I just received reinforcements in the form of tow MkIV assault squads - So I'm back in business! :)

 

A tiny bit of background first:

 

GIven the favor Justinian was enjoying with Eidolon, the 2nd Battalion of the 18th Mill. was one of the first to be fully equipped with the new advanced MkIV Power Armour. The 3rd Battalion was still largely favoring the MkIII while the 1st Battalion was only partially equipped with MkIV with the bulk remaining in MkII.

Smooth purple, but I can't help but feel like there's a lot of unused space there. Extra grenades and pouches, some twisty elegant freehand, honour markings....something.

 

Still kicks ass, though, brother. Glory to the III.

Did you say Xereus Purple has gone rock solid. Already! That's ridiculous. Find a substitute from a different company personally. One with a lifespan.

As H1k said, you could push the personalization just a bit farer : for example, a few golden kneepads would already bling the squad.

White is more the colour for EC for extra plates.

Platinum is for Palatine Blades. Silver with a touch of gold should do it. Or P3 (IIRC) do a platinum paint.

For the most part, yeah. The pic showing a standard EC at the latter stages of the Heresy, though, shows a platinum helm, and notes that personal adornment became quite common.

 

*shrug* Whatev's. Something is needed to break up the purple a bit, is my point.

Actually...you're likely right 1000heathens. Nothing wrong with a bit of self adornment in the III.

Regardign adorment, I was split... I didn't want to overdo it in what it's essentially the rank 'n file of my force... I was to be more liberal on adornments in my second five batch as there will be those who carry the special (power?) weapons and ofcourse the sergeant with whom I have not made up my mind yet: Sang Guard painted purple or normal marine with a lot of gold/platinum to make him stand out?

 

But the comments above made me think... Maybe I should paint a few details in a nice gold - or white for that matter... I mean, if not the ECs then who, right? :D

 

@ forte: re: the Xereus Purple you're right - I was surprised too - especially as the silver I'm using is from the 90s - in the hexagonal pots... (and yes I have some ancient ones with the round pots... I dread opeining them - it's like vintage wine!)

Looks good. You could add some unit markings or the roman numeral III to break up the purple on the rank and file (or cannon fodder as I call it).

This is still early on forte... Wait for the 40k version of the warband.. ;)

I'm not a fan of the platinum breastplate. It's well painted, but I the color doesn't fit the rest somehow, in my opinion. I've never been a fan of these Blood Angels bare heads either, but once again they're well painted... though the sergeant seems to have gone wild with mascara.

My favorite is the marine with the power mace, because of both said weapon and the pose. And I'm happy to see more grenades and pouches.

The bases make a good contrast with the models.

Absolutely stunning! i like the white that you added to the Sgt. I was going to ask about your loyalty and where it lies but a few posts up you showed your traitorous colors, I can forgive you though given the excellent paint jobs!

one crit are the bases representing rusted metal? if so maybe you could darken some of the recesses a bit more and maybe put some metal scratches on to stop it looking like earth

Lovely EC's Cap, have you tried "rescueing" the Xerxes by forcibly stirring in some water/thinner? I've rescued several rock-hard paints this way.
