IP, I love that paint style of yours. So gritty. Much wow.

So I pried some spare time from my schedule's cold, dead hands and tracked down the wips in the non-post Heresy section.

I use only one WIP log, as I don't like shifting. My World Eaters are featured from this point on in my WIP log.

Ah God, all that list does is remind me of how badly I need to work on my World Eaters. I wanna, I just can't seem to actually sit down and build/paint the damned dudes.

Also, 400 posts! That's 50 times Khorne's sacred number! Blood for the Blood God! Come on, say it with me now! Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!

Dude, those are awesome, but that flesh hound is unreal. Can we get an upclose shot or two extra of him?

Thanks Flint & Augustus.

I'll try get photo of the Flesh Hound during the week.  But pretty much follow the painting guide over on the Warhammer TV on youtube

Greetings my fellow Eaters of Worlds I have owed this log some photos for sometime now. When I made my vow I was known as Battle8rother but I have changed into the raving madman that you now see before you. I am known as the Phalanx Warder and I have finally got started on my WE army. Here are some WIP shots!

More to come, I have to get 1000pts painted up by new years, my army is starting out as a ZM list that will transition into about 5000pts eventually!

@ Chaos_lord888 & Phalanx Warder: Welcome to the slaughter! Here are your badges:

Wear them with pride!

And while he has never made a formal declaration, I think InsanePsychopath's recently finished, very cool squad of World Eaters entitles him to a place in our midst. Welcome, Brother-Slaughterer:

In other news, I have finished my very first 30k World Eater:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2015/12/9/762961-30k%2C%20Betrayal%20At%20Calth%2C%20Conversion%2C%20Horus%20Heresy%2C%20Kitbash%2C%20Plastic%20Heresy.JPG

"I will never forget the day the legion ships came to my world. The whispered benedictions, forbidden even then, that accompanied them.
And those of us who aspired to a place among their ranks: Noble Hergan. Soulful Krizti. Brave Sharlen.
How they laughed at me, the baseborn butcher's boy.

And when those of the legion came to walk among us, clad in armour of white and blue, they were glorious and terrible, and we caught a first glimpse of the consequences our choice might have.

They passed over noble Hergan and soulful Krizti, and killed brave Sharlen when he dared to talk back to them, then laughed over his broken body in voices that were deep and cruel.
And they chose me, the baseborn butcher's boy.

Because for all its perceived flaws, the twelfth had learned even back then what others would only find out later
(and many too late):
That the Emperor's Crusade had little need of thinkers and poets, philosophers or noblemen.
It needed butchers."

Cheers, guys! :)

@ Relict: Thanks for the kind words regarding the bit of background, as I am really rather happy with how that came out. As for your own fluff, definitely go for it: I enjoyed that last bit (with Lorimar making a surprise appearance) so much! ;)

Now that my World Eaters army is 100% built and painted I look forward to restarting the lore-making. Glad to see that you are joining the 30K fray!

That's a badass blue and white. Looks to be almost exactly like mine, but with better weathering. :P

Well DUH! They're members of the same legion, after all ;)

But seriously, the weathering was surprisingly easy! I made a shade from Lahmian Medium and Army Painter Strong Tone and Dark tone washes and painted it all over the armour. That added a nice sense of definition to the various parts of the armour, while also making it look slightly muddy and dirty. Then I used a small piece of blister sponge to carefully add some Charadon Granite to select parts and edges of the armour, creating more pronounced damage and weathering. And then I merely brushed some Steel Legion Drab onto the feet, creating a visual connection with the base -- and that's it, basically.

Figured you mortal devotees of the bloodfather would appreciate this:

My favorite part is that he's revving the cuss out of his chainaxe while he's running, and spraying fresh blood behind him.

Very nice.

Good to see that the artist bulked up the legs appropriately as well. I'm not too fond of FW models' skinny legs. Remember - never let a brother berserker skip legs day. :P

@ Venomlust: That's a sweet piece of artwork! Thanks for sharing! I also wholeheartedly agree with Relict regarding the spindly legs of the FW Astartes, especially those in Mk IV armour. The Betrayal at Calth models notably don't have that problem, although they also revert to the usual, slightly crouched stance so typical of GW's Space Marines. Oh well, you win some, you lose some... ;)

In other news, I finished my model representing Lheorvine Ukris from "The Talon of Horus" yesterday:

  • 2 weeks later...

Brothers and sisters of the twelfth, I have written up a small tutorial for painting and weathering white Heresy-era WE armour which you might find useful. It can be found here.

Hope this helps! :smile.:

Sweet.

I like the use of CSM weapons - I always thought that the FW weapons are a bit lackluster. Utilitarian, sure, but not really tailored for each individual Legion. Were that FW released weapon packs for each Legion... A man can dream.

We do get the Cadere weapons tailored for us.

The mass produced nature is kinda cool to me, since the Astartes of 30k are still "just" a bunch of (super) soldiers, instead of the revered, psycho-indoctrinated warrior monks of 40k. It also makes conversions like K-Sci's Eaters that much cooler by comparison ^_*

Cheers for the kind words! In the beginning, splicing in those CSM weapons (and arms!) was merely an attempt to get slightly more interesting poses out of the Betrayal at Calth plastics, as they seem to be geared towards a clean, uniform (and ultimately: loyalist) look. I think the World Eaters probably never were as uniform as that, and due to the legion's heavy casualties and hands-on approach to warfare, I think it fits their background to have them in a slightly more ragtag appearance.

I also think the vanilla CSM weapons have a certain viciousness without being over the top chaotic -- I've taken to seeing them as "Sarum pattern" equipment, to be honest, created based on Astartes templates, yet with small tweaks to better fit the legion's bias towards warfare at close quarters (hence the additional spikes etc.).

  • 1 month later...

When FW gets to the book covering the Shadow Crusade (and releases post-ascension Angron), I think I just might do World Eaters army 2.0.

For now, the Ultramarines will do. :P
