Tundaran Knights-73 big update, tree demon, things!

Man have i had one hell of a week...

surprise tests, mountains of homework, losing my first phone (after 6 dang years!!), absolutely no sleep, hearing that two of my good friends will be shipping off to the military quite soon, and to top it all off, it's still hot as BALLS outside... dry.png

SO! i needed a pick me up for morale, and what better way to cheer myself up than with grimdark, acrylic paint, x-acto knives!?

to start this update, i finally got around to placing my second order of plastic crack:

There goes 4 and a half years worth of my savings... confused.gif

BUT, the Knights have quite a bit of expanding on the horizon, which is absolutely great!

(the curious may have noticed a distinct lack of weapons, and that'd be because i plan on making my own. For all of them. More on that in the future...)

Next, i've got the newest trio of marines primed black, and getting ready a layer of (the god awful smelling) vallejo air charred brown.

(stuff on the right will get silver for the stallions)

And also, i started my first ever stormtalon.

Now, personally, i thought that the storm guppy wasn't too bad proportionally based off the artwork and shots of it i'd seen online.... Until i opened up the box for myself and started looking at it.

Gee Wiz that thing needs help.

And help it i shall try! After perusing the Internet, I've pieced together several existing conversions to the kit made by others of a similar mindset and a pension for converting stuff; picking and choosing various things i liked from each, and finally throwing my own little twist on the whole thing.

I mean with all these extra piles of sprues lying around, pilfered from my visits to Wonderfest over the years, i think i'll be able to put something cool together!

What i got so far:

some detailed shots:

Of course, no vehicle is complete without a little BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! (the cuts still hurt btw)

flipped over, and extended tail section:

Lots of sanding and clean up to be done.

cockpit detail:

Hard wired and hell bent on spitting dakka on ALL the xenos.

The weapons so far:

The assault cannon turret has been designed to be able to drop down to fire in a 360 degree arc, needs some more wires and such to complicate the plain areas.

the drop pod missile launcher will probably sit on either side of the cockpit, unless a better option presents itself.

Now, it's still quite a WIP, as is obvious, but i'd like to take a second and explain the..... erhm..... interesting cockpit i've thrown together.

Basically, during a conversation with a fellow marine player who i'd been friends with for a good while, we started referring to the guppies as flying dreadnoughts....

To which i thought, why the heck hasn't anybody done something like this before?!

Thusly, i made this whole thing into a flying almost-dreadnought sarcophagus for some poor sod who'd thought his service was paid and came to realize otherwise, albeit Ala servitor-esque mounting in a weapon laden airframe.

I woulda put an actual dreadnought sarcophagus on it, and foregone the window glass altogether, (i hate those things!) but the design just didn't work with the venerable/regular dreadnought bitz pieces, as it had all that empty space around and behind the cockpit where the metal box could feasibly fit, and the angle to which they were set would require the entire cockpit to be angled downwards to make the view-slit point straight ahead.

(maybe on the next talon i may actually do it, it sounds like a really fun concept..... fingers crossed!)

Anywho, further conversions include:

-possible addition of small and tiny wings on either side of the engines to change the whole silhouette completely.

-moving the lascannons to a more centralized location while still making sure it looks okay on the ship itself. May turn them into twin linked lascannons if i can so that i can make the stormtalon into a counts as Xiphon interceptor...

-possible changes to the engine areas?

-extendable landing gear mounted.... somewhere. Probably.

-anything else i can think of on the fly, or is suggested by y'all.

Well, that's about all i got. Hope to show y'all more soon!

Y'all have a good 'un now! thanks.gif

This... is... AWESOME biggrin.png

The conversions, the painting, the bases... do you use real wood? Outstanding work.

Wow, thank you very much. The bases were done with real gravel and twigs i'd found outside in my back yard, sprayed and painted to fit the overall theme. Glad ya like 'em, and thanks for lookin'!happy.png

Fantastic! Loving the conversion work. All that extra detail tops it off.

I'd also like to see some close ups of the most recent marines, please.

With pleasure buddy!

hope these are close enough for ya, as my camera-phone can't handle anything else!

Sorry for recycling pics, but it's 11:15 my time and i have yet to start my homework for 3 AP classes. wacko.png

Evenin' y'all!

