Biohazard
Rapid work as always. :tu: On the pilot, I watched the newest Pacific Rim movie a couple of days ago and there are some corrupted Jaegers in that. They’re piloted by a fleshy mutated AI drone. Just feeding that imagination a little more ;) Augustus b'Raass 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286791-augustus-braass-pre-heresy-brass-scorpion-p247/page/199/#findComment-5168773 Share on other sites
Vairocanum
Fantastic paint jobs as usual, love the plague sergeant the most, such a great blend of bits. Augustus b'Raass
Cheers guys. On the topic of Knight interiors - I'm not doing it on this one. It's just too much work right now: I'm in the middle of a work crisis, my parents and my cat is sick, and I and the SO have just bought our dream house in Amsterdam - and the housing market is insane these days. The hobby is to relax, and thinking about how I'm doing the interior (combined with the fact that the canopy is resin and not plastic - which structurally makes a ton of difference in terms of glue-bonds) is stressing me out and it's killing my vibe. So alas, this Knight won't get an interior right now... That doesn't mean it won't ever get one, and certainly the next Knight will get one - when I get around to building that guy. Which may take a month, or three years (I've been sitting on those Chaos Knight parts since late 2015, so...). Not to worry though: I fully plan on doing the interiors of the three Armigers I have planned. In any case, here's how far I am with the Knight at the moment. Trim sculpting is pretty much done, as are the trophies. I'm still contemplating what to do with the battle cannon barrel, but that'll be ok, I'm sure. I have some ideas rummaging around in my skull. Here's pictures! I hope you like him! Thanks for looking. Ideas and feedback and critiques are all most welcome. The ideas most of all, of course. Like's are fine, but don't realy do it for me. But I already wrote that a ton of times. ;) Anyway, cheers! Replies: @ hushrong: haha it makes me giggle seeing you still surprised at my speed: youé been following this thread for years now, and it still surprises you? ;)\] @ Brother Callidan: Yeah sure. I made a list of things that speed up painting about 1.5 years ago. You can find it here. :tu: @ Biohazard: I'll go watch that movie! Thanks for the tip! @ Vairocanum: Well, here's the Knight! I'm doing another five-man squad outside of the CoC (I didn't think about my vow and vowed all kinds of units I had planned a bit later and not the miniatures I have to do now) just because I most enjoy infantry at the moment. ;) KrautScientist, Subtle Discord, Doghouse and 12 others 15 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286791-augustus-braass-pre-heresy-brass-scorpion-p247/page/199/#findComment-5169393 Share on other sites
Biohazard
He looks fantastic, the putty work you’ve added will fit seamlessly with the FW details once you add paint. I especially love the rocket pod. :tu: I can totally understand your reasons for not building a cockpit for it at the moment. The model certainly does not suffer for the lack of that detail anyway. Congrats on the house buy and hopefully everyone else shakes off the Nurgles rot soon. Greenz
Oh wow. First off, that knight is looking spectacular buddy. The greenstuff is very tastefully done. Whenever I see beauties like this, I have to keep telling myself “one of these years I’ll get one” But that “generic” lord (not that there’s anything generic about him). Man, that blew my mind when I saw it! I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a Nurgle marine with a better pose than that. Perfect use of the head, and I love the belly being nailed together hahaha. Awesome work!!! Edit: almost forgot. Congrats on you and your lil lady getting the house! That’s terrific news brother. And hopefully your parents and furry model destroyer get better Edited September 19, 2018 by Greenz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286791-augustus-braass-pre-heresy-brass-scorpion-p247/page/199/#findComment-5169417 Share on other sites
DuskRaider
Sigh... I hate you. I really do. That green stuff trim you did is perfect. The Knight looks spectacular overall. ElDuderino
Damn man. This genuinely made me smile. Great work with the GS, it looks perfect along with the FW parts (speaking of which, how come almost noone uses those? they're cool as hell). Lovely. And the exhausts came out great! There seems to be a hair stuck the to left one though:) And don't fret about the cockpit, I see it more as a bonus. They're nice and all but not necessary. I'm guessing this one would mostly be full of pus and rot anyways haha And congrats on page 200! and the house! KrautScientist
I'm not as understanding as the other guys, of course: Your reasoning makes perfect sense, and yet, it's still a shame about the cockpit :( That being said, so sorry to hear about your stressful situation at the moment -- keeping my fingers crossed for you, buddy! :) On a more productive note, the Knight assembly looks really good. I really, really think you should do something a little more interesting with the faceplate, though, as that one element would truly make the model look more original and give it its own personality (vs Forgeworld's phoned-in generic skull-chaos look). Just my two cents, though. Augustus b'Raass
