Horus Heresy Emperor's Children: The Sang Froid

Captain Semper

Thank you very much guys - as usual your positive comments keep me going!

@ Darth Potato: Forte got it right. The minis of the two units are totally in proportion. See below:

Obviously the bases can distort this visually like in the case below:

but the minis themselves are completely same sized...

I really enjoy doing the EC and I'm committed in achieving the list in the first page. The Kakophoni come as an extra bonus! ;)

Well, the Kakophoni models are awesome - no question about that. And yes they'll be great for a HH Command Squad and will even translate very well in 40k. Unfortunately, I'm committed to the list I presented in the first page, so a command squad - if it was in the cards, it would probably involve jetbikes. I also would like to build the rest a pure Kakophoni because, well, they look fantastic as such! :D

But I would love to see your take on them! ;)

Thanks guys, I'm hoping to finish the last Palatine Blade this weekend. That will conclude my pledge for the Loyalty and Treachery event in less than two months! ohmy.png

@ Dragonkin Arenis: As regards the blood drops here's the deal: I bought the Sang Guard kit mainly to obtain the MkIV jump packs but I also had access to all this great accessories that work well with EC imagery - namely the elegant (for 40k standards) weapons and the wings sculpted on them, the artificer armour and some nice heads. The only problem was the blood drops... That's how the Sang Froid were born! Instead of a red blood drop it was an icy blue one and was adopted as the personal icongraphy of the Commander of the II Battallion of the 18th Millenial of the Emperor's Children Legion! biggrin.png In the particular case of the Orchistrator, it was an oversight not to paint the blood drop on the axe blue. blush.png I'll come back to do it. The chalice though is a bit of a problem as I lack the skill to eradicate it and I don't want to damage the mini in any way... I totally agree, it does not tie with the EC imagery... so I'll play it down in dull metal colors as to not attract much attention but that's that! laugh.png

Again thanks for the comments guys, the 18th Millenial is fiercly loyal to their Primarch and Commander Justinian is also one of Lord Commander's Eidolon's favorite subordinates. I'll build a bit of backgroud to tie everything together...

The EC toast to victory before their first battle so maybe the chalice is not so out of place.

How was building and painting the Jetbikes and Speeder? The look like interesting models.

Great work on the painting Captain Semper!

@ JeffJedi: The jetbikes are suprisingly easy to put together. The parts fit very well and I'd say they score pretty low in the intimidation scale. The Javelin on the other hand was a bit more challenging to put together - especally the moving parts (the lascannons are supposed to rotate). Again though, the overall experience was not traumatic... I guess there are more complicated models - or I was just lucky with my Javelin.

@ Jasp: an honour indeed! :P

@ Keith: Keep it simple in my motto. Straight out of the pot Xereus purple for basecoating, then a 50/50 mix with Genestealer purple and edge highlight with Genestealer purple. Simple and effective. :) Purple is not the challenging part - believe me. It's the gold and the white that need more attention and it's through these complementary colors that the purple really shows. It's imporant to keep the paint smooth though... Do start EC - the minis are beyond fantastic and a real joy to work with!

Right... update time. Firstly I completed the Palatine Blades. Here's the fifth and last Palatine:

  • 2 weeks later...

Alright, I finshed two of the four remaining Kakophoni... Nowhere close the exotic levels of Forte, but at least consistnet with my previous work. I chose Green as a descret binding clor by using Dark Angels Green for highlighting the weapons...  So we no further ado:

They look great Semper. Rare to see people using anything othe than grey or blue to highlight black and the green works well. Notice you've followed the FW black and white shoulders. You going for the apothecarion symbol on the right pad?

Oh, and the SW will never get finished ;)

Very, very nice Captain! I had wondered what the Kakophonii models would look like without the sonic weapons, the axe guy is terrific. I love the subtle movement in design from the Blades to the proto noise marines. My only suggestion would be to try a little watered down blue wash to shade the white, on the inside rim of the shoulder pads for example.

You're making me want to buy more resin dammit! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comments guys! thanks.gif

The more I look at them the more I think I need to improve the quality of the pics. Oh well...

Also looking at the Orchstrator, I have to agree with Anaziel and facmanpob. I think this could have been a great opportunity to paint all of the Cacophoni as characters with vicious close combat weapons and just use the sonic weapons with "ordinary" MkIV troops. They minis just look too good! :D

@ forte: No. freehanding the apothecarion badge is the surest way to ruin my prevous work... And I'm not even sure why they carry it... Does it have an explanation in the text? I read through it but can't recall right now...

@ Geordie I tried that effect with Guilliman Blue (like in the FW guide) and had mixed effects... So I opted to play safe and go for a cold white, which is in fact Ulthuan Grey! ;)
