I've been trying to emulate you, but my result is a very filmy, intense thick blue-green colour. I tried doing the 3:1 mix of Tamiya Clear Blue: Green, then a thinned blue on top, using an Iwata Neo. I earlier tried to do a pure blue, but same result. I was wondering if you could give me any pointers? :smile.:

No problem!

My firs few test runs all turned out like this.

First off are you thinning all your paints. I do atleast a 50/50 tamiya thinner to tamiya paints.

Second. Do multiple thin layers and don't try to cover the model in one go. Also you don't have to cover the entire model with the airbrsush either. When you try to make sure every inch has paint on it, that's when you can accidentally use too much paint. Try less coats and then use GW's thinned down washes to fill in the gaps

Here is an example of one of my originals, haha yours arent nearly as bad as mine! Mine were terrible

Ooooh, forgot about thinning my paints with Tamiya - I've been using Vallejo, even though I have Tamiya! That might be part of it!

And I definitely try covering the entire model, so that's another issue! Do you suggest I just use thinned Guilliman Blue for the areas I miss?

Ive found its best to thin paints with their own brand thinner (especially tamiya) And multiple thin layers. For what you are going for i would use thinned girlyman glaze for the blue and i believe.....coliea greenshade for greens.....

I put two pics below..... The first is my guy after airbrushing there will be no more airbrushing added

This next pics is the exact same same as the one above expect it has washes of girly man and Vallejo black as you can see it makes a huge difference

I actually like this quite a bit. A tad Sons of Horus, but can definitely work as Alpha Legion. I think you're good!

The original layer is very Sons of Horus - 75% Tamiya Clear Blue and 25% Clear Green, mixed 50%-50% with Tamiya Thinner. This is after I added my pure Clear Blue layer. The colours themselves I didn't mess up, just the application. The bottom picture is actually the one where the camera is actually showing how bad it is - the glistening leg :(

This is seriously among the most incredible armies i have ever seen. It doesn't just look like Blue sjeened metal, but rather just an oil blued steel. I loved doing this back in High School, so it is probably why this looks so amazing to me.

You don't do Commisions do you :O

I really like the black on the dread - breaks it up and adds variety while remaining uniform!

I was wondering if you've assembled the Spartan? I know it's bigger, so I was wondering if the FW doors actually fit?

Thanks ya I think black looks great with the steel and blue and figured it was something different as well.

And no not yet. I promised myself I was going to finish this months pledges before i start on new projects!

Small update, more seekers almost done, rhino almost done I put some pigments on it not sure how I feel. And almost finished with dreadnought claws cc and welcome, I'm not sure how I feel about the dust pigments, do you guys think it should be more grey?

The models look great.

I love the colour transtions.

About the pigments, I can kind of see why you are not sure as the grey almost gets lost amongst the steel, would there be any way of doing a darker grey, like wet or sticky gravel and leave the lighter grey around the edges as if it were drying out?

Either that or a touch of brown like baneblade brown, to give an ash/mud mix?

Beyond that I haven't got any other suggestions, your work is stellar..

Thanks! i have to agree i am disappointed with the pigments. I ordered some more mig pigments and i picked up more of an ash grey. That sould stand out better as well as better match my bases

I like the pigment because it actually looks like proper dust. However, with the predominately grey/black bases, it's a little mismatched to the rest of the guys. On its own I like it quite a bit, blue and yellow tints always offer nice contrasts.
