<Man, I really am getting sucked into this 30K thing>

I'm loving your yellow and would be very interested also in finding out how you do that. It's definitely yellow, but not glaringly so. I prefer soft contrasts in colors and yours really works. Also, I need to commend you on your camo. It works brilliantly with the yellow and I can see adopting it for my vehicles.

Wonderful army, please do continue.

Cheers,

okay another update!

I put in some work last night and wanted to share where we are at.

In the first picture I added the turret that was painted separate but at the same time as the hull of the MBT, due to the weathering process they dont even look like the same paint was used!!!

Here I am starting to bring out the shell impacts but still a lot to do here.

gallery_63665_8309_577376.jpg

I have to throw out a disclaimer at this point. I am painting this model using the Forge World model masterclass to paint this tank and I have to say that without pointers from that book this mini would not look this way, in fact it would have ended up a yellow and black tank. as it is I have to say that i am happy with the theme of this tank and it has had my imagination going crazy as I think of a foe strong enough to compel Astartes to apply any kind of camo pattern to a tank, maybe regular humans manned the machine? who knows????? (Well I do but that story will not be told here)

Okay back on topic. The other thing i did here was to ensure I had all the appropriate materials that the techniques called, this is new for me as I just tend to make do with what I have, i also applied allot of patience throughout the entire process and though it still has a long way to go I am very happy with how it is coming together!

Absolutely mental.

Thanks Brother, glad you like what you see here!

The best looking Sicaran Ive seen so far. Its a great scheme. Keep on going with this.

One more thing there is nothing wrong with Astartes using Camo!

Thank you Yak, considering I am a fan/lurker on your raptor thread this is a massive compliment!

Oh and more camo to come

Love that idea.

Glad you like it M2C, I only hope it gives you a smidgen of the inspiration you guys over at the In Memoriam: The Day The Palace Fell thread have given me!

Oh, it most certainly does. I really, really like the idea of the Heraldry and such are 'added' onto equipment as the legions find their primarchs. I've always imagined the first generation of Legionaries were more 'tactical' than the legions by the time of the Horus Heresy. In my mind, things like wearing tabards and pturges would've been inherited from the cultures the legions absorbed. Its one of the reasons I chose to do the Mark III ablative plating in yellow, and keep the rest dark metallic ceramite. I love that you've blended that feel and unintentionally inspired the Sicaran Platoon I plan on including. I will probably be using a monochrome urban scheme with only the oddest bits of yellow here and there.

Ahh the early legions! I am in 2 minds about what the early times looked like.....

1). (more the official line) Copied thunder warrior (TW) tactics, which in my mind would work well with a whole legion but not in the early days with too few Astartes to actually make full use of there potential and given Astartes performance in MK I armor compared to TW they would have had a tough time keeping up! Now later on and with the advancements in armor I think that they would have out performed the TW given more men and better equipment.

2). They used almost guerrilla tactics (unarmored), given that they greatly out perform a regular human in all aspects and even taking onto account their huge forms they would make the best irregular warfare specialists, their vision and hearing alone would be a massive and decisive advantage. Able to carry heavy weapons like a regular man could carry a carbine, less noisy, more tactically attuned for longer I see these early Astartes like partisans on crack! They would leverage any and all advantages that life had to offer and living in the time of the TW even for an Astartes they would have felt like mere humans do to an Astartes! These early men were the bedrock that entire legions were built upon. And I think that legion traits though related to their individual Primarks also has roots in the early Astartes experiences.

Okay enough philosophic rants and down to the pictures! I have to admit I do not have the regular dump of pics but the 2 i have to show are important in the Battle8rother world!

As you can see it is in the first stages of the camo process BUT it has begun!

I think it's a very unique pattern and ties in nicely with the armor. Camo is so underused on Marines. It doesn't always fit the setting, but on Recon specialists it's clearly appropriate.

That was my thought going into painting these guys. The are too loud for close in work but I don't see them snooping and pooping too close to the bad guys anyway.

I agree with Darth it's a unique scheme and really ties them in with the camo on the vehicles as well.

I do not want to crowd the Horus Heresy and WIP log threads down so I plan to put up a thread in the Hall of Honor with my finished minis and create a history of the force I am building, from the Crusade to the Iron Cage, the camo work will be from a particularly tough campaign from the Crusade and you will see other periods in my force with my interpretation on them. All with period appropriate fluff in regards to the cannon and how that effected my Astartes!

The framework will be shamelessly stolen from the inspirational work of the lads in the +++In Memoriam: The Day the Palace Fell+++  thread.

Little late to the thread for this one ...  but I really like the shell impacts on your Sicaran :)

Just completed building mine this weekend, may I recommend soaking the two main barrels in some hot-tap water for a minute and then gently straightening them (you can run them under the cold to 'freeze' them in place when you're happy).

Liking the Recon marines.  The camo reminds me of the rare trial USA T-Pattern urban camo (a broader version of it of course).

The Recon Squad is coming along nicely.

Thank you both!

Thank you infyrana! I will get those barrels straightened up ASAP! I didn't know what T-Pattern urban camo was but a quick google and I was able to find it, been a Marine I should know this.................... off to the sand pit with me then! I do have to say that you are either well versed in all things camo or the USMC or maybe both. This may also be a little insight to your youth!

So what other kinds of tips are in the forge world model master class?

I can't wait to see some more of those breachers, I need to see how they construct before I start hacking mine up.

As far as tips go when I post an update on the breecher I will explain some of what I was using and go over assembly

I really like the camo scheme, it's close to modern camo for it to work on a realism scale whilst being simple enough to do on other models... Really nice work brother smile.png

Cheers Russ mate! I kind of arrived at the scheme quite by accident but I really like it. Gives me tons of ammo fluff wise, it will be a campaign on the ash waste world of [create appropriately named world]. It will be a tough campaign and all survivors will keep the camo theme in form or fashion.

Slightly off topic sorry! ...Sadly no, but I do have the utmost respect for those who do do their service however!  Despite my interests, my youth led me on a different path, so now I'm more of an enthusiast who enjoys learning about medieval and modern military history and equipment.  I guess it would be fair to say I've done a lot of reading about the USMC over the years, neural networks are fascinating things and lead people like myself in so many different directions :)

Back on topic, how much of your force will be done using camo ?

To answer your question.

I will use the camo as a tiny thread that ties the force together, I want them to look like Imperial Fists but with my spin on them! so you are looking at maybe 1 to 10 per 20 man squad.

Update time!