Cheers, guys. I woke up in the middle of the Knight - my sister warned me that this was going to happen the night after you spent several tons of money on your first real house (my current appartement is just that: an apartment). In any case: I'n on the couch in the dark now, looking for some distractions. And of course I went to B&C for some inspiration. I went where I should have gone all along - to the thread of master Imperial Knight interior+pilot builder KrautScientist and found his seminal work on that very topic. Suddenly, an interior doesn't seem quite so daunting anymore. This might need some further thought. Also, yesterday between phone calls, I finished building the following (and for the foreseeable future last) Plague Marine Squad: Squad Vulgarus Plague Sergeant Vulgarus Vexilarius Wurat Melee Specialist Pusit Weapon Specialist Scuhub Weapon Specialist Korst As you can see, I used two of the Plague Brethren marines for the Blight Launcher weapon specialists. Originally they had just their standard kit, but now that GW has screwed us over twice with these (once for just flipping the CADs of the DI Plague Marines 180 degrees, and a second time for releasing a set previously marketed as limited edition). The Sergeant Vulgarus and Specialist Korst are each other's mirror - I'll gladly post some comparison pictures. Their Blight Launchers are just BoP Heavy Bolters with amniotic sacs and tuping sculpted on top of them. Easy, but effective. Anyway, I hope you like them and welcome your C&C. Thanks for looking! Back to bed. Cheers Replies: @ Biohazard: Thanks, yes, the rocket pod was a happy accident - the support strut broke off when I dropped it, and the frist sculpting was done to mask that break. ;) My ma and pa are going to be ok, and so is the cat - unfortunately the latter has now gotten into the habit of peeing on my sofa, which I read on the interwebs is very hard to unlearn... Ugh @ Greenz_: Go and get one for sure, dude! They're tons of fun to do! About the cat: he hasn't ever estroyed a miniature. I've cought him starting to chew on a Maulerfiend's face once, and I scared him away. But he has absolutely no interest in any of my miniatures, except for leaving hairs on my WIPs, which KrautScientist will then mockingly point out once they're finished ;) @ DuskRaider: Aww! I hate you too buddy! About the colour scheme, I'm thinking Dryad Bark washed and drybrushed with a mix of that and maybe Steel Legion Drab, alternated by lines of your Death Guard ivory recipe. Red arrowed hazard striped with the ivory here and there. How's that sound? @ ElDuderino: Yeah I don;t get why not more people use the Chaos Knight parts - they are cool as hell. I guess it's because there's only one seet and people fear they're being too generic? Thanks on the support re: the cockpit and the congratulatory words on page 200! @ malcharion: Thanks, malchy! :) @ KrautScientist: well you seem to have somewhat inspired me yet again - not with those disappointed words, but with that excellent thread of yours! I ad no idea the cockit didn't fill the entire inner space of the body, but only the top half! About the faceplate, I was thinking of sculpting a lower jaw to it, using a set of front teeth pressmolded frmo the upper jaw, and connecting them in a jaw-like construction similar to the mourngul-DP I did last month. How's that sound? DuskRaider
I still can't get over that green stuff trim... it's too perfect. I tried doing similar but I just couldn't figure it out and the putty was sticking to my tools. Loving the new Plague Marines. Really liked the prior ones as well, I forgot to comment on them. As far as the Knight scheme, it sounds like it'll work nicely. I love red hazard stripes, I thoroughly enjoyed doing them on my Warhound and the contrast works well. I'd just make sure the red is bordered by the white since it may blend into the brown a bit. Dantay VI
Sorry to hear about what is happening in real life. I hope te family & cat get better and the work crisis eases off, so that you can relax more As for the cockpit, thing is, unless you plan on it being a display piece, when will people ever see in there? So is all the extra work going to be worth it, when it is an unseen detail? Also saw this at KF studio and thought it might make a great for a chaos knight if you decided to give this one a twin Hidden Content Edited September 20, 2018 by Dantay VI Augustus b'Raass 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/286791-augustus-braass-pre-heresy-brass-scorpion-p247/page/199/#findComment-5169737 Share on other sites
KrautScientist
Another cool squad of Plague Marines -- I especially love the sergeant's pose! Regarding the Knight interior: Attaboy! ;) Seriously, though: It's really not that daunting anymore, because there are enough templates to work from spread across the blogosphere. You may want to check out Biohazard's Knights, because IIRC, he has come up with a way of using one of the Space Marine flyer cockpits for a nearly seamless Knight cockpit. And one word of warning: Whatever you do, I don't really see anyone adding a cockpit after the torso has been completely glued together and the model has been painted -- that would just be making your life needlessly hard for you. As for the facemask, your ideas sound good. Personally speaking, however, I think I'd discard the stock FW facemask altogether and - if you want a skull-like visage) go for the combination of a Bloodthirster skull shoulder pad with a kitbashed jaw (also visible on at least one of Biohazard's Knights). That would give me machine a much cooler skull visage, in my opinion, and also leave a bit more of the fully detailed metallic skull visible underneath. The stock FW bit just seems so generic and "expressionless", for lack of a better word, to me. DuskRaider