Let's get right into it, yeah? laugh.png

This is absolutely the highlight of my day today:

Ooooh man.... This is gonna be fun!

Also, i went ahead and finished my first custom stormtalon, I quite love how it turned out:

Thinking that this specific one will be a one off model, and the next couple of talons i get ( not in the near in the future, of course, after that FW order, my personal savings have been decimated!!!) I will have much less extensive changes, but share the same general design... i.e. the tail flip, some of the weapons changing hands, and similar wing mods possibly.

It pleases me to think of this guy as my red baron/dreadnought pilot of the 41st millenium. happy.png
As far as names for the class of talon, the personal name of this particular talon shall be.....

Vyla Lokyn. Translated to: Hunter of sons

A fitting name. No? devil.gif

Next is the base, then painting time. So there we go, my first Tundaran Knight vehicle, and it's looking like a promising start for my motor pool!

Lemme know if there are anythings that stick out in a bad way, i would love to hear opinions, especially what i could do for the next 3 or 4 that do pop up in the future...

(also, just thought of making a piece that can replace the TW assault cannons, as a rotory missile launcher, to make this into a counts as Xiphon Interceptor, do you think that'd be doable? i have a friend who LOVES his vendettas, and as my lists usually run with a good amount of fliers or tanks, that cannot be allowed to continue.... Until then, the AA defense force is my best friend...)

Thanks for takin' a gander, hope to update y'all again soon. laugh.png

Evenin'

got a micro update, life's again been hectic and all, the usual stuff. happy.png

Finished the core construction of my first breacher, who will be the first of a specialized unit known as the Vekira, an honored position in the chapters' history, traditionally offered to those of the first company who excel in close range fire-fights and the brutal star-ship clearing operations the chapter was known to undertake.

This fellow will be the specialist, not sure if i'll glue the plasma gun in, also, i have no clue what the thing i put on his not-chaos marines' backpack was, but i've come to terms in making it a frag projector, sooo yeah. Looking at it, it desperately needs some gap filling between it and the power-packs' crown. and the pack and front of the breastplate need a good sanding to boot.

also, i was inspired a good bit by re-watching the film American Sniper for the 7th time, so i started mucking about with a sniper styled marine.

I'm personally at a loss of how to go about making the rifle (because they are typically very sleek and thin, where-as a typical boltgun is anything but...) suggestions on the gun are more than welcome. Also, i've started chopping off half of the stormtalon kit pilots' helm for some bionics, as i'm wont to do with my marines these days, hope to find a way to directly hook up the bionic to the sniper whenever it's all said and done.

hope to update again soon, have a nice evening!

This would be a breaching charge... got this thing as well biggrin.png

Nice work dude smile.png

Ohhh, that explains a lot.... whelp, i was close at least! Thanks for looking!

thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

happy.png Thank ya!

had a couple minutes to spare, so i slapped a quick assault marine together, still getting a feel for working with the FW resin and such. Good practice for the more complex lads to come.

and here is a rough mockup of the planned base. continuing the wall running-tree jumping- jump pack parkouring theme i've got for the assault astartes in general. The final terrain will definitely not be a rhino door, i swear!

Thanks y'all, hope to post again soon!

Hey y'all! Hope you're having a nice Saturday!

Finished the rest of the breachers this morning, hope to get some opinions on them before i move on to the bases and paint.

First, a regular marine converted to look like he's sprinting in closer to some, presumably large, target:

Next is another marine firing, this time with a modified master crafted plasma gun (fluff wise) as well as a grenade launcher, much like his brother armed with the not-breaching charge- frag projector on the crown of the power plant:

The squad sergeant, with a thunderhammer and/or a Di-plasma thrower for when he makes the charge or needs to support his kin at range:

Last is the heavy of the squad, carying a heavily modified assault cannon with a hull breaching chain blade mounted at its' fore:

These guys were a heck of a lot of fun to make, hope to get more shields of some sort to make full tactical squads armed like this. My aim is for pretty much all of the line astartes to have shields, rather than just specialists, as the chapter as a whole specialized in heavily armed shock assaults on dug in targets, whether cowering in bunkers, or tucked away in the deepest bowels of voidcraft.

Hope to post more soon, y'all have a good one! laugh.png

EDIT:: the alignment issues of the assault cannon, and the filling, cleaning, and other general tidying up will come later. Just wanted to clarify how they aren't quite ready to move forward with yet. happy.png

They are looking great, really love that sergeant!

