So, my first post here- I did a ton of 40k back in high school, dropped it for close to a decade, and now I'm back starting 40k again after a lot more experience, working on Astral Claws. My first few painted pieces. (With a bunch of notes on my blog)

You have a very unusual style there, and for the most part it worked out very well :)

The one thing I dislike is the blood.  The flat, monotone red just feels inadequate compared to the vibrancy throughout the rest of the painting.

Thanks, all!

Firepower, does it matter that the fluff is it's red paint that references blood? (The red that's later used as the Red Corsairs is referencing a blood pact late in the Badab war, for vengeance, and not supposed to be actual blood)

Quixus, I'm pretty sure it's one of the Dark Angels swords- think it's Azrael's, but I'm not positive. The handle is a FW power sword's.

That's fine, it simply doesn't look that way when you're looking at the models. It's in the pattern of actual blood, rather than a symbolic parody or symbol.

You can understand how, as a viewer that didn't know this fluff, looking at a chainsword with flat red on its edges and the teeth beside it would assume it was painted to be as blood, not a symbolic reference to blood biggrin.png

They're your models, so ultimately what "matters" is ultimately completely up to you :)

Oops, forgot to write back, a little duller blue this time (since it's more utilitarian), and yes, it's all NMM (I've grown pretty addicted to doing everything NMM these days, I actually find it easier than regulars).

So, next up, a drop pod (notes, as usual)

Some more Marines, this time, of a rather older variety. (Notes on the Tiger Claws)

Leaves the hobby for 10 years, comes back and knows NMM tongue.png These are absolutely superb, the old minis make me go all warm inside and the quality of painting overall is top notch. SH captain is also fantastic. Thanks for sharing and really looking forward to more biggrin.png

Edit - forgot to say, the MotF is crazy [in a good way]. How did you do the shiny green bits, they really pop.

Haha, thanks, tyrannosaurus.

On the green bits, it's white, washed with scorpion green (IDK the current name), then with the center done with yellow added, then redone again with just enough white to make it brighter w/o washing out the color. If I'm trying to get the glow, I apply the wash mixture with just a touch of the base I'm blending towards as a wash around it.

Next up: The first couple (living) Blood Angels (notes)
