@Relict: I like him! It's very hard to freehand a straight line on such an angled surface, and you've pulled it off nicely. Great work! Also, that helmet looks fab for him - I have the similar looking crested MkIII helmet from my three rapiers. I'm going to use one for the sergeant of my upcoming Khorne Berzerker squad. :biggrin.:

Now, I also have something to show here. It's the reason I joined forces with the Twelfth. I couldn't justify doing this guy in blue, so I decided to make a World Eater Detachement to my Night Lords Company. Here's the first model:

Many more pics in my showcase here.

You have made two of the :cusstiest looking models into something awesome.  I salute you sir.

I can't believe I missed this thread, also Augustus, I have said it before, but that thing is beautiful.

I, Teetengee, through Escharon, the King of Scars, through his outrider Ulrick the Mad, do swear on oath in blades and in blood upon the red sand.

Welcome Ulrick to my home.

(Ulrick Grunts)
You should know that any who wish to spill the blood of those corpse worshippers are welcome here, provided they obey the tasks given to them.

(Ulrick tilts his head)
Your's will be simple, and play to your strengths I imagine. Lead from the front; my berzerkers will follow your fury and together you shall add to my ever growing tide of blood.

(Ulrick smiles)

4th Kill Mark

Zerkers Squad 1 (800x600)

Zerkers Squad 1 Specialists (800x600)

Zerkers Squad 2 Specialists (800x600)

Zerkers Squad 3 Specialists (800x600)

Warband name is the Tide of Blood (although parts of it are not strictly Khornate), no company number because they are more a collection of animals and lunatics then they are the remnants of any particular force.

Nearly identical to mine, where the majority of the rank n file are Word Bearers, Minthras, and Purge as most of the Berzerkers died on Antecannis and the Wartorn ordered all the surviving WEs to have the nails deactivated and removed.

If I had a bloody working laptop I could sit and write this :cuss up finally after three years.

Perhaps not quite ;). Those with the nails serve their purpose .

Well on the topic of kills, I have painted some of the more impressive heads taken by Ulrick on his steed (read independent characters). Has anyone done similar?

(Of most particular note was an older ruleset of Ghazghul Thraka and his entire retinue (of only a few guys) when I charged them solo with him.)

I'm deciding if I want to make my Warlord a former apothecary to fit his understanding of the nails.

OK - what are the pros and cons you're contemplating?

Uh, I have no medical experience so I have zero comprehension of neurology and cranial surgery.

The plus side is getting more personal to the nails, its ramifications and ultimately knowing enough of how to deactivate the crude reversed engineered version with the tragedy knowing it is too late for the majority of the Legion.

The cool news is my bowie knife came in. She's sexy as hell.

As a student of neuroscience, I can tell you with fairly strong confidence that we have little to no idea about how a device such as the Nails might work or even if it is possible. As such, I wouldn't worry too much about making the science super accurate, just make it sound good and don't go into too many details. As for brain surgery, remember that the brain has no pain sensors (i.e. stabbing and rooting through the pain won't hurt, although it can have a variety of interesting effects) so the patient is only knocked out when drilling through the skull, and then they are woken up with only local anaesthesia during the procedure itself(to prevent them from feeling the pain from the hole in the their skull, which does have pain receptors). This is done so that the patient can immediately tell you if something seems off, (a nurse is there speaking with them and asking questions the whole time) as you will often cut of usage of a brain region before permanently damaging that region and can therefore stop before doing so. The patient's head is of course physically immobilized during this process, as otherwise they could move, and the slightest movements can be catastrophic. Keep in mind however that the brain is plastic (mutable) and even though central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) neurons usually can't heal neurons nearby can sometimes (partially) overtake their function; this works better in younger minds, some children have an entire hemisphere (side) removed and can function entirely normally (although if anything goes wrong they don't really have any more backup).

As for information specifically detailing the nails, they likely would tap into the amygdala and the 'limbic system" which are at least partially responsible for regulating fight/flight/flee response and emotional state. The amygdalae (the brain is mostly symmetric and thus you have one on either side) are located near the front bottom of the brain near the regions associated with episodic memory, in case you want to have anything discovered by accident, such as in the case of Phineas Gage. They might also tap into whatever brain circuitry regulates the sensation of pain, as even though the brain itself doesn't feel pain, the feeling of pain throughout the rest of the body has to go to the brain somehow. Interesting side note of pain, in many reflexive cases, such as moving your hand from a hot stove, you actually move your hand before ever experiencing the pain as the heat/damage triggers the much faster movement reflex (unless you are consciously preventing such reflex from activating), thus in many cases pain doesn't say stop doing what you are doing so much as it says you shouldn't have done that. (Only true for certain reflexes though.) Hopefully that helps in your decisions about this apothecary, I personally say GO FOR IT.

EDIT: TYPO; KILL IT WITH FIRE!

Well the situation is I do not want to over do him as a character. I also have no visual interest in making him have equipment suggesting he was one, merely inferring it through text.

And awesome Teetee.

It's an interesting idea, though, to have your warlord be a former Apothecary. I would really have that reflected in his model, however -- he could even be used as a counts as Fabius Bile, with his squad of augmented CSM representing some World Eaters he has recently and successfully tampered with.

From a narrative standpoint, the idea of someone (partially) unlocking the secrets of the nails when it's really too late for the legion anyway, is a pretty cool touch. I have a similar story going for my own Apothecary, and I think it makes sense that any attempts of the Apothecaries to tamper with the nails would have been considered highly dubious during Angron's rain, leading to only very few individuals actually concerning themselves with this.

Anyway, it sounds like a fun idea. Do take the time to convert a suitable model, though ;)

Yeah, I'm tired of waiting on parts though. Hence why I don't have any apothecary bits now that I happen to be just modeling the Juggerlord.

Just ordered a termy upgrade pack. Can use tge bits and the helm as a trophy.

I FenrisÚlfur, the Wolf that does not obey; Son of Angron; Proud Warrior of the XIIth; commander of The Eightfold; stand ready to make the sand run red with Blood for the Blood God! We are the Eaters of Worlds, and we will not falter until we have had our fill. May the Nails take hold and drive our thirst for battle!

So, because I can't get to sleep, I wrote a (very) short piece about how Lord Bekru gained his captaincy of the 27th Assault Company before the Heresy. I'm not very happy with it so far, as it's just a rough draft, but hey, its World Eater-y! Have a look:

@ incinerator950: Hmm, at least a suitable Narthecium gauntlet would be easy enough to convert, though: Just use the tip of a chainsword and add it to a suitable arm or powerfist. Or use a chainfist. Then run some cabling from there to the Marine's back, backpack or what have you. If you want to add some kind of techy-bitz, shave down an auspex. Likewise, slightly shaved down grenades could work as flasks at the model's hip. Remember, this doesn't have to be a straight up Apothecary, but rather a guy who started as an Apothecary and then went through the same 10,000 years of corruption as the rest of his legion. Here's my own Apothecary, btw. Maybe that might help?
