I tend to just skip anything Sisters related when Slaanesh gets involved, just easier for everyone that way. Even if you can respect the quality of the work a piece is more than the skill at which it was created.

Off the top of my head I can think of two pices of fluff where Sisters and Slaanesh were a major point in the story.  The graphic series "Daemonifuge" and Dan Abnett's "The Invitation."  There was nothing sensual about either of those.

That first image...she's not wearing power armor, so she's not a Sister. <3

I really, really, really do not want this particular thread to devolve into a discussion about Sisters and Slaanesh. (I say that and then I can't help myself.) Suffice it to say, the Sisters are a singular, mostly respectful representation of women in the 40k genre. Full (realistic) armor, motivated and dangerous warriors, they're really quite cool. One can make the case that they're still host to some (serious) representational issues, e.g. the Ms. vs. Mr. Pac*man* /Male is the Norm trope, but Sisters are still a step in the right direction. They are their own army and the only non-Astartes force that brings legit Power Armor and Bolt weapons to the party, both of which are canonical Imperium in my mind.

Slaanesh doesn't necessarily equate with sexualization, but when applied in fanfic and fan-art in practice - especially with regard to Sisters - I've found that it often does. Best case, it's easy and it's trite. Worst case, it's overtly oppressive. It really grinds my gears. :\

That said, her face was quite skillfully done, and the outfit wasn't that offensive; it's just obviously not a Sister, because power armor has an upper chestplate to go with those pauldrons. <3

Internet's gonna Internet, for good or ill...

It'd help a lot if GW added some high profile victories for the Sisterhood in the official time line, rather than being the whipping girls along with the Guard whenever GW wants to make someone look "cool" or whatever. It's more than overdue and should improve how the army is popularly perceived.

Well, my most recent image I can't help but imagine that the next moment is the Sister grabbing the Chaplet, deploying its hidden blade and twisting around her broken hips to bury it in the EC's neck from where she lays.

Then she dies, but she dies smiling despite the pain because at least she killed one last heretic.

As I said once, credit where it's due. GW did a good job (I might even say respectful) with sisters.

wow, I really liked that colored in version if the well-known black/white drawing. Great find, knight!

The Adepta Sororitas digital codex might have an official version of this drawing. From my understanding, 6th edition codices feature colored versions of pictures previously published in black and white.

Problem with Emperor's Children is they'd enjoy whatever happens next, including getting killed.

More pictures;

The serenity after a won battle.

You don't need to be a Howling Banshee exarch to take names and chew bubblegum with two power swords.

With the red(ish) hair and the snarl on her face, the is almost exactly how I imagined Saffron Sera (eventual Canoness of my DIY Sisters army)! :blink.:

The armour colour is different though (obviously :laugh.: )

Awesome! :wub.:

Extra heretical indeed.

I did write a fanfic fragment once of a couple of Guardsmen breaking into a convent to record the sapphic exploits of the Adepta Sororitas, and think they'd struck gold when they overheard a conversation, only for the 'illicit activity' the Sister was seeking to repent for was a little too much zeal at playing chess.

The Black Library surely awaits... :P Though I heard the competitions they ran weren't exactly an open race so maybe not?

Out of interest does anyone know how GW sets about getting new artwork? Thanks to the Internet there's plenty of talented people out there to be found easily enough, though knowing GW they don't take advantage of it. I want to see some new official Sisters artwork as we hardly get anything.

I'm pretty sure they just commission it, though the may do occasional portfolio submissions when they want new blood in their artwork. http://ukitakumuki.deviantart.com/ has been doing most of the recent codex/supplement covers.

I'm still surprised sisters even have spare time.

Ah, A6A7. I love his Flavia pictures. Such as...

Wait, no, wrong one.

Much better.

It's because it's near impossible to tell when a Sister is in her free time, because all free time means to a Sister is that they get to choose how they practice their devotion.

I like the idea that a Sisters' free time is used to determine her special training, so a Sister who spends her free time playing Chess might be nudged towards the command track, while a Sister who spends it at the firing range might be shifted towards the Retributor corps, and one who meditates might be suggested for the Seraphim.

D'aww, that first one is just adorable.

And the cheerleaders carry the simulacrum. :laugh.:

As a note, The Sapphic Exploits of the Adepta Sororitas sounds like a best-seller among the imperial guard. Right after Ciaphas Cain's Fifty Shades of Black, or the secrets of the Order of the Ebon Chalice.

hmmm for some reason I can't seem to get the quote to work. I push the quote button and it sends me to the quick reply but the quote doesn't show up. Oh well

I think the colored pic in Knights of Raven post #276 is awesome. It was one of the pictures that got me to like the faction. Sexy tough but not in any outlandish way. I even like the artwork for Repentia(bought a pack of them with my order last week) they're kinda crazy scary. hehe

Then you'll love these colorizations by the same deviantARTist;

Edited by Knight of the Raven

The first, second and fourth pictures I saw first time when I bought the witch hunters codex years ago. That's the picture I first saw the Repentia squad and thought "Yeah I'd rather go up against Orks or Chaos then these women". I'm upset that the Inquisition is separate from the Sisters now. :(

I'm not.

Seriously, though, the relationship between the Sisterhood and the Witch Hunters hasn't changed. You just have to get a second codex-fragment to include the Inquisitors in your army now, which is fine. The Inquisition deserved their own book rather than being shoe-horned into ours with a slew of exceptions to let you field allies other than the Sisters with them.
