Yeah that was sort of my view too Cheexsta. I'm think Maelstrom and maybe the tank based Warpsmith formation, backed by a KDK cad with a Bloodthirster (still brainstorming how to make a carnosaur suitably count as a Bloodthirster...I may just pick up the new Bloodthirster model and a few pred kits) and couple of blood letters, hounds and my daemon engines.

I'm also wondering about how to make a couple of count as forgefiends as I have the parts left over from my maulers.

Nice. My main thing was representing the weapons. I just want the stock one (axe of khorne and the whip). I'm going to make my KDK Juggerlord ride a coldone (dark elf one because they look more awesome), and I've been rethinking my "2 skinks on a base makes a khorne dog" thing. I want to magnetize their feet so I can take a skink off to serve as visual wound counters.

On another note, I wish we could get the mark of khorne to be just +1 attack instead of rage and counter attack (or if dreaming/shooting for the moon) +1 attack and +1 strength on top of rage and counter attack.

Khorne Csms and Berserkers should be the fightiest space marines and the new rules deliver that well enough, but I would happily trade situational rage and counter attack for just +1 attack. No other mark is dependent on situations for getting its benefit.

If you use that raptor formation, and assault from deepstrike, you are wasting your points with the mark of khorne, because disordered charges can't benefit from rage or Furious charge (I think berserkers should be the exception to this since they cost as much as grey knights).

Plus there is the chance that rage will be derpy in the future (like it was in the past).

My problem with KDK is that the best KDK lists use a minimal number of power armoured units. Whenever I used that book, the only power armoured units I'd take were Chaos Lords and Bikers (because they're required in a Gorepack). KDK didn't fix the fundamental problem with Berzerkers and Khorne CSM: their inability to reach combat.

World Eater rules do.

So, for me it's an easy choice: if I want to use more Daemon units, I use KDK; if I want to use more CSM units, I use World Eaters.

I don't believe that WE as an army are necessarily stronger than KDK, though. The KDK codex is good, mainly by virtue of Flesh Hounds, Maulerfiends, beatstick HQs and being able to Summon units in the late game. However, if you were to make two similar CSM-based lists using each codex, I believe WE would do it better.

Possibly a strange thing to wonder but is anyone trying combinations of formations from both KDK and WE? Whether cad from one or the other or just pick of the best formations? - just an idea.

Oh I am. I'm doing a world eater Decurion based off of a Maelstrom of gore (and spawns) a couple Lords of the legion (Juggerlords and a prince or two) with a cad of kdk with all daemon units (khorne dogs, bloodletters) and my maulerfiends and heldrake.

The bloodletters deep strike onto objectives. The Khorne dogs push up one side with Juggerlords, the maulerfiends push up the other with the princes.

And now, jumping to something else before finishing anything, I present a test berzerker:

What do you think? How are those leg armor plates? How about the cuts into the greaves to add another point of articulation?I plan on adding some more defined green stuff trim around the lower leg pieces. Where they essentially blended in to the legs on the stock kit, I shaved that way so I could build up something that you actually notice.

@ Venomlust: I think you're off to a pretty promising start there, mate, and judging by your other conversions, this should be really good, once it's finished.

Brothers and sisters, it has been far too long since I peeked my head over here, but I am simply not a rules guy, nor a talented number cruncher, so all the rules discussion sourrounding the release of the Traitor Legions supplement kinda went over my head.

BUT I still remain committed to our legion, heart and soul, and while working on my current, small-ish 30k World Eaters project, I made a new version of Angron that I thought you might appreciate (unless you've already seen it over in the WIP section).

Anyway, the model was based on this classic Wayne England illustration:

And here's my interpretation of that particular piece of artwork:

Of course they're interested! Look at that!

Thanks for the kind words. I've built 5 berzerkers with that leg plate but I cut it off some of them, just haven't got it to look the way I want yet.

Here's the skull champ of a separate squad that I started, sans leg plates:

Leg trim that I built up a bit with green stuff:

If it doesn't look too goofy, I'm gonna give them all scimitars:

I've still got to drill the plasma pistol and clean up some mold lines. I sharpened the green stuff work after it set a bit, looking pretty cool so far. The berzerkers conversion kit from FW might be my favorite kit out there... after the Bloodthirster.

I, like the leg armour plates you have given to the Berzerker, bulks him up a bit and brings a feral touch:thumbsup:

Krautscientist

This take on Angron, is top notch, but you have made another take when he has less armour nearly made me speechless, a perfect reflecion on pure aggression and brutality.

I WANT THAT SHIRT!

Kraut: you know I like your Angron!

@ Venomlust: Isn't it just atrocious that GW hasn't updated the CSM kit? Look at them - moldlines and misallignment lines everywhere. That mold is in worse shape than the falcon grav tank, and it's only half its age!

Had a go at sculpting some trim on the greaves. Not perfect, but good enough:

Waiting for the chainaxes to arrive...

Looks good actually. Maybe a bit thick but Greenstuff isn't exactly the best stuff for fine details anyway. ^^

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I have "brown stuff" somewhere I can try, or I'll just use thinner rolls of green stuff on the next attempt.

@ Venomlust: well done, dude. If it turns out too thick/round for metal paint, it will always look good as organic trim!

Yeah, definitely. Going to try a finer sculpt of trim akin to the trim on the bracers and breastplate on the next guy to see if I like that look more. Can always scrape off the style I like least and do it again. I'm never in a rush to get anything done. :P

The chainaxes arrived today! So here's a test of the chainaxe. Still need to straighten it a bit, carve some of the hand away, but this combination of kits is so badass. The only problem is how static the legs are. If FW would have just sculpted some legs to go with the kit, it would be absolutely out of this world and we wouldn't need a new plastic kit. But alas...

I'm chopping the CSM/Berzerker legs up and doing my best to make their poses look "realistic"  as if charging or swinging, maybe bellowing a challenge here and there and stereotypically screaming something about taking skulls. In the interest of time I'm not trying to cut the legs in 5 places to make it happen, if that makes sense. Anyhow, here he is:

I have 5 WE Rampager legs to sprinkle amongst all these World Eaters. Building I believe ~40 so I can run the Maelstrom of Gore. For funsies, and for the blood god. Combine that with a KDK Fist of Khorne packed with 20 traitor wolf berzerkers:

From an old (obviously) unfinished project; the Kharybdis is also almost totally cleaned up and ready for assembly.

I finally converted that free Slaughterpriest from the White Dwarf reboot. Since I went with bare arms I couldn't put some world eater iconography on his shoulder pads but this guy is a bona fide World Eater. Also have a few more pics in my WIP Thread.

GET SOME!

  • 3 weeks later...

I worked on a bunch of berzerkers today. They're still heavily WIP, but I've been adding damage to them (ripped up plates here and there, chinks on some pieces, etc.), as well as grenades and reposes. The poses aren't all A+ material, but compared to the squatty smurf default I'm happy with all of them. You'll notice a bunch of power fists; I plan to diversify the rest of the skull champions with axes. You've seen some of these before, so I hope you don't mind seeing a few again.

CHAINAXES! VRRRRRRRR-RRRRRR-RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Do like them Berzerkers you have made Venomlust, I use the same base   except I mostly use FW legs.

Feels like this is the first time a normal berzerker will be brutal and for once feared, if it reach melee that is. :biggrin.:
