I really like how de-saturated you've painted his face! That looks awesome, almost like his skin is coated in the ash of a murdered world. 

 

Have you ever read the Gaunt's Ghosts books? That's exactly how I imagine the ashy woad paint the Nihtgane use looks like.

Echoing the comment that Flint made, the skin tone for Night Haunter is a really nice decision.

 

If it isn't too much trouble, could you take some pictures of the little reliquaries on the leg greaves? I'm curious to what designs are on there, an interesting design choice for sure.

@Flint13, yeeeah the face is a happy accident, got saved by a veeeery thin wash of Gryphonne sepia, and the dry paints made highlighting the pointy features alot easier for me. I'll admit I haven't read Gaunt's Ghosts, not such an abnett fan am I.

 

@The_Chaplain, aye I'll happily do that, brief overview til I'm able: A tower being struck by lightning, a skeletal justice with scales, skeletal angel trumpeter with some little people below, and a skeletal reaper. And on each arch theres a little skeleton head.

 

@Augustus b'raas, you git.. if I remember correctly, I started from the undercoat with a thin badab black wash so I could see the details. Longbeard grey drybrush, another badab wash, thinned codex grey to accentuate his features, and tone down the black, detail brush w/longbeard grey to get his brow, nose and cheeks, veeeeery thin Gryphonne sepia all over to blend, and a touch more longbeard grey on the pointier aspects of his face. Eyes are straight black eyeballs, with the old purple wash to do the bags. And that was my very lucky cock-up start to finish. I pooped myself start to finish because of painters like chickenleg and lorenzen and all you others who I consinder better painters than myself, who do faces amazingly well, and felt under an absolute ton of pressure to get the focal point right. As soon as his head was glued in, my palms were dripping with sweat and I ranaway and had a beer.

Yep mr b'raass, there is a dirty level of detail. But it just means he is more awesome!

Wow! Looks solid mate!

 

One piece of advice I would give when it comes to the blood: don't overdo it (which is hard - but ask yourself: why would a dried up, fleshless skull still be bloody? The skinned heads might be bloody as all hell but the skulls - I'd keep them almost bloodless) and to mix Blood for the Blood god with a little bit of brown. This gives off a more coagulated, dirty kind of effect and prevents the paint from becoming almost pinkish in very thin places.

 

BTW I tried your method on the face of my non-GW terminator lord and he's turned out pretty good. Thanks for the tip!

The one thing I'd contribute in addition to Augustus (whom I agree with btw) is to take the highlights on the bone up one more step. It'll help distinguish them from the flayed skin. Especially those on his skin cloak in back.

Cheers for the advice guys! It's been noted and applied :) hopefully getting a daylight lamp soon, so pics will improve, but as I'd come back in from work, I blasted a bit more out in true "just can't leave the model alone" fashion, and did an in situe shot for you guys.

Some may recognise the corpses colours (thanks artist formely known as jaspcat ;))

i was gonna post an update on it, all the sub assembly and such, but I've had to do so much part cleaning! Think FW have rushed a load through, coz i've had to scrape heavily or carve bits off nearly all the pieces. I don't mind all that much, coz the kit just looks ace
