Yeah. I always felt the same when I first started Space Marines 20+ years ago.

I think Black Legion might be winning me over. I like that they are a blank canvas. My warband could be zealots or just using Chaos as a tool. Into using tanks or Daemon Engines or both. Made from stolen geneseed or defected from the Imperium. I like that.

I think the Black Legion is a great choice as well - and the Eye of Horus symbol is also one of the coolest traitor icons. I'm assuming you've already read AD-B's Black Legion books? I think they work really well for dispelling the myth the BL are "generic" Chaos Marines. We'll never see the last book of course, but the two first are some of the best 40K fiction out there, imo.

My Word Bearers leader is actually borderline BL, in that he has sworn allegiance to Abaddon, partly because that was just the story that grew out of the games/writing I did, partly so I can slap the Eye of Horus on stuff :)

The Eye of Horus is a pretty cool symbol, and it is very prevalent on the kits.

I did read those books. I loved them. It is a shame book 3 will never be seen (I would love to be proven wrong but I just feel if it was coming out it would have been releases by now).

Built a Vindicator today. I would not be surprised if it went to Legends for 11th but I just really like the model.

I think Black Legion are winning me over a little bit more each day.

Yeah, it'll be a big surprise if it comes out - a pleasant surprise, but definitely a surprise. I thikn you should absolutely go for Black Legion if those are the ones you're into the most. They are reasonably easy to paint as well, because the trims can save you a lot of highlighting on the black armour, which can be tricky otherwise.

The Vindicator is a great kit and concept. If it goes to Legends I'll just continue using it anyway.

TITHI started ANOTHER madcap project; I have gotten a Land Speeder Vengeance in with the intent of making it into a modernized Grav-Attack Tank (AKA the RT deodorant tank). Started designing the turret in Blender ready for printing. Very WIP of course (canvas barrel shroud needs work and the turret itself needs a lot more detailing) but it's already looking recognizably turret-shaped. Also decided to ape the Zoid part that was purloined for the official conversion rather than try for a modern lascannon; the fluff for this will be it's a very rare, forgotten pattern of vehicle with unusual (and somewhat unreliable) weaponry.

And for some fluff:

Spoiler

"The Buccaneer Grav-Attack Tank is a seldom seen piece of technology in the 41st Millennium. Whilst once fairly common amongst Astartes forces during the Great Crusade, it always suffered as a halfway-house between a Land Speeder and a Predator, lacking the protection and firepower of the latter but not having quite the full mobility of the former, and was swiftly made redundant. That said, it was well-liked by its crews for being shockingly hardy and easy to repair for a skimmer, and was one of the few vehicles that was ever fitted with the Longinus-pattern las-javelin; an overdriven lascannon prized for incredible armour piercing capability even at long range, albeit at the cost of increased power consumption and reduced barrel lifespan. Unlike many techno-relics from the Crusade, the Buccaneer can still be manufactured as the STC still exists; however, very few Chapters have use for it, and the STC for the Longinus las-javelin was lost alongside many countless other priceless treasures in the Vogler's World Conflict. Two Chapters that do still employ the Buccaneers are the Death Crusaders, who are in possession of one of the last las-javelin equipped examples remaining, and the Tarantulas, who find the relatively small grav-tank well-suited to their style of warfare."

Didn't realize the Scimitar already existed...Whoops!

@Antarius There is something very satisfying about it isn't there.

Yeah Black Legion is the way to go. Especially as I'm very much in a 'LET THE GALAXY BURN' mood after seeing my family's gravestone vandalized.

Primed an Assault Druht Leader (what I’m calling these BC models). Greymanes cannot afford to waste their initiates in ‘meat’ assaults just to teach them patience, so Blood Claws aren’t really a thing. Instead, they send the initiates to the 4th Fyrd, the Scaich, where they learn the ways of the Vanguard.

With rumours of Predator and Vindicator going to Legends I'm definitely going to add another of each to my fledging Black Legion army. I love the look and feel of them and updates for Chaos maybe years away or never happening.

YITHI assembled my first 40k model in nearly a year. Colloborating with my brother on a Badab War project, aiming for a rough mix of Lamenters/Astral Claws for the secessionists, and Charcarodons/Red Scorpions/Star Phantoms for the loyalists.

Did initially try to pose a spare set of Mk II arms and bolter with the Tortuga body, but unfortunately it wasn't wide enough, so Primaris intercessor arms came to the rescue. It's probably an experimental bolter pattern is my justification for it.

Picked up two copies of the combat patrol mag with ork boyz - gonna make one in to a normal squad, and hack up the others to make my Wrecka Krew kill team into a squad of tank busters and a squad of wreckers.

These are the first models for my ork army in preparation for 11th, so all about figuring out the colour scheme, though I also want to work how best to add armour plates to the shoulders of the bare ones.

YITHI started work on the Buccaneer Grav-Tank (having successfully printed the turret). It fits perfectly in the kit's turret ring, which is nice! Enclosing the cockpit is going to be fun (covering over the "stained glass" portion was annoying enough and that at least had a solid structure to build onto!) but it should be worth it.

Damn, you beat me to it. I would have started on mine if I didn't jam a craft knife blade under my thumbnail nearly 2 weeks ago. Well done. Mine has a Mars Pattern Predator turret and a las-talon as the main gun.

Have been kit bashing Praetors lately. Quite proud how these have turned out.

That lion pelt goes really well on him. Superb stuff!

TITHI dug out a McFarlane Space Marine I had started painting ages ago and then forgotten about, and seeing as the half-done paint was in a bit of a sorry state, I decided to start over and take the opportunity to de-Primaris him. This consisted of dremelling a lot of material off (no easy task with the fairly weak Dremel Stylo) and replacing the head and gun with a 3D printed Mk. 7 helmet and boltgun respectively, printed in TH-BJD. The magazine (which failed) is being printed along with a new Mk. 7 backpack. He needs some more work doing on him before paint, notably sanding the rough spots, sculpting some extra detail (notably the waist cables), adding a smattering of doodads to his armour and filling some gaps. Only Primaris detail I probably won't remove is the separate shin plates, as A: it'd be a lot of work and B: I actually don't mind them.

Not sure if I'll keep the Imperialis or give him a more plain chest. Probably gonna leave it on though.

Last night in the hobby,...

I resisted the urge to doomscroll and instead I pulled out some of the nids I had started working on probably a year or more ago and carried on with them. I am hoping to go back to where I was earlier last year and actually be working on models rather than adding more and more to the project piles.

Today in the hobby... spreadsheets! I plan to loosely plan out what models I have and what I might work on (as much to organise and motivate as to also check and plan for paints needed)