IMO the FW Knight head looks extremely Khornate, maybe Undivided at the most... but I do agree, it's kinda meh. Although as you've stated, this isn't meant to be a strictly Nurglitch Knight so it might not be horrible with the lower jaw. Eldrick Shadowblade
Cool new Squad Augustus! I especially liked the plague cannons made from the heavy-bolters. It's an idea i might have to "borrow". I also liked the beastmen head for the standard bearer. That kit is at least a decade or older. I have those bits waiting to be used! Also, that knight and the sculpting is excellent. You'll need to share your techniques in a vid or tutorial sometime! Pearson73
The Knight looks great with all the extra sculpted details, the hanging torso is cool too. Augustus b'Raass
Wow, almost three weeks without Bolter&Chainsword. And in those three weeks, life has been consistently kicking me in the nuts. At least there's some huge silver lining (you could say, silver trim - with chaotic pointy bits): I bought a house with the GF and we got registered as legal partners! Also, Peer the cat is finally cured and has stopped pissing on the couch! Woooooo in any case, I have not been idle on the hobby front in the B&C-less period of time. Although that has mostly been building, and not a lot of painting. In fact, the last squad of Death Guard is the only thing I actually finished in 20 days. Behold! Plague Sergeant Vulgarus (who has a nice set of bells . Seven of them, to be precise. Nurgle's favoured number!) Vexilarius Wurat Melee Specialist Pusit Weapon Specialist Scuhub Weapon Specialist Korst I hope you like them! I'll most likely create one more squad of Plague Marines with two Blight Launchers, so that I can create the list of five 5-man squads with two blight launchers. Add a Chaos Lord of Nurgle with Arch Contaminator and watch everything disappear before them!Speaking of which, I finally finished building the Chaos Lord of Nurgle: And I've also build a bog-standard Tallyman. They're what's on my painting table at the moment, and hopefully I'll be able to paint them up tomorrow. After I post them, I'll give you some insights into the crazy building frenzy I've been up to. Thanks for your C&C and for looking even. Cheers!Replies: @ Biohazard: Peer the cat has been cured! Hurray! I hope you had a good night's sleep - a month ago. @ DuskRaider: you should really check out BCK's sculpting tutorial. It's what made me make a huge leap in sculpting skill. Also: red hazard stripes bordered by cream - check! @ Dantay VI: It's not that people will be able to see it, it's that I will know it is there. Also, KrautScientist will get mad if I don't do it, and as history has shown, you shouldn't mess with Germans. I saw that chaos Knight kit as well and although it's excellent craftmanship, it doesn't really float my boat. Besides, I have sold off all my Night Lords, so there's no reason for it to look like this. Thatnks for pointing it out to me, though! @ KrautScietist: I've been buying recast Knight pilots from China and real Sentinel pilots from eBay like crazy. I've also swapped a spare bike I had (a real bike, of the ones we have 1,5 of per citizen in my country) for two Armiger Warglaives. So coupled with my two plastic Knights, a posable Knight Legs set, the Chaos Knight resin parts, an extra Knight body, shield and heavy stubber I bought off eBay, the Armiger Warglaive I already had, and the two Helverins I've just bought, I'll have three Knights and five Armigers to crew! I have since gone and left the idea of using the stock Chaos Knight mask and crafted something different - more on that later. @ DuskRaider: You're right, it's not a Nurgle Knight - it's supposed to be undivided. I'll probably make a more 'aggressive' Knight next - which may be interpreted as Khornate? @ Eldrick Shadowblade: Ha! That kit is from the late 90's I believe. I was very lucky to reacquaint with a friend from that period last year, and he gave me a big shopping bag of sprues. Suffice it to say I can make an enormous Slaaneshi CSM/Noise Marine army, with a whole bike platoon and several squads of Beastmen cultists. @ Pearson73: Cheers! Augustus b'Raass
Thanks, guys!I finally got round to doing the Knight cockpit today. I'm getting more and more comfortable with plasticard lately, and it's been fun using these skills into the cockpit. Here's how it's looking! First, here's something to get you in the mood... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blrHHRWKygw It's finished now - the Pilot's seat is completely removable for easy of painting, so that'll be a blast. Now, all that is left is sculpting of the Knight's head itself. Here's what I have so far: So the horns on his temples and below his jaw just need some chaos banding/trim and it's done. I hope you like! Let me know what you think. Cheers! Replies: @ Isengrin: Ha, thanks! I certainly don't consider myself to be a truescale modeller... @ Viridia: Thanks, buddy! @ rednekkboss: Non-couch-pissing cats are the best, aren't they? @ DuskRaider: Yeah, except for 30 Plague Bearers and 2 x 10 cultists, as well as five more Plague Marines. I started the knight... @ sfPanzer: Thanks! I missed the entire B&C! I'll see what I can do with the icon!
