[French accent] A few moments later... [/French accent]

One hefty month later... I won't bore you with the details but it's pretty grim. Suffice to say that both covid and cancer have been running rive through my immediate family. Also, my cat has nearly died from urinary infection, recovered with a hefty medical bill but started pissing all over our couch from stress - so I had to give him to my aunty. I took a week off to calm down and find some peace in France. Wine and oysters galore!

That being said, I did manage to finish the last two Khorne Berzerkers of the MkIII armoured squad!

Here's the big chainsword guy (with a chainaxe strapped to his back so he's still wysiwig :biggrin.:)

And the final dude, the icon bearer!!

At the very last moment I decided to change their helmets. I'm still a little on the fence about whether or not that was the right decision, so I'm very much open to suggestions and arguments pro or con this decision. Let me know.

With those two, I have finally finished a full squad of heresy armoured Khorne Berzerkers. I decided to go this route instead of the Assault Primaris one - and have since sold the previous ten MkX armoured primaris-based Khorne Berzerkers.

here's a pic of the full squad:

To get back in the painting game, I also finished the base and flying stand of their ride, a Dreadclaw.

Let me know what you all think, I'd love to get a couple comments before I post more updates. I've been pretty busy with the MkV armoured squad, of which I have only posted one dude (the musician) before, above. I'd like to spread the post in which to share them out a little, so please bear with me and comment.

Comments are what keeps this thread going, so let me know!

Cheers!

@ Majkhel: Thanks for the kind and supportive words, buddy! I agree with your words on the blad power fist. Although it's also the picture quality, I'll go back to it and add some sharper highlights. Cheers for the constructive feedfback.

@ Doghouse: Yay those Eldar musician looked wicked and weird. Makes me reminisce and think of the early 90s 40k vibe. Going over catalogues full of metal miniatures and bits. In any case - have you considered buying some of those Tortuga Bay heresy armoured truescale marines for your truescale project?

@ Sagentus: Thank you! It's been an awesome ride so far!

@ LameBeard: Thanks buddy! Yeah it's crazy to think that I'm just one generation removed from the 1800s. Stop makign me feel even older than I already do!

@ Juggernut: Yeha I guess that's the best way of looking at the situation. At least there's skulls added to the throne. Sorry, black humor is kinda my schtick. And dad jokes. Mostly dad jokes.

@ Shovellovin: This:

If Orks can have Goff Rockers, World Eaters can have horn blowers. Awesome stuff. I also love the pose. It’s as if the marine is signaling his comrades, “The fight is over here.”

All of this! haha that's exactly my reasoning and goal for this guy.

Augustus my friend, I’m glad to hear you have found a little peace in the face of the tough times you and your family are having - I hope you all have better days ahead.

The squad together look great, I love the idea of an old-school command group. And I really like how the modelling leans into Khorne so strong whilst the paint job remains 100% pre-heresy. It’s kind of the best of both worlds.

Strangely I have that same head you are using on the icon bearer on one of my pre-heresy World Eaters (minus the bunny ears) and the same kind of indecision. I like it but also feel a bit unsure - I can’t put my finger on it. It seems like a distinctive “World Eater” pattern, but does the more obvious grill=teeth, lenses=eyes of the other patterns help give more character, more anger, more passion, than this particular helm?

Looking good mate, I especially like the first guy with the large chainsword. You're really nailing these guys. :tu:

Yeah the Tortuga stuff is really nice, I have easily a company worth of various marks of them and they work great with the plastic kits. I'm not planning on using them just yet though as I have something mind blowing (well to me) that I will be posting in the new year that takes it to the next level for me.

