Today in the hobby I....

It's a very distinct color scheme. I do like it. May I ask how you did your white?

Thanks, and I'll let my wife know, she came up with it :)

It's actually a light gray but usually comes out white in photos. The recipe is pretty straightforward but time consuming because I do a recess wash and then two highlights.

Base coat: Vallejo Sky Grey 70.989

Recess wash: Secret Weapon Miniatures Concrete

1st Highlight: Vallejo Silvergrey 70.883

2nd Highlight: Vallejo White 70.951

Today in the Hobby, I did two things at the same time.

I did the base colours for the first part of my Fourth Vow for the ETL;

…And I also did the first part of a fancy custom base (also pictured above) that is inevitably going to lead to me buying lots of greenstuff and rebasing everything I own.

TITHI had to order my greenstuff to be delivered to the store for next week at the earliest, so it's highly likely my ETL vow won't be finished in time. On the bright side, I've got plenty of time to game on Battlefleet Gothic and Blood Bowl until then!

TITH I finally shelved trying to take my painting places I'm not ready to take it yet.

That and I basically wrote an article on how we ended up with Primaris and the direction 40k is probably taking.

TITH, or yesterday I guess, I worked up almost everything on my ETL vow which is also a little testbed for a new army.... that started with having a few too many kill team core sets.

Anyway, got the Voidclades mostly done. Just need to dot some eyes, finish the Horisian medallion, and.... figure out how to add more support elements for what amounts to a drop army.

There may be a few more than that all told, though.

I decided to take it easy today and do some simple painting instead of pushing for some high end standard. I think I got some zeal into my pallet though...

And yes, I'll finish him tonight, I just had to take a break to go do that pesky "work" thing.

TITH, I locked in getting a 'Nids KT next week, and decided on a couple themes for the Specialists. Names created from the perspective of terrorized Hive Gangers and civilians. In short:

Veteran - Hormagaunt "The Hunter" - Hormagaunt has standard Hive Fleet coloration, with chips out of its blades and crest, as well as one missing eye. Hormagaunt has been hunted numerous times, and has never once fallen.

Combat - Hormagaunt "White Menace" - Hormagaunt has albino coloration (white/blue, not white/red like you'd think, to match real-life arthropod instances of albinism) and highly aggressive tendencies toward other species, even more so than its brethren.

Scout - Hormagaunt "Sightless Sound" - Hormagaunt was blinded in some unknown incident, standard Hive Fleet colors; Hormagaunt can echolocate, and is known for stealth tactics as well as swift movement.

I am really happy with how these came out for my DIY primaris, not SoH :whistling: . Intercessor Sarge and a regular intercessor test scheme I am happy with.

This will be a slow burn, one box at a time, start to end to a 2k army. After my ETL vow is done, I am working on these for a while. No pile of shame this time!

Been a while since I posted some actual hooby progress, so let's go with my latest test model: a weathering test using no metallic paints for the chipping.

The chips are pretty alright but I think I'll stick to using a brush over sponge for the primer chips (aka brown chips).

Yellow needs shading still but this feels like a good start for what I want.

TITH, I purchased a Finecast Lictor and a pack of Hormagaunts brand-new from my FLGS. My boi Tony (who, as a counterpoint, is That Guy who Ignores Errata) up and gave me his old-school Broodlord, without me asking. So I have 200 points of 'Nids. I'm painting them up in Kraken colors, then adding some kinda splinter fleet markings; I can paint all but one, who is getting an albino sort of paint scheme later on when I get some white Contrast and pale blue.

Well, that was nice of him. Which changes me original thought of "hit him with the rulebook" in response to your thread about how to deal with him

Anyways, TITHI started working on my Knight for my ETL Vow. Gonna try and get more of it done before I get some sleep in, since I've got at least three and a half hours until then
