Naminé
Kawaii sisters :p That sculpture was amazing but the heels annoy me! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275100-the-art-of-sisters/page/18/#findComment-3809108 Share on other sites
Willy Pete
The sculptor does say that they used a Dark Eldar wych body as a base. And of course, there is the famous John Blanche cover from the second edition codex. But I agree, heels are about the worst foot gear imaginable for combat. I think I would rather go barefoot.:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275100-the-art-of-sisters/page/18/#findComment-3809214 Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
I didn't even notice the heels, I thought her foot was raised and it was a shadow. >< If they used a wych... there is a wych torso which looks exactly like the Sisters torso, sans studs. >< So.. Sigh. Maybe the next sculpts of Sisters will look like they're actually wearing power armour. I mean, it wouldn't need much of a change. Increase the model size by about 3% but leave the head as it is. tvih
At least it still looks like armor of some sort at least! And looks pretty damn good at that, even if not quite as protective-looking as Astartes armor. If we ever got plastic models, I'd be a sad panda if the armor looked much different from now, as I love the current look. Then again with my recent acquisitions in mind by the time plastic Sisters arrive, if they ever do, I won't even be in need of any more Sisters models. Frankly I'm likely to get the last major ones I need before the end of the year As for that CoolMiniOrNot sculpt, not really a fan. It's not bad, but there's something that seems off on the whole. Ullr Direfang
Well as far a the heels and such, I like them. Just makes me feel like they are that much more of a bad ass lady for wearing them while fighting. Same goes for the feminine armor. I think I would like the SoB less if they had bulkier armor that didn't play to their lady side. Maybe it is just me, but I am into that kind of thing, even if it is a little anime or what ever. But I agree about the model. Something seems off with it. It is a pretty awesome model still but it isn't something I would try to buy if I had the chance. *Furyou Miko
I don't object to the aesthetic of the Sisters. I object to the fact that it is repeatedly depicted, by virtue of the head to body scale, as being less than a centimetre thick. It's drawn as an armoured bodyglove instead of being drawn like power armour, and its all because of the stupid heroic scaling of the original models - if you look at the helmeted Sisters, with the size of the helmet compared to the body (note: the heads are the same size as the helmets!), it becomes a lot more reasonable as power armour... but because of rule of sexy, none of the artists GW has employed have taken this approach. incinerator950
That goes for all of 40k though. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275100-the-art-of-sisters/page/18/#findComment-3809994 Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
To some extent, yes... so why do people focus on the Sisters when talking about how their armour couldn't possibly be, say, as good as a Space Marine's? Templar1
Actually I wouldn't classify the Sisters' armor as falling under "the rule of sexy". It actually seems to fit gothic armor aesthetic and european medieval themses with futuristic stuff (ie... rest of 40k). I think they just made it look that way to keep with the aesthetic. Now the Repentia, on the other hand.... bleh. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275100-the-art-of-sisters/page/18/#findComment-3810188 Share on other sites
*Furyou Miko
Clearly, I'm the only one who has run into this issue. >< By invoking Rule of Sexy, I mean that people take the gothic, knightly look of the Sisters and twist it slightly to fetishize and sexualise it. Armoured plackarts becomes corsets, for example, in the eyes of many, due to a slight similarity and appearance and the appearance of hugging the body tightly. CaptainHelion
This is something I have run into. The rule of sexy just seems to take the concept of form fitting gothic plate, and using it as an excuse for stretchy vinyl 3+ save body gloves. Ullr Direfang
See, I always thought of it as the Space Marines being modified so their armor represents how their body has changed. They are bigger and stronger then normal humans, so their armor represents their bodies better. Where the sisters are in all senses, still normal women, so their armor reflects their form. To me, it is the same material, just since the SoB are smaller beings theirs looks less bulky. Never really looked at it from a well it is a super armor body glove. I can see why people think the way they do, but it is years in the future, people can't accept that? *Furyou Miko
No, they can't, seemingly. Mostly it comes up in order to try and put us in our place compared to Space Marines. You know, just in case we get a bit uppity and start thinking we can do our job of policing rogue chapters. vonny
yea, Miko. Those guys will continue to project their insecurities everywhere, and if sisters just happen to catch their eye, that'll do. If not, it'll be "my chapter beats up your chapter" or the always funny "my primarch beats up your primarch". don't try and argue with them. You'll have to lower yourself to their level of stupidity and they'll beat you with experience. Marshal Mattias
Just sigh and explain that you would be happy to agree with them, but then you'd both be wrong :( That usually gives you a couple of seconds to flounce out dramatically before they work it out. Jacinda
If not, it'll be "my chapter beats up your chapter" or the always funny "my primarch beats up your primarch".I remember a boy from school a long time ago who told me his dad could beat up my dad. We never could settle on a price, tho, so the deal fell through. *Furyou Miko
There's just something about that picture that doesn't sit right with me. The proportions are off, I think. Jacinda
Her left cuisse looks like it is standing vertical instead of angled with her thigh. It really throws off the perspective. Add that to the other proportion problems (torso is a little short, arms are too large, etc) it all comes to look a little dwarf-ish. I like the face and her hair a lot. The artist has some skill. A little more experience is all they need. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/275100-the-art-of-sisters/page/18/#findComment-3810698 Share on other sites
tvih
It's a decent picture for sure, but to me a Sister immediately seems a bit "off" with those kind of shoulder pads.
