Khorne's Eternal Hunt - KrautScientist's chaotic WIP thread 2024: Suddenly, Death Guard...

Recommended Posts

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Augustus b'Raass: It's indeed a decal. Or rather, part of a (Cadian) decal: It was really tough finding a white "XII" at the right scale ;)

As for applying the decal, there wasn't any secret involved, mate. Here's what I did:

1.) Coat area with Vallejo Decal Medium

2.) Apply decal. Let the whole shebang dry.

3.) Add some Vallejo Decal Fix

4.) After everything has dried, add some Matte Varnish to take off the last bit of sheen (and for good measure ;) ).

Hope this helps! :)

@ recon0321: OSS is exactly right: It's a Skullcrusher helmet with the bunny ears clipped off.

@ OSS: Cheers, mate!

Cheers, man!

Only a day later, here we are:

Call of Chaos Update:

I actually managed to finish by Dreadnought/Helbrute, thanks to a couple of painting sesssions that really wore me out... I think I'll need some rest now ;)

Before I show you the whole model, I'd like to share a small detail that I am quite happy with: I have wanted to feature a mostly destroyed Necron warrior on one of my bases for a long time -- as a shout out to the iconic ending of the original Terminator movie, and now I finally went for it:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/5/675971-Assault%20On%20Black%20Reach%2C%20Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Dreadnought.JPG

It's certainly just a small thing, but there's a nice irony about two dead guys who both inhabit machine bodies sharing one base, don't you think?

Anyway, without further ado, here's the Dread:

And the remains of that poor Necron again, leaking oily fluid onto the ground...

This is indeed my fourth Dreadnought, and I think I may have one more of those guys in me at a later date. The only thing to decide is whether I want it to be a Dread for my fallen Space Wolves (who are allies to my World Eaters) or a huge, warp-infused beast. Or both? Anyway, for now, let me know what you think! :)

NICE! I totally second Flint. That ork choppa bayonet idea will be stolen - and what is that claw made out of?

The terminator-reference is soo fricking awesome. Kudo's to you, sir!

One tiny nitpick, and I feel silly mentioning it after the fact... the bit below the terminator breastplate (is it a shoulder pad?) seems to be a tad off center... is that intentional, the angle of the pic, or...?

Cheers for the feedback, guys! ;)

@ Flint: Why choose one when you can have booth on the same mini? Seriously, though: The one thing I am pretty happy with is that I have managed to make the somewhat stubby and ineffective looking stock weapons of the Black Reach Dread look quite a bit more threatening!

@ Assfresser: Vielen Dank! :) Love your Thousand Sons chaos spawn, by the way!

@ Augustus b'Raass: Thanks, mate! The claw is the standard power fist the AOBR Dread came with, with some spiky bitz from the wheels of the WFB Chaos Chariot added on top.

That plate beyond the sarcophagus isn't off center, but rather asymmetrical in design (it's one half of a Chaos Marauder drum). I do realise now that the arrow at the top might have looked cooler if centered, but oh well...

Cheers, recon0321! Making a fallen SW Dread is certainly one of the most interesting options, because I really like the new SW Dread kit a lot ;)

So, another small update:

First up, one cool thing about my new Dread I forgot to mention is that I kept the arms detachable, so the model can now be used will all the different extra Dreadnought weapons I have built so far (quite a few):

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/6/676348-Assault%20On%20Black%20Reach%2C%20Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Dreadnought.JPG

In fact, having another model that can profit from all those extra weapons was really the original reason for building yet another Dread ;)

In an attempt to relax after all that red colour, I also tackled some quick and fun conversion projects:

A little headswap I've been wanting to do ever since Dark Vengeance was released:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/6/676352-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Kitbash%2C%20Rubric%20Marine%2C%20Thousand%20Sons.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/6/676351-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Kitbash%2C%20Rubric%20Marine%2C%20Thousand%20Sons.JPG

The helmet will need some further repair (it's missing a sizeable chunk because it's actually basing material (!) from the Thunderwolf kit), but I love it because it's an almost perfect plastic version of Jes Goodwin's original Thousand Sons design.

I also built another Fallen Angel, à propos of nothing:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/6/676350-Chaos%2C%20Chaos%20Space%20Marines%2C%20Coversion%2C%20Dark%20Angels%2C%20Fallen%2C%20Fallen%20Angel.JPG

The pose was inspired by an excellent model created by fellow hobbyist Fawzi, by the way.

