Nomus Sardauk
Ohidorans? Where did you get that name from? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285810-the-infernal-guard-bikernauts/page/9/#findComment-3746110 Share on other sites
Adra'Melek
In Massacre, the Salamander Thunderhawk gunship in one of the pictures is called 'The Ohidoran' (page 128). Named for an ancient terror of Nocturne's primitive mythology. Legends speak of the creatures as both destroyer and protector in equal measure, symbolising the duality of violence, and these tales were oft quoted by Vulkan in his writings on the Promethean Cult Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285810-the-infernal-guard-bikernauts/page/9/#findComment-3746126 Share on other sites

Adra'Melek
I thought so. Storm shield Cataphractii forming and un breakable barrier (with power axes and thunder hammers). I can find any real world thing it's based on. Currently there seems to be nothing but that quote. Nomus Sardauk
Aaah, that's cool, I love little tidbits of fluff like that about a Legion. EDIT: BTW Thunor, I don't know if you're stilling looking for a symbol for the Prometheans but I did a little digging and the only fire-related symbol I could find was it's alchemical symbol which is an upwards-pointing triangle. Might be a little too close the Devastator emblem but I'll leave that up to you. Adra'Melek
Hmmm. After playing with a naff drawing package on I came up with the below. Top left is Heavy Support. Top right is a possible Promethean symbol, triangle with vertical line. Bottom is another option, triangle with vertical zigzag. I think I'll start with just the triangle and see how that looks (the different colour armour will identify them over normal HSS anyway. Cheers (I like easy to free hand symbols :)) http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae112/hammer_of_thunor/4f3a999a488517e367b9a7b67e756430.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285810-the-infernal-guard-bikernauts/page/9/#findComment-3746361 Share on other sites

Adra'Melek
Well it's one of the rare game weekends, which tend to give me an inspiration push. Just got an order in as well. Sicaran Venator, 10 Firedrakes, salamander heads and torsos. We've been playing a few games with Tyranids that have gone pretty well. First was about 200 points, recon marines with Vigilator making their way through Lictor infested woods to bring word of the attack. Next a cleansing troop investigating a compound that had gone silent. Finally, a small compound was surrounded and destroyed by aliens, could extraction force arrive before extermination? We used some of the rules/missions from victory is Vengeance, the last one saw 700 points of Infernal Guard holding out against 1400 points of Tyranids (with non-HQ going into reserves when killed). Adra'Melek
Note the unit symbol I finally decided on. 1) incorporates the triangle which is an old symbol for fire, as discussed above. 2) modified slightly to suggest the caldera of a volcano, Mount Deathfire 3) another link which I'll leave it to you to work out :) http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae112/hammer_of_thunor/c95a172aaa2fb6fca80e110888e54d12.jpg http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae112/hammer_of_thunor/5e32730de0fb6f05c399e6439a43b503.jpg http://i963.photobucket.com/albums/ae112/hammer_of_thunor/19083385976e3b49459e6e2f15f71665.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285810-the-infernal-guard-bikernauts/page/9/#findComment-3855714 Share on other sites
Ace Debonair
Daaaaamn that's cool. I really like how the hat's turned out on this one, that just plain looks good. No idea what the other link is for the symbol, unless it's that if you view it on it's side it looks like an 'XI' and might be a homage to a lost brother and his legion which Melek may or may not have had close ties to. Nomus Sardauk
Smart thinking with the Promethean insignia Thunor, glad I could help assist in some small manner. The symbol's design and lore is great, it makes sense the Prometheans would be connected to Nocturne's most terrible volcano. I also like the resemblance to the mark of Khorne, it's an excellent way of foreshadowing the dark future ahead of the XIV Legion. Adra'Melek
Cheers all. I went through so many different versions that didn't turn out right that I gave up. Then I was flicking through the Realms of Chaos (as you do) and came across that little gem. I think I'll use a variation for the Ohidoran (Firedrakes). No Legion symbol on the left arm though? EDIT: Scratch that, my memory holds facts like a sieve holds water, you had to scrape off the Sallies symbol that was sculpted on the pauldrons didn't you? Adra'Melek
I'm having it so the Legion symbol is rare-ish, tied to the Terrans. The 'new' Legion moves to the armour magma symbolising the Legion. The FW books have a lot of the marines without the Legion mark. Adra'Melek
Another couple of Promeathians are ready to start painting. Nomus Sardauk
So are these guys dedicated to khorne? They fall to Khorne yes, though as far as I'm aware this is what they look like pre or mid-heresy, hence the current lack of eight-pointed star, mutations or skull-taking.
