@Scribe: Cheers :)

@Sgt. Black: the details will take me a while, because dude this model has sooooo many.

@Flint13: Not to worry: the transition is actually purple (I mixed the two main colours (VMA Insignia Blue and GW Mephiston Red). The light is kinda distorting it in the picture. The mechanical bits - the cabling, will be mostly just black drybrushed with VGC Luftwaffe Grey. Perhaps there'll be some VMA Steel with AP Dark Tone. I'm first doing all the trim on the panels and then see how it looks. :tu:

@Wicced: Oh well, we can't have it all wicced ;)

@Kriegsmacht: Thanks!

@sockwithaticket: Haha thanks buddy! Though to be fair, I only painted three tanks. The fourth is build, but need to wait for vow number two. The engine stacks? Did you do that on a tank too?

@Soric: I'm painting the trim with my regular recipe of VLM Old Gold and a wash of AP Strong Tone. Would that suffice? :)

That Brass Scorpion is awesome!  You really went the extra mile assembling it and posing it, and it shows.  The overall painting in this thread is great, but I have to say I'm most excited to see the finished product on the Scorp.  :biggrin.:

Thanks everyone for the excellent feedback and encouragement. It's really motivational and inspiring - and keeps me going! I'll be working on the transitional lightning tonight.

@Forte: Thy will be done, oh pathetic prince (gotta keep the Khorne theme going, sorry ;)).

@Soric: alright buddy! :)

@Teets: Tonight is the night!

@Wicced: haha no worries on that front, Wicced!

@VelÇora: Cheers buddy! I appreciate you noticing it. :) With any luck I'll have him finished by the end of this weekend.

@Brither Kortmer: Well I'm especially indebted to Forte and Dragonlover for the idea of the transition. I will keep going!

Pics tonight of where I am now. I did all the external trim, the base colours sans the lighting (will work on that tonight), as well as all the brown undercoat of the metal parts, as well as some metal drybrushing on those brown parts.

I look at it this way: if I'm building and painting one to my admittedly slightly slipshod standards, the least I can do is help out someones that looks that damn good.

Did you paint the vertical trim on the back of the legs?

Dragonlover

Alright, update on the Scorpion.

Not going to lie again: painting this beast is proving to be challenging. I got too excited and went ahead and gloss-varnished the carapace, along with making the trim of the top plates gold. I then realized I needed to do the lightning still, so the varnish had been redundant. ALso, the gold I'm using is Vallejo Liquid Old Gold, and the pot I started using recently was quite old and thus dried. So I tried diluting it, but I only have 96% alcohol. Turns out the other 4% make the paint sclot really fast, so painting the gold has been a pain. Ugh. Guess I just have to keep truckin' with it.

Anyway! Here's some pics. I did finish the base, so I got that going for me, which is nice ;)

And the base:

Hope you like, and as always: thanks for looking and feedback welcome :) :tu:

Replies:

@Dragonlover: Cheers buddy. If by vertical trim you mean the back of the legs and claw, then yes. Just with VLG old gold and a wash though, so nothing fancy.

@arsurdelsur: Thanks for saying that, buddy! The bodies that I nail everywhere are mostly heads from Ork and Orc kits, hands from the zombie sprues, bodies from the FW HH Night Lords Rhino doors set (I bought a lot of them), and from the Secret Weapon Sack 'o Corpses set. The hanging flesh is just sculpted from a 1:2 mix of Milliput and Greenstuff. Hope this helpt. Feel free to ask me more questions, I'm happy to help.

Those lightning bolts are SICK!!!  Love the overall scheme for this model; it really does feel like it straddles the line between NL and Khorne, but I think that works in its favor.  The overall paintjob on this model is really excellent, I'm thoroughly blown away!  :wub.:

Its so pretty! That lightning is spot on... such intricate little windy bits.

And you're totes right, the transitions look much more purple now. Wacky what little changes in lighting will do. ^_^

I wasn't really sure that the red/blue would work, but I had confidence in your vision and you did not disappoint. He looks very, very nice.

The only nit I have has to do with the goop on the base. Are you going to leave it that bright? Although it isn't that prevalent, where visible, it seems to stand out too much to me. It may be the lighting in the photo, but considering that the rest of the model is a little more subdued, that stuff seems like it should be as well.

And you are most welcome to pull that stick out of your BT behind and start living the life! :wink:

I had heard that Forte had ripped off a set of our armor. I had no idea he was wandering around trying to impersonate one of us. :P