And finally, can anyone guess what this is going to be?

As always, let me know what you think! :)

As always a nice update from you, I've enjoyed the thread for a long time without actually posting praise.
Your dreadnoughts have been a good inspiration for my own, I hope to soon finish assembling them.

The last picture made me think mutilator at first, but he does have a knight titan resemblance. Mini-me even.

Haha, cheers guys! Listen to me: Epic scale will be the new true scale ;)

Seriously, though: I have very little interest in Epic as a game, but when a fellow German hobbyist recently started posting his kitbashed epic Knights, I couldn't help wondering if I would be able to build an Epic version of my own (28mm) Chaos Knight. It's just a little gaiden project, to be sure, but it's already been a lot of fun so far!

Oh wow that Fallen Angel!! I agree with Augustus, its internet winnng. That is getting borrowed for when I get to my Jump Pack Wolf Guard.

Have you considered giving him a jump pack, and using a 40mm base, making a crater where his hand is and spiderweb like cracks coming out from said crater?? Either that or the fist through an accursed eldar Xenos torso, which has exploded in gore from the sheer impact (and the crater?) I recall your guys fighting Eldar in a campaign and having trouble with them...

Or making another miniature in a similar pose but with the aforementioned gear?

As if he has arrived like some falling Bloodied Angel and the very ground trembles at his arrival?

Thanks for the kind words, guys! :)

First of all, let me say once more that the pose on that Fallen Angel you all seem to like so much wasn't my idea, but raher lifted from Fawzi's Space Marine army -- just to give credit where credit is due ;)

@ dantay_xv: A resounding yes to the idea with the cracks spreading out from underneath the Fallen Angel's fist, and a maybe for the idea of giving him a jump pack: He would of course be an ideal candidate for a jump pack, wouldn't he? On the other hand, I want him to fit in a squad with the other Fallen I have built so far, and none of them have an jump packs. We'll see.

@ Aasfresser: That's funny, mate, seeing how your excellent Thousand Sons were actually the inspiration that made me return to this earlier idea in the first place -- still looking forward to seeing your own approach, though ;)

So, a couple of news:

First up, regarding my Call of Chaos vow: I was basically resigned to give up on my final model for the vow last week, because things just weren't coming together at all. But then the strangest thing happened: Looking at all the fantastic stuff completed by the rest of you, I felt the spark of motivation returning: Be it Chaeron's unbelievable amount of completed models or Augustus b'Raasss utterly stunning Khornate daemon engine, I just felt I had to give it my all to complete this vow, and so I returned to the painting table -- cheers for the help, guys!

The task remains a problematic one, however: I really don't like painting the Forgefiend, and I swear it's hating me right back: In true daemon engine fashion, it has been fighting me every step of the way. That said, I have managed to get quite a bit of progress in. Here's where the model stands right now (excuse the poor photos!):

gorespite-pip-1.jpg

gorespite-pip-2.jpg

Not finished, of course, but getting there. Keep your fingers crossed for me ;)

In other news, I have made a bit more progress on my chibi version of Baron Harrowthorne's Knight:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/8/676910-Chibi-Knight%20WIP%2002.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/8/676911-Chibi-Knight%20WIP%2003.JPG

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/1/8/676912-Chibi-Knight%20WIP%2004.JPG

Most of the model is tacked together with modeling putty at this point, so don't worry if it looks a little wonky ;) That said, trying to keep as many of the visual characteristics of the much bigger 28mm version - within reason, of course - is actually quite a bit of fun! There's one area where I could use your help, however: If anyone has an idea which (easily available) bit I could use to make the Knight's toes, I'm all ears!

Oh, and one last thing: If you haven't done so yet, head over to Greyall's thread and check out his mindblowing rendition of Lord Captain Lorimar!

As always, let me know what you think! :)

I shouldn't help you after your cheeky comments (!), but perhaps the quad frag/smoke launcher from Chaos Vehicle Upgrade sprue ? Cut the barrels off, and placed on that facing, they look like toes. Might need shaving down a bit more, but I'm thinking of excess in a typical bits box......

Oh, there's also the base of the doom siren/dirge caster - circular column into cross shaped nubs. Good base for an ankle joint. Combine the two, and replace the entire base of the leg, heel and all.

I'll arrange pics if needed.
