Upon first looking at the tutorial(most the right side with the main body):

And then all the work that went into the rail on the underside:

I really wish I was this good at scratch building.

Maybe it is just me, but to be honest, it is not really THAT hard.  I do recall that when I was younger and I used to see the awesome works folks like Greydeath, Barphranges, Bro Sinear used to do, I too used to be inspired by them.  If anything time has taught me, it's patience, perseverance and putty the effort to make things correct.  If a part is a hairline off, I will make it correct, but even I have my limitations, so I work my best to the limitations.  To me the scale and detail is important, and no matter what, if there is an effect that I want, I want to push it to achieve it.

Referencing the Exitus Rifle's lines, those lines were likely sculpted using a sculpting tool.  Sadly I know that I can't achieve the effect using that method, but I am very used to plastic strips, so that is the way I approached it.

As for handling the plastic strips, I do it the same way as I do it for rivets.  One of my tools is a very sharp knife.  I replace the blade when I need to as the tip of the blade is very important.  I use it to stab the plastic really lightly.  It has enough static/sharpness to hold onto the light pieces of plastic to manipulate it.  Note that these pieces are like waaay small.

Frankly though, thanks for the kind words.  I don't really know if anything I do interests, inspires or just scares folks away.  Hahaha (Subtle Discord's precision scares me)...

Anyways... as promised, here are the pics for the new rifle.  I managed to get the size right.  The stock was difficult to get in place, and some cheating had to happen.  Sadly hard armour and hard stocks don't fit very well together.

See if you can spot what's thematically wrong with the rifle design...

Holy censored.gif that is some amazing scratch-building, my man! I love adding little bits to bolters, just to make each one a little different; the whole "there are million like it..." smile.png That sniper rifle is absolutely awesome, dude! Little details on every model are really what bring them to life, in my opinion.

Thanks!

Ejection port and barrel are slightly off... but I'll chalk that up to the bolter's inherent design.

Yeah the 'bayonet' is one of them... I can probably even use this as a relic blade proxy heh...

There are more....XD

Iron sights on top of the weapon when there's no way in hell he could ever actually use them thanks to the cumbersome armor?

The picture of the Remington Model 700 on wikipedia also shows iron sights even though they can't be used because of the scope. I chalk that up to a basic bolter being modded to create this beast, just as IRL all sorts of stuff is added to weapons to customize them.

Hahaha yeap, the iron sights don't work.  But bolter iron sights don't work either do they?

Reflex sights on the side of a bullpup sniper rifle with attached relic blade.  And the guy has no eyes.  XD

The anvil models are interesting.  Can see similar issues I faced with the position of the stock for mine.  Their gun is lower, so the guy can tilt his head and look in the top scope as per normal.

Oh, and for the someone who was asking, yes I do have fluff for my army.  It's pretty typically stereotyped though.  They used to be Mentor Legion gone rogue... blah blah.  You know how that goes.Nothing no one has seen before except for some silly stuff.  Since they are not exactly Imperium, they have a squat in the army who tinkers and is loggerheads with the techmarine, but together they like to mod and build stuff scavenged.  One of the aspirant trials is to scavenge jetbike parts from the Dark Angels so they KNOW the the DA can build more...

I wonder how the black and white backgrounds affect the images.  I know a lot of folks are doing the textured background thing these days...  Any advice on photography on this?

That Libby on bike is the greatest thing my eye have ever beholdeth.

I'll never attempt anything like that, but you may have just convinced me to finally pick up Sammael and have a look at putting a librarian in his place...

hmm the DV librarian might make a good fit... hmmm

Great work in here Scuz, inspiring ill say.

For some reason i can see you building more of those rifles ;D

A recon squad?

Thanks Jimmy!  You should try... even if you don't get there, you will learn a lot along the way!

Sammael is on a jetbike, so it may be strange to have him flying.  That was one of the reasons why I grounded it.  WITH TRACKS!  Mwahahaha... ahem.

Honestly it shouldn't be that hard.  The upper body is separate and can accept a new upper easily, as long as it has robes/cloth.

I doubt I'll have a recon squad.  This is after all, rules wise a Vindicare.  His gun is not mass produced.  FW has very nice recon marines and I do like their guns and cloaks.

Only in 40k would a sniper have a sword bayonet.  :D

Is the extended armor on the left pauldron a theme of your army, madscuzzy?  I understood it on the bikes, as you're not going to have as much ability to parry/dodge a blow whilst carrying past your target at speed so you'd want more armor to tank the blow.  I don't understand it as much on the infantry.

Yeah I've had some fun converting characters onto bikes in the past.

But if I really think about it I would probably want 5 of them, a chaplain, a Libby, a tech marine, apothecary and lord. :D

But could I really improve upon sammael? It's risky...

Maybe I could just make 5 body sub assembles hah

I've been thinking about putting the Dark Vengance characters onto the new bikes, just because, and how to exploit sammael as a centre piece, so your work here is like boom!
