Xenith
Back from a nice weekend in Cornwall and looking forward to breaking the paints out. Just that Broodlord to finish then maybe onto the assautl squad. In addition to my goal of finishing the 4th company, I have a stretch goal, as it were, of finishing painting the models in a 40K starter set before the next edition of the game is released. Not managed it since 3rd ed. I still have Assault on Black Reach models unpainted... Majkhel 1 Back to top
Xenith
Been making some rapid progress on the assault squad once I got the Broodlord out of the way. Sorry for awful pics: The heads are straight Guilliman over wraithbone, eyes rehighlighted wraithbone then a direct guilliman recess shade, with a touch of magos purple. The 100 marine company goal draws closer! Edited August 24, 2020 by Xenith Blindhamster, Spyros and Xenophon40k 3 Back to top
Xenith
Bit more work on these guys, and starting the big rumbly project: Reds, blacks and grey base colours done, just the detail to go. Land Raider in progress: And a I had some work in Nottingham at the start of the week, I dropped by WHW and picked up some stuff. These were the only model-related things, but I also picked up the Realm of Chaos: The Lost and the Damned book, as it has all the original detail of the best god, Tzeentch, and all the fluff on the Emperor also. Majkhel
Some nice projects going on on your desk. Which Land Raider variant will you make? Or will you try magnetizing it for every option?
Xenith
Some nice projects going on on your desk. Which Land Raider variant will you make? Or will you try magnetizing it for every option? This is going to be a Land Raider Excelsior, with the FW extra armour kit. It'll mean some of the Excelsior specific panels dont quite fit, but it's going to be a hell of an up-armoured command-brick, and some bling for another land raider. Blindhamster
the new contrasts really can do some great things, faces look cool! Xenith 1 Back to top
Xenith
the new contrasts really can do some great things, faces look cool! Thanks! I've pretty much switched over to them for certain things, like glazing gems to get a nice blend on the reflections, and purity seals, etc, anything that once needed a full wash gets the contrast treatment. Stuff that needs recess shading only is painted the traditional way. Midget-marine gets a thing to stand on. I have no idea how these sculpts were approved... Progress on the Eviscerators - I cut them down and removed the obvious chainswordpower supply from the initial versions, reasoning this would be hidden inside the chamber, I much prefer this sleeker version...should have really made identical ones, but hey, 10k years of warfare across an uncaring galaxy you end up with mismatching gear. And the magentised Vanguard Veteran - He'll probably go in the second squad who are also magnetised (mostly) taking them up to 7 members. I made the dual chainsword option as it was effective in 8th, and will probably be even more so in 9th, with a single VanVet getting 6A on the charge at -2AP in T3... Xenith
After a bit of sanding, fiddling and hairdrying, i got the side panels on the Command Raider Then it's really all downhill from there - sponsons go on the front like they should, and I've magnetised the antennae and aquila aegis field for ease of transport. Xenith
Very nice work on those side armour panels. Thanks, though they're just the standard FW kit that I've jammed the Excelsior bits into
Xenith
Been a while since I've updated, but the assault squad just need highlights, basing, then sticking together and they're done. Van vet is highlighted and ready for basing. Just the equivalent of a full tactical squad to go and then the company is done! Xenith
Bit more work done on the assault squad: With some heads: And the vanguard Veteran: I forgot to give this guy a Crux Terminatus shoulderpad so I gave him the 1st company icon instead. Bjorn Firewalker
The Vanguard Vet is beautifully painted. How will you decorate his base?
Xenith
Thanks Bjorn! They'll all get the same base treatment as the rest of the army: Namely Stirland battlemire with successive drybrushes of mournfang, XV-88, and Rakarth Flesh. Xenith
Bit more of an update as I got these guys assembled properly yesterday: Close up of the face on this guy. That's wraithbone base, heavy coat of guilliman flesh, touch up eyes with wraithbone, shade under-eyes with magos purple. Looking at this, I realised I need to do the teeth! Those will be wraithbone again, pure white would stand out too much, the off-white is ace for things like eyes and teeth. They still need basing, and then weathering. I'm thinking Blood for the Blood God will show up well on those yellow eviscerators. THOSE EVICERATORS! Haha, thanks both, I think I'd been thinking about DOOM Eternal quite a bit when I was doing this unit...alternatively, CHAINSAWS are always awesome. On another DOOM note, I forgot to share some of the scripture on these guys: I'm always open to suggestions for new 'devotional' text - I need something for the Chainsword on the Space-Wolf-head guy and some shoulder pads. I can't keep writing BAAL; BLooD; KILL, all the time. Edited September 19, 2020 by Xenith Spyros and Majkhel 2 Back to top
Xenith
I managed to get some decent hobby time in over the last couple of days, and can finally say I've finished assembling my Land Raider Excelsior. It's still in sub-assemblied for ease of painting, but you get the gist: The captain got some more BA-Appropriate components And a classic "Drive me closer" sword to go with the combi plasma. Sponson detailing: The gunner in the front cupola will be manning the multimelta, which they can take as of 8th edition. The only one I had was my hard to assemble original crusader one, but I think it's awesome enough to work on this model. We'll see if the glue holds, might have to go back and pin it all together. This monster still needs a name. My favourite 40k tank name ever is "Fortress of Arrogance", Commissar Yarricks command Baneblade I might steal that, or go with something similar. Anyone have any cool synonyms for arrogance/ego? So far I've got: Bastion of Ruination Bastion of Pride Indomitable Superlative Executioner Bulwark Thanks for looking!
