JeffTibbetts
Looking good, buddy! Gold is a tough metallic to photograph well and I think they're pretty good! Looking forward to seeing more soon. Kobrakei
Thanks Jeff. Not sure if I'll be doing any more Custodes soon, although I'd love to get my hands on Ixion Hale. So, I've started painting Voldus, but there was a big blue distraction that demanded my full attention.... Not sure if spraying him gold then painting all the inner plates would have been better, but I think whatever way I would have picked would have been a pain in the rear. I'm pretty excited to get him painted just because he's my first Primarch and it's such a great model :) JeffTibbetts 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280293-a-dark-song-kobrakeis-painting-log-darkshroud/page/14/#findComment-4715497 Share on other sites

Kobrakei
So I've been plugging away at Guilliman and managed to get his body done. I've found him quite easy to smash through surprisingly, and once all the gold was done and then the blue painted back in he's been a dream. The plan is to paint the base next so I can glue him down, then start on the backpack and finally the head (I loathe painting skin, so that'll be fun...) Raztalin and Sgt. JeffTibbetts
Dang, but that sword looks great. Probably my favorite bit of the model is just the way the flames are done, and you did a nice job with it. Very clean paint job in general. Nice work! Kobrakei
Thanks Jeff! Painting the flames part wasn't too bad, but the flat was a bit of a sod. Trial and error in that case, and luckily I got a decent result! JeffTibbetts
Not sure if you watched Duncan's video, but he did basically the same technique on the flat bit. Great minds think alike and all that . Kobrakei
So, being off work due to not feeling well, I thought I'd get some more done on Guilliman. And, well, this happened... I did the whole base, and his face in one go. I'm not used to this level of productivity! Just the backpack left. Jeff - That's exactly where I got it from. I tried to copy the White Dwarf version but couldn't get to grips with it, but Duncan's version worked like a charm. Warhammer TV is just so incredibly useful for little tips and tricks. JeffTibbetts
Nice work! Yeah, when I did my Belisarius Cawl I tried to go for a mix between the 'Eavy Metal version and Duncan's, with my own little touches here and there. I used all his basic paint colors, though, for the most part. Kobrakei
Thanks Jeff, Duncan knows his stuff! Anyways - Primarch done! He was actually a joy to paint, and once the blue was blocked in he wasn't too rough. The backpack took an hour painting session to complete, which was a pleasant surprise, and I feel I've done Big Blue some justice. Of course, this means I'll need some Ultras for him to lead. Did someone mention Primaris Space Marines...? Pics - Crits and comments are welcome as always! Kobrakei
He's looking great and that is an outstanding effect on the base. I'm impressed how fiery you made the sword blade. Excellent work. Thanks, he was a treat to paint and hopefully that shows in the paintjob :) Next up then, and quite a nice counterfoil to the Dark Angels army I'm in the process of tidying up for a mass paint, is Cypher. Again such a easy figure to paint, due to the quality of the sculpt and how awesome I've always thought he is. Only took three evenings to finish up, but I just haven't had time to take decent photos until today. Comments and crits as per! Hopefully will have Voldus finished this week, and then...who knows what's next? (Cawl. It's probably Cawl.) Kobrakei
Triumvirate done! I really enjoyed painting Voldus, and it makes me a bit gutted I sold my old Grey Knight army. But that would have meant updating their paint jobs as they wouldn't have matched the level I feel I've managed here and there's no way I have time for that :P I'll be getting some complete shots of the Triumvirate soon, and next up I've actually started putting paint to machine servant. Cawl's going down! Kobrakei
I think that may be your best work to date, bud. Impressive! Thanks Jeff, he did come together quite easily! It's nice to have been able to concentrate on single models for a while with the Triumvirate boxsets, so that's hopefully shown through on the last three guys :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280293-a-dark-song-kobrakeis-painting-log-darkshroud/page/14/#findComment-4774711 Share on other sites
JeffTibbetts
Yeah, I love it. Have you decided what you're going to do with Primaris marines, yet? If you're collecting them, will you do them as Shrikes or something else? It's caused me something akin to an existential crisis over here because I can't make up my mind. I'm totally going to do Ultramarines. I think after painting Guilliman it would feel weird having him lead anything but the boys in blue, and I won't need that many for an army :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/280293-a-dark-song-kobrakeis-painting-log-darkshroud/page/14/#findComment-4775551 Share on other sites
JeffTibbetts
I was actually thinking the same thing... The Ultras are really growing on me with the new fluff. Another option would be one of the many successors, though. There are a lot of good ones to choose from. I also considered Storm Lords because I like halved schemes, and white and red sounds cool. Kobrakei
Smashed this Company Master out quickly to get back into the Dark Angels flow, as I'll be running them in 8th. I'm happy with the front, but the robe at the back is meh at best and also there's a lack of definition on the helmet feathers. But, he'll do... Kobrakei
'The shadowed knife, blade gleaming with the false light of the moon, can never bring honour. But often, it brings victory' Tobarin, Gazing upon The Equilateral, M.27 'Look at me traitor. Look past my eyes. Past this form. STOP QUIVERING. Your fear disgusts me, and you are rank with it. Now look deep as I tell you, and what do you see? Beyond the twin beats of my hearts, and the geneseed that makes me that which I am, do you see? Look deep enough into any man's soul, and you will see their purpose. Look to the Ultramarines, and you will see duty, honour. Gaze deep into the anima of the Crimson Shrikes, and you see vengeance, revenge. I have searched deep into the soul of my Chapter and behold, I found murder. Lord Guilliman saw fit to create the Ultima Founding as a noble deed, a gift to the Imperium in its hour of darkest need. But do not doubt that he did not also require extremity. A willingness to take any action to save Humanity as it toiled and bled. We are not noble. But we are killers, and that is enough.' Brother Kalaides, II Company, Celestial Wraiths Adeptus Astartes. I was going to paint my Primaris Marines as Ultramarines, but then I found a spray can of Incubi Darkness and here we are...this took about two hours to this stage, and he's a little rough because I wanted to get the colours on him, but I'm happy with this and am ready to crack into the rest...