Take care of yourself mate and keep knocking the models out, I have as always an enormous amount of respect for you and your projects. :tu:

Hey hoo! Thanks guys for the kind words. I thought it'd be nice to post a collage of the eight MkIII Berzerkers (and later a new MkV berzerker)

xbAdViO.jpg

gMODvd1.jpg

And there you have it. Eight Khorne Berzerkers, ready to rumble! As you see, all are pretty distinctive. I actually managed to get seven 'types' in the squad, without actually losing WYSIWYG - except for the champion, they're all actually armed with a chainaxe and a chainsword - albeit in different shapes and sizes, and some are strapped to their backs or scheathed. Broadly speaking, there's the following setup of the squad:
2x Chainaxe and Chainsword in hand
1x Giant Chainaxe, chainsword sheathed
1x Giant Chainsword, chainaxe strapped

1x Chainweapon + shield (opposite chainweapon sheathed or strapped)

1x Champion

1x Icon Bearer with Chainweapon (opposite chainweapon sheathed or strapped)

1x Hornblower with Chainweapon (opposite chainweapon sheathed or strapped)

Here's the second MkV Berzerker I converted - it's one with a giant chainaxe.

As you see he has a 3D printed head. It's a very cool sculpt by Cornivius Redwarden Miniatures. I ordered it off Shapeways and honestly it's the last time I'm ordering off that site. the resin frankly is too brittle and it gets very splotchy with modern-day levels of detailing. A couple guys in my local gaming circle now have 3D printers and  have since replaced this particular printed head with the same design printed in a different resin and it's far, far crisper.

Anyway, I hope you guys and gals (wait, are there still gals here? I miss the old days when there where lots!) Comment if you're a non-male frater!) like these recent updates. Let me know.

Cheers

@ Freakshow668: Thank you, FS. That's kind of you to say :smile.:

@ LameBeard: Thanks buddy, I aprpeciate the kind words. Thanks for noticing the discrepancy betwee the full Khorne dedication and the pre-heresy scheme I went for, it's cool to read that it's being noticed. And yeah, it's weird between those two heads, somehow they convey the same regal look while being completely different in design.

@ Doghouse: Hey man, thanks so much for especially those last words, that's really kind of you and I appreciated it tons. Also, why wasn't I surprised to hear you have about a company worth of the stuff? For me it's the same. I bought 2 sets each of running and standign legs of their MkII, MkIII, MkIV and MkV sets, plus the same of their Gladiators, and a set each of their Katafraktos and their Tartar Knights - heads up, btw - they have a great $.50 sale of Katafraktos shoulder pads (including the vital lower ones)

Thanks Chaeron! I agree- I never would have thought that I'd paint an entire white army but it's turned out far easier than I could have ever imagined and soo rewarding. Love it.

Meanwhile, I've been working on some more MkV armoured Berzerkers. Behold!

First up is another thic boi with a huge chainweapon but this time it's the sword that's huge. As the Purple Marauder once said - a sword is a phallic representation of your own self (for reference, he carried a rapier so his was 'long and thin'- *shudder*- so I am happy these guys are Khorne followers instead of Slaanesh worshippers and their aim is to kill their opponents rather than.... 'conquering' them.

And here's a 'regular' zerker

Onwards to the champ and the icon bearer!

Beautiful miniatures as always. :)

Kitbashes look great!!

Although it's a little hurtful that you're calling my conversions mere kitbashes, I am aware that over the years the distinct meaning of those words has become increasingly blurred due to erroneous interchangeable use by young 'uns, and so I'll take your comment as a compliment.:tongue.:

I'll show myself out. :biggrin.:

My apologies, my mind's been addled by tea. :teehee:

Cheers, you two.

A while back. I promised to convert a human 40k miniature to one person in a raffle on *mumbles unintelligible jibberish*. Some Belgian guy won, who happened to also be a friend of frater Teku, here on Bolter&Chainsword. He asked if I could create a Primaris Apothecary for his Minotaurs chapter. So I did. Here's what I came up with.

nDZ57kp.jpg

s91ewqG.jpg

It's obviously made from the Captain from the Indomitus base, using the head and right arm from the official GW Primaris Apothecary kit, an Assault Intercessor's chainsword to give a nod to the classic metal Space Marine Apothecary with that weapon, and some scratch build servo arms, one of which featurs Fabius Bile's Xylos Needler. Pretty happy with how he turned out, and I hope you like him too.

