++ AUGUSTUS b'RAASS ++ pre-heresy BRASS SCORPION p.247

Recommended Posts

Because I've been painting like crazy lately, I haven't even had time to post WIP pics here. So this post will try to summarize my progress.

I finished my first ETL IV vow the day before yesterday, by finishing the Nurgle biker squad and the Nurgle biker Lord. Here's a pic. More in my showcase log here.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Showcase%20Night%20Lords/2015-06-18%2018.06.54_zpspd2szhup.jpg

I then made a second ETL IV vow. Because of reasons, I'll repeat it here:

I, Augustus b'Raass, answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX IV a second time.

I vow to complete from Codex: Chaos Space Marines and Codex: Daemons
the following Night Lords units and those they use to sow terror,

with of total value of 495 points on or before August 1st:

1 Predator Annihilator with Extra Armour (150 pts)

5 Chaos Spawn (150 pts)

5 Nostraman Lions (counts-as Flesh Hounds of Khorne) (80 pts)

10 Plaguebearers of Nurgle, with Plague banner and Plagueridden (115 pts)

Success will bring eternal glory to me

and to the

47th Company of the Night Lords VIII Legiones Astartes, known as the Night's Reapers

We bow to no God.

We are terror incarnate.

Failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the year-end.

Pictures of all WIP units:

And today I finished the first unit in that vow, the plague bearers! Here's one pic of the whole unit. If you like to see close ups, please check out this post in my showcase log.

There! Updated! :) Sorry, I'll try not to do that again and keep this up to speed with my progress.

Replies!

@Dragonlover: Can't wait to see your man. I showed you mine, now show me yours! ;)

@Tarvick: Well I'm happy you joined us! :)

@BCK: Haha maybe. I probably won't do another one, but if you're nice I might paint a couple Blood Slaughters.

@Radiation: Sure it's not the other way around? ;)

Finished the Nostraman Lions.

I love how these miniatures have a definite feline nature to them, while at the same time being distinctly alien, with their four eyes and weird-looking jaws. Coupled with the bloody bloody gashes all over their bodies and with their collars and chains, they are absolutely perfect as slaved, gen-copied and vat-grown descendants of the Nostraman lions that used to haunt the wastes of the Night Lords' home world.

More pics in my showcase here.

Hope you like and as always: feedback more than welcome!

Replies:

@helterskelter: Cheers buddy! I went from hating to loving painting bikes. They're very rewarding to do. :)

@Kriegriss: Haha luckily I don;t use those weird looking GW bat crested helmets ;)

@sockwithaticket: Haha thanks buddy! Though to be fair, I only painted three tanks. The fourth is build, but need to wait for vow number two. The engine stacks? Did you do that on a tank too?

Clearly so overwhelmed by all the awesomeness that I counted an extra tank! Yeah, I've done the same on what will eventually be a Penitent Razaorback (eventually being the operative word at the moment...). Great minds think alike, eh?

I absolutely LOVE how the Brass Scorpion has turned out. It feels odd to say things like gorgeous about a brutal death machine, but it really is. Those large panels make a great canvas for your lightning  and it's good that you've gone relatively light on the trophies so as not to detract from those details. The base is great, too, though perhaps it'll want to get a move on. Standing above a prometheum pipeline seems like asking for trouble...

Completed bikers look aces and the accompanying plague-bearers have a suitably icky and sickly flesh-tone.

Interesting to see where you went with the Nostraman Lions. I was expecting them to be lighter, they're still well done, though.

Right! I finished the one Predator Annihilator in my second vow, and the third one this entire ETL. Now, my Squadron of three is complete. More pics, including of the squadron al togeether, here.

@sockwithaticket: Thanks Sock! Yeah I finally figured out what you meant exactly with that comment, and you meant the little shrines on the sides of the engine stack, no? Also, not to worry about the Promethium tanks - the Scorpion has two flamer weapons - perhaps he's just siphoning some of the juices into his body for use later? :cool.: About the skin colour of the Nostraman Lions, that's funny, because Quixus over at my Showcase log thought they were actually too light! To each his own, I guess? ;) In the end, I chose a fleshy tone and I agree that they turned out a little too 'dark', but considering that I'm using them as Flesh Hounds, I'm not unhappy with the result.

Thanks Tarvick! Yeah the headlights are pretty cool, huh? I found those bits in my bits box right before I was finishing building the tank, and one thing let to another... ;)

ANYWAY, one very productive weekend later, I have only one unit to do on my second vow: the spawn. For this unit, I have bought the Forge World Gal Vorbak models, as I think they are absolutely beautiful. I didn't want to use the GW spawn models, as first they are ugly, secondly they look ridiculous, and thirdly they are waaaay too far along the spawn path. I see Spawndom both as a punishment and as a reword from the gods. So in my mind, Spawn could also be seen as possessed that are a bit further alond the path to daemonhood. Hence I loved the Gal Vorbak models, as they are way bigger than normal possessed.

I replaced all of their ranged weapons with bits from the 40K Possessed and the WFB Forsaken kits, and replaced the two obvious Word Bearer shoulder pads with Night lords MkII pads.

Here's a group shot:

And here's some pics of all five individual models.

What do you think, everyone? Do they need something more? Or are they fine as they are right now?

Excellent work on all the models in this thread!  The character in your NLs is very strong, especially in terms of blending the mutations with the existing models.  Look forward to seeing your Spawn all painted up!

Some replies:

@The Psycho: Thank you, brother. :)

@Wicced: That's a good point, and I'll be sure to do something about the NL pads. Thanks :tu:

@Vel'Cono: Cheers! Won't be long, be sure of it.

@fire golem: They're from Puppetswar, a Polish company. Here's a link to the product page.

Oooh, Gal Vorbak as Night Lord spawns? That's a pretty awesome idea. I like the conversions you've done with them. They feel like part of the model, and don't clash. Personal favorites the middle lad in the group shot. I love the back jointed legs. Looking forward to seeing some paint on them.

I HATE YOU!!!

I'm really trying not to spend money and you show the Gal Vorbak!!!

And as for the BARGHEST FIENDS! How would they look on 40mm bases? They look like a great base for a spawn.

@wicced: haha indeed you hav, buddy, and I reallyi appreciated it. :)

@Tarvick: yeah they're pretty awesome kits, and the possessed bits work perfectly with them. The middle guy isn't the only guy with back-jointed legs, btw!

@disease: no reason to cry, buddy! I can only hope it inspires!

@Flint13: yeah that dude IS the coolest kid. Although the guy on the far left is also a personal fave of mine.

@@geektom: thank you! I hope forte also read you comment, so he sees that there actually is a lot of bristle brush work besides the airbrush work done. ;) (forte's been teasing me about it.)

@forte: serves you right for teasing me! :p btw for barghest fiends on 50mm, check out steve's latest post over at the strategium. :tu:

Fantastic work going on here mate, I haven't been what you can call 'Active' these last couple of months but it's nice to see that you're holding the banner of the VIIIth high.

Thanks, MrBrear Your commentary and likes are always much appreciated :)

I finished one of the Gal Vorbak Spwan. I did this on Monday night, and planned to do one each night - but a crazy work week and a nasty flu got me. So here I am on Saturday night finally feeling fit and having the time to photograph this guy. I haven't had time at all to paint any more. Hopefully tomorrow I can do something.

So without further ado, here's the first of four!
