Brother Heinrich you make one heck of a Night Lord army, I really want to see this thread grow and your army to terrorize the Imperium! In Midnight Clad brother.

P.S I really love Vadrek so far and that Rhino looks stunning

I love it heinrich my only thing would be please oh please crack open that torso for a bit of gore

:smile.:

I wholeheartedly agree with Jaspcat.  A little battle damage to his armor would be just the thing.  I think that Sgt. Vadrek is perfect just as he is.  Would you mind telling me what kit his boots come from?

Very well, crack open his armor I shall. Wait till you guys see 2nd Claw's Rhino, my wife asked me if she should worry about me becoming a serial killer lol.

Thanks, thats the plan brother, we will make the Imperium listen.

Your army is looking good! Can't wait to see you add some battle damage! :smile.:

And some Gore to that Rhino!

Thanks! I tried out some weathering earlier on a test model and the result was pretty meh. It's hard to make chipping show up on midnight blue armor, plus I feel like it just takes away from the lightning. I'll probably just weather everything like I did my World Eaters to make them look all dusty from campaign. I don't want to risk messing them up trying out a new technique.

Thanks for all the positive replies everyone. As a reward before I go to bed, here's whats in the works:

I wish my Conversion skills were this good they look great.

Thanks! All it takes is practice man, also the right tools make all the difference, rubber clay shapers blew my mind when I finally got my hands on some of them. Sculpting is 10x easier now because of it. Also never be afraid to be ambitious. The standing pose on Sgt. Vadrek is the first time I've actually ever cut and completely re-posed Astartes legs. You wanna see a true master, go check out DarkVen's Night Lords. He knows what he's doing when it comes to posing.

Anyways, here's another quick update. 1st Claw primed. Just waiting for my VMA Black to come in the mail, then I can start knocking these dudes out.

Also here's a size comparison between one of my old Iron Warriors and Sgt. Vadrek. *le sigh* I love Astartes that actually look like Astartes.

I like them. They have just perfect amount of bits on them: not too many, but just enough. One says: "the perfection is not the point when you don't know what to add, but when you know you can't remove anything".

So, for this stuff:..

Nice paint job. Neat and clean. Reminds me of my first painted NL.

But, if you don't mind, I would like to give you some advices.

1. You might try to add brighter highlights to the armor. The point here is to make them noticeable from a +1m distance. It makes usually the model look better on the table.

2. The glowing effect of the eyes: try to mix the paint 1:1 with water, using red-orange, then try to underline the eyes with a very thin line. You may repeat the line to make it more visible, but do not try to triple the line - it'll become a warpaint.

3. Metallics look too flat for me. They are probably one of the most interesting things to paint, offering different grades and shapes of rust, patina and scratches. You might look at the closest steel or golden thing and you'd see that the metal isn't that flat. You might play with it and come up with pretty interesting results.

God, these are amazing. I really liked that test OSL you showed, plus all the conversions.

For the rhino'd Templar, I agree with the cries to show the poor fool's opened ribs. But also, I guess I just don't see Templars as bearded guys. Plus, this might actually be one of the areas to use any screaming heads you have lying around.

Herak pulled his saw-toothed combat blade from the woman's stomach with the wet sound of entrails ripping. He bent down and took a handful of her dress, once pristine white and decorated with yellow flowers, it was now soaked in her blackening life-blood. Herak fastidiously cleaned the wicked blade before mag-clamping it to the humming power generator attached to his back. Standing with a whine of artificial muscle fibers and mechanical servos, he took a rattling breath through the frowning grill of his respirator and surveyed the carnage around him. The bodies of Imperial citizens lay strewn about in various states of mutilation and butchery  They had never thought the Night Lords would strike this far from the war front, the fools were clearly ignorant to the Astartes way of war. With a snort he switched to 1st Claw's comm channel.

"Zon, where is Einar?"

Zon Gar's voice came back, deep and laced with vox distortion.

"Wait one."

Herak could hear Zon Gar stomping through the nearby alley, the sound of someone pleading in desperation accompanied his pounding tread.

"Found him, he's eating the dead again."

Herak sighed with annoyance, you can take a wolf from his pack and make him a dog, but no matter what, he'll always be a wolf.

"Tell that fool to bring his lunch with him, we're moving."

"Compliance."

A few moments later Zon Gar and Einar entered the market square where Herak stood, their baroque, midnight armor adorned with flayed skins and the skulls of worthy prey. Zon Gar was in the process of reloading his plasma rifle, an ancient and rare piece of technology, he had carried it since the days of the heresy. Zon Gar's helm was painted with a terror mask and he still wore the traditional plume of red hair that marked him as weapon specialist. Few in the legion still held to the customs of old, but Zon Gar was nothing if not a traditionalist.

Einar Black-Knife walked slightly behind Zon Gar, like dog who has been chastened and seeks to win back his masters favor. His raven-black hair was tied into a loose topknot above his scarred and tattooed visage. Fresh blood dripped from his canine fangs and was smeared from his mouth down the from of his cerulean blue armor. Upon his left shoulder was a stitched together patch of flayed skin taken from the former pack mates he had killed to prove his dedication to the VIII Legion. Beneath the skin was his former chapter heraldry, a snarling black wolf on a golden yellow field, now defaced with a red saltire. On his right shoulder he bore the winged skull of the VIII Legion and the red-stained gauntlets of a man living on borrowed time. Such was the treatment of all renegades attached to the 15th company.

"It's time we left these cattle to crows. Move out."

Falling in behind Herak, the murderous super-human warriors walked from the charnel house where 237 Imperial citizens had lost their lives to the blades of three of the Emperor's fallen angels of death.

More to come, I'm a bit of a slow painter but I'm gonna try and finish the bulk of these guys before fall semester. C&C welcome as always. Ave Dominus Nox.

I see progress. The painting is really good, I like new armor and glowing eyes.

But again, few tips, if you don't mind:

1. You don't need to cover entire armor with highlights. Try to use them only in places that light may reach. Additional, you might add few patches of reflected light with a very bright paint (something like ice blue in previous citadel range).

2. And I'd add highlights to metallics and red parts.

But it's just my humble opinion. Again, nice work.