Thanks for looking

Cheers

@NomadPainting: Yeah it's pretty big. Uhu. ;) Thank for the support buddy, it's appreciated.

@ BadgersinHills: Thanks and haha, don't worry about it. I had a good self-depricating laugh about my anal retentiveness concering the difference. :D :D

Thanks, peeps!

I had to get the Aspiring Champion of the MkV Berzerkers out of my system, so here he is!

Suitably brutal looking, wouldn't you agree? :biggrin.:

I used the ol' 'use a juggernaut collar as a halo'-type idea and kinda went with it. It was a bit nerve wracking to cut the collar to fit the old backpack, but in the end, it fit perfectly and it glued on like a dream - hurray!

Thanks for looking. Let me know what you think, I appreciate and reply to any and all comments.

@ Doghouse: Ha! Well that's high praise, especially from someone the likes of your stature - although I'm unfamiliar with your actuial height.

@ Smoke Frog: Hey man, that's nice of you to say. I haven't seen you commenting on this thread before (and if you have, I apologize for not remembring) so welcome to the thread! If you haven't already, I made a bit of an index on the first post of the thread, so go and check it out if you so please. :)

My love to you Augustus, losses within your pack are never easy.

I still love your work here brother, incredible as always and a major inspiration.

Keep your spirits high or failing that At least keep your blood-spirit level high.

Good work on the lightning claw berzerker. The middle picture on the top looks like it could be from a picture in a codex; it's a really heroic pose.

You should post an updated group shot. I'd love to see all of your World Eaters in one shot.

@ Doghouse: Ha! Well that's high praise, especially from someone the likes of your stature - although I'm unfamiliar with your actuial height.

I am a mighty giant that strides the lands a top a winged horse with the face of a Lion made of Lego called Waffles.

Loving the claws on that guy, makes him look brutal.

  • 2 weeks later...

Cheers, peeps!

Made another Berzerker.

OC8n190.jpg

MZVznzB.jpg

Had the weapons the other way around before, but realized the MkIII squad has a very, very similarly posed dude with that combo as well, so I gave the chainsword to the right hand.

Like it?

Another 'standard' berzeker (meaning he has one both of 'regular' chainsword and chainaxe).

3bLOVx5.jpg

kCzzmEq.jpg

I really, really enjoyed using this ancient backpack - I found it in the depths of one of my many, many bits boxes and it brought me back to my starting years into the hobby. I hated it back then, favouring the other two backpacks in production back then, but I have come to appreciate the bulk of this thing since then.

Cheers!

Replies:

@ LameBeard: Cheers bud. The Lightning claws are just standard claws from the Raptors box, just with new arms down to below the elbows to create a completely new pose.

@ Wulf Vengis: Cheers bud. Extra kudos for phrasing it as a proper Space Wolf player. :biggrin.:

@ Shovellovin: Thank you! I'll be sure to recreate that picture when he's fully painted. I'll try and do the updated shot.

@ BadgersinHills: that's kind of you to say, thanks!

@ ElDuderiono: thanks, buddy. I get what you're saying but with the amount of heresy armour, I feel like sometimes it's more of the occasional chaos part :teehee:

Anyway, here's the icon bearer. I've longhad an internal debate about what I should use as an icon - if I should even use an icon, and not create a banner of my own, like I did on the Red Butcher terminators a couple pages back. What I did know for sure is that I wanted the bearers of the three intended squads of eight berzerkers to not have the pole all in the same hand, so I might as well do this MkV squad's pole as a righty, as the MkIII squad's bearer had the pole in his left hand. I've used the Bloodletter icon hand for this - and its spiky nature inspired me to use the AoS Blood Reaver icon. Coupled with a blood warrior helmet ad the Possessed backpack, I think he exudes a very archaic feel, which I kinda like as a counterpart to the relatively clean 30k style berzerkers.

I hop you like him. Let me know what you think.

Cheers

Another excellent bunch of berzerkers, great posing and dynamism on their gear. Not so sure about the latest icon, personally it looks a bit too large and busy for the general aesthetic. The spiked pole on the other hand fits like a weaponized glove, very much in line.
