The Infernal Guard - Bikernauts

Adra'Melek

@Cormac, as I said I'm moving to the Vallejo greys (as I have them around) and I could use the Black Grey, which is similar to the final very dark grey. But I like the effect of the two washes to give it that 'sooty' look

@Chiv, thanks, this is the final iteration of several attempts to get the right idea, pretty happy with it now. Re: red, I would expect nothing less from fellow Khornite but my wife doesn't like red so I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. She's already peeved I changed from Night Lords as they were "pretty" (I :cuss you not, she thinks Night Lords are pretty). So I'll give a lighter green a go and see how it fits. If not I'll look at red and she go buy more shoes :)

@Ace, cheers. Not sure if it's getting better but I think I'm getting a bit more steady handed. also spending more time over these than the tacticals as I need to wait before I can buy more. I think I'll paint up my Volkite Culverines next, even though I don't have marines to hold them yet.

Oh, and the chaplain has been torn apart. Not happy with it for some reason. Given I'll be using the Covenant of Fire ROW I'm limited to one consul so I think the Chaplain will become the special character. I also blame Cormac for the lava idea that I MUST do now but so far all attempts have looked tripe :)

Ok, so after a 2 month hiatus I've been given permission from the wife to put in another FW order (combination of birthday and putting off a PS4 while playing Dark Souls 2). Run out of grey as well so need some more too.

Order in and consists of:

Mark III Strike Force (10 for heavy support, the rest for tacticals)

10 multi meltas for the heavy guys I already have.

10 Pyroclasts

Dreadnought number 2, also with 2x CCW.

Ahh, how wonderful to see this thread back, and with promises of new goodies already on the way too! I can't wait to see your champion and those Pyroclasts when they're done!

Keep up the good work Thunor, and remember...

He's to be possible praetor or Legion Champion.

Here are the next guys...

Big question is whether I keep the Salamander symbol as the unit designation (Salamanders instead of Pyroclasts?) or shave off the symbol.

I've pretty much got the basecoat on the first Pyroclast. Thought I'd put the stages for washing again so here is the base coated one.

PS seen Vulkan :) thinking on how to turn him into Adra'Melek

Got any ideas on how he'll end up? Are you going to buy Mortarion as well and kitbash them together? Not talking about the scythe, but other parts that might fit to show a combination, like replacing the over sized pauldrons, as an example. Or especially Mortarion's hoodsd head replacing Vulkan's?

I think trying to cut out Mortarions head might be a bit tricky. I'd probably try and green stuff a hood. He's supposed to be hideously burned so not sure how to do that. I'm a bit reluctant to buy two primarchs to cut up so probably stick to Vulkan and use the Mortarion one for inspiration. :)

He will still have the inbuilt flamer, I like all the Salamander bling, then holding out a one handed weapon, switch out the hammer. Not sure exactly what it'll look like but I'll probably scratch build it. But the Salamander Contemptor will be used for the 'leader' of the talon and a counts as Cassius Dracos.

Fair enough, just tossing out ideas. Can't wait to see an Alternate Heresy Primarch, though!

What is his his armor going to look like, paint wise? Does he have his Legion's ash grey, or is he like canon Angron and Magnus, with completely different, typically all gold, armor? Either way, is it a fair assumption that he will be riddled with molten cracks?

He's supposed to be hideously burned so not sure how to do that.

Well, you could having his head wrapped in bandages like this dude: http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110513035247/fallout/images/a/a7/HonestHeartscover.jpg

I reckon with the bandages and his red Nocturnean eyes he'd look pretty fearsome.

Anything that evokes Joshua Graham is a plus in my book.

Although...wouldn't Anubis (our Vulkan of Prospero, for those not in the know) have the glowing red eyes, with Melek having canon Mortarion's "yawning pits of hungry darkness" peepers?

As far as his one handed weapon...a mace or flail (dragon skull on a chain! Who needs practicality!), military pick, or a hand sickle would be my suggestions.

Aye, potentially. Anubis' onyx skin and laser eyes is a combination of his unique genetics and Nocturne.

And that's the thing. Nocturne's unusual radiation is taken in by the Salamanders' overdrive genetics to make the impact permanent.

Melek and the Infernal Guard should be affected by this same radiation, but the fact that they lack this particular mutation means that the impact should be less extreme and non-permanent.

What I have so far seen, dusky skin and regular eyes, is a good indicator of this. Melek himself should appear like that.

Anubis and the Solar Tigers should have their mutation still, but absent Nocturne's unique radiation. However, they have plenty of opportunities to be overloaded with radiation anyways, such as Prospero and "psychic radiation" or something, and can retain their canon appearance.

Mortarion has amber eyes if my memory of FotE is correct (I was deliberately paying attention to that sort of stuff last time I read it :)). Bandages could be cool and would help me avoid having to paint skin tones. I wasn't going to give the Infernal Guard red eyes, just red eye lenses.

Regarding the weapon, it might not be a one handed weapon, just held in one at the moment of the pose. Vulkan appears to be pointing his wrist mounted heavy flamer, so his off hand is free to grab a weapon to strike.

Regarding the cracks, I visualise Adra'Melek skin having toughened through his early damage. Then as he moves, as it's not as flexible as it should, it tears and cracks open. But healing over extremely quickly. I imagine this being retained when he ascends, only instead of blood and puss it's magma.

Personally I always considered traits like Vulkan's onyx skin & red eyes, the Khan's asian ethnicity, Curze's pure black eyes and the wulfen side of Leman's Canis Helix to be things they gained from their homeworld, their bodies adapting to suit the enviroment when they were fresh from their incubation capsules. Maybe they had some sort of natural capability to adapt their genetic material to better fit with the human population of their worlds, something like their bodies passively absorbing DNA from human skin flakes in the air that their physiology takes, studies and replicates.
