since my last update in the hobby...

I have built:
20 boyz

5 terminators

5 assault intercessors

I am also mid way through 3 blade guard

I've primed 10 or the orks, plus an already built warboss in mega armour - these will be for me to remind myself how I paint orks ready for the rest of armageddon

When I picked up Armageddon I tripped and picked up some colour forge sprays so have tested those on the terminators and Assault intercessors - really nice colour and coverage though I missed a few recesses. What is most annoying is in my excitement/haste I forgot about the helmet colours for BA being different so these are currently red too/glued so I will have a fun time trying to repaint them without messing up the base coat on the rest of the model.

The plan is a 500 ish point BA force using models I already have as a starting point.
Captain (Armageddon)

Terminators (Leviathan)

Assault Intercessors (Indomitus)

Blade Guard (Indomitus)

I'm tempted to swap the captain out for the store anniversary captain with powerfist but it also appeals to me that this force is a bit of everything various 'big' boxes (trying to decide what to include from Dark imperium later out of what I have unbuilt)

My son has been running a D&D group for about two years now and I've been feeding them every week for those two years, as well as giving them a place to play not only D&D but Battletech and of course Warhammer 40,000. Tonight, one of my son's friends gave me the Space Marine half of Armageddon as a thanks for the place and food and good memories. So that's what I did in the hobby today: accepted an amazing gift.

I learned that damaged goods from the web store are "a part of the standard Hobby work required to build the kit" according to a reply I got from Games Workshop's customer support.

Bit of an update, after a week of back and forth emails I managed to get the damaged Land Speeder replaced. The rest of the damaged Marine bits weren't as severe and it's just a couple of nicks and dents. Just my luck that the stuff I really wanted got damaged while the Orks I probably won't ever get around to building arrived in perfect condition.

I think my next project might have to be to "Firstborn-ify" the new VanVets from the Armageddon box, along with the Chaplain (clip off the leg thrusters, swap out firstborn guns and heads, add firstborn jump packs). Slightly apprehensive, but I have a few weeks before I can get started, so gives me time to plan.

How did you find out?

The guy who bought it for me was talking yesterday to some of the other 40k hobbyists at the shop about all the stuff he bought from Chinese recasters.

He talked about the quality, issues, price and then all the stuff he got on the cheap... that list included a Custodes Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought.

Which is what he got me.

TITHI have made a start on de-Primarising the Armageddon Space Marines. So far I've just done the Sergeant and grenadier, but I'm already liking the results.

SpaceMarinesArmageddonDePrimarisedForBC.thumb.jpg.2f13c3b244196e084e94263d210adb23.jpg

Both Marines had their knee flanges removed, ankles trimmed and backpacks replaced with 3D printed parts. The Sergeant's head is the Mk. VII from the set, the grenadier has a printed nogging. The Sergeant meanwhile has a printed boltgun whilst the grenadier's weapon is a Mk. VI boltgun with the grenade launcher from the boxset carefully sawn off and grafted to the side. You could absolutely do these conversions without 3D printing, for what it's worth, as long as you have suitable heads, backpacks and bolters to use. I'd just printed a lot of parts beforehand so I thought I might as well use them!

I'm very happy with how they're looking, but I'm not sure whether to remove the Sarge's gorget. The basic Marines will be de-gorgeted but I think it sort of works for the Sergeant, mostly because of the tradition of Mk. 8 armour for Sergeants.

Keep the gorget. When I saw the Sergeant from this box and the one from introductory set I just thought they looked perfect. I might keep ankle things on only one side of the leg armour (inside or outside, not decided yet) to represent a more complete Mark VIII suit. Still mulling over what to do with my all my parts.

By the end of today in the hobby I will have (hopefully)...

- Fully painted to Battle ready 3x Dreadknights and 2x Grand Masters in Dreadknights
- At least finished the armour and most metals on 10x purifiers, Crowe and 5 man strike squad

Then will only have a few wee bits and the basing to finish tomorrow night before the Edinburgh Super Major on Saturday.

Today my untreated ADD kicked in and I got to the Amazon.com checkout with Imperial Knights.

Apparently, I like skew armies, where I am vastly outnumbered.

In unrelated news, I bought Zulu on DVD for a dollar.

Sunday in the hobby....
I started painting some of the orks I have primed.
I also did a few block bits on the test BA assault intercessor

I managed to resist buying a baneblade for now (in part due to stock issues!... and ideally I need some other bits for my guard force first...)

...I might have bought a Stompa...

TITHI made more progress on de-Primarising the Armageddon box Space Marines, and built these four chaps, bringing the Intercessor Tactical squad up to 6 members so far!

I think that kind of project would drive me insane, but I respect the dedication. :)

Looking good. Once you get the hang of it sorting out all the Primaris details starts feeling effortless. I recently sat down to cut off all the leg ball joints on 30 models I had from various box sets and it took less than 40 minutes.

Good thing I went mad a long time ago! As @MoriyaSchism said it's actually not that difficult, at least assuming you have the parts to hand (I do, and also can always print extras if necessary). I'm not going full rivet-counter and removing every single Primaris detail from them, but just removing the knee flanges, ankle bulbs and gorgets, and replacing the heads, guns and backpacks makes a massive difference. I've actually found the backpacks and bolters from the old 3-piece push-fit Tacticals work well; the boltguns only work for two-handed poses of course, but they do work, and the backpacks are a piece of the proverbial to attach. The trickiest bit is going to be cleaning up the necks to add a smaller Mk.7 style mini-gorget (you know the thing) but that will still be fairly straightforward.

I was originally going to print or buy some Mk.7 jump packs for the Vanguard Veterans but found some very cheap MK.2 ones on eBay, and between the price and how much I like them (really nice callback to the old RT jump packs) they'll be getting those.

I just find it amusing that for years people cut apart space marines kits to make true-scale space marines, when GW finaly gave them true-scale space marines, then people cut them up to make a specific era of space marine. No disrespect because I like the aesthetic and you've done a fantastic job, but I do find it rather funny.

If I could be bothered I would ideally be able to scale up the existing armour marks and use them alongside mkX armour, because I like the influence that mk4 and mk8 armour had on a lot of mkX design.  Sadly I bought some mk4 tacticals so that I could lean into this, but they look like garden gnomes compared to the new guys.

If it's any consolation, if you or a friend has access to a printer then there are STLs out there for longer legs for modular Marines and they make a huge difference. Like, an otherwise stock Tactical with the extended legs looks great next to modern models, especially at tabletop distance.

Also that is a really nice looking army!

Thank you. I do have a friend with a resin printer. It's a problem from future me, though. I have more than enough painting projects to worry about currently.

I think I've posted photos of some of these models before but I don't think I specifically created a plog for them.