Thanks a bunch guardian!

sorry about the silence lately, been forced to revert to lurking for a long while because of house renovations (especially in the hobby room) and my overall lack of spare time has only fed the fires of procrastination into an inferno.

BUT! i got myself a clean little area to work in, so i sat myself down and got to work.

Now, you'll probably notice the new background style of the pictures, being white and all, that's because of a new casting desk that my father and i have put together, in order to better facilitate the lighting, we painted the whole interior white, which now doubles as a nice place to take pics!

Anyway, here's what i finished:

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Virah Kovaldin Dvorak

High regent of the 7th great branch, prince of the falling comets, the Clarions' call

With an air of nobility uncommon among his kin, Dvorak maintained a quiet distance from his peers that often came across as crass or pompous, keeping to his quarters between times of war, and often withholding "unnecessary" information from his allies.

A master strategist known for orchestrating the fall of countless enemy strongholds across the segmentum, it is said that the captain of the 7th branch could bring down walls like a composer labors on their masterwork, swift strikes preluded by orbital bombardment and precision aerial assaults. His mastery of warfare also stretched beyond the besieging of fortresses, showing a proclivity for capital ship boarding actions when the chance presented itself, even going so far as leading from the front when opportune.

His complete hatred for the eldar was no secret, their fast moving, fluid methods of lightning strike warfare infuriating the oft docile siege-master, sending him into an illogical rage and .

It is with great relish that the Captain sinks the teeth of his forces into the elusive ones' holdings, particularly the ancient craftworlds that traverse the void, his penultimate goal.

In battle, Dvorak prefers to deploy directly with his most trusted brothers, the Vekira, to ensure the most pivotal areas of assault are brought low, ensuring his kin break the defenses of those within to a degree that there can be no recovery. He carries a Vecer pattern siege hammer, crafted of Okhrymian bloodsteel, and forged by Dvorak himself on the chapters' homeworld Tundara. The hammer exudes a pale blue light from its' core, the power field maintained in the very metal of the hammer-head rather than as a sheath typical of thunder hammers, this strange alteration not only amplifies the impact force of the weapon, but also allows the user to bring the weapon to bear against fortifications and armor with much greater impact than normal. The hammers' concussive forces can slam into targets and crack armor, splinter bone, and snapnecks even when embarked in transport vehicles or when piloting war suits like the Tau. Dvorak has also been known to make use of one of the chapters last remaining Skehzal blades, 5 foot long relics that shimmer in burning promethium when activated by the user, these weapons are favored for duels and combat against foes that could eclipse even an astartes in size and strength, in the right hands fully capable of carving through the chitin of carnifexes and rending apart the cockpits of riptides.

"this place you fought so desperately to defend...

It belongs to the ashes now.

Weep, wretch. Know naught but sorrow,

for no one shall remember you, no one will save you,

but they will all hear your agony. I will see to it, personally."

Notes:

-the blue armor trim is characteristic of the 7th great branch, rather than the white of the first great branch worn by most of the survivors of the chapters' excommunication. Kept as a mark of remembrance of his fallen brothers after the chapters' extinction.

-yellow helmet marking designates the honor of siege breaker. Gifted traditionally to line astartes squads for effectiveness and notable achievements during siege operations.

-modified leg armor custom fit and enhanced with additional ceramite and adamantium bands by chapter artificers and their mechanicum allies

-wounded Dark eldar of the Cult of the sister scythes, exterminated in the cleansing of the Ulras sector

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

So, that's my siege master for when i play SAV, or whenever i feel like throwing down a thunder-hammer on the table. The little note about the Skehzal blade is a thinly veiled recognition for my enjoyment of throwing him in with the burning blade when i run a Red Scorpions Loth deathstar.... biggrin.png

Hope y'all like the new format, definitely something i want to keep using in the future....

Comments and critiques are most welcome if you'd like, i'm always looking to improve.

Next update may be a little while, depending on how the renovations and schoolwork goes. Hope to post again soon.

I'll see y'all next time, have a good one! happy.png

Thank ya! happy.png

I forgot to mention it earlier, so i've gone ahead and made a quick little WIP shot as to who's next...

the brown is pretty much finished, along with the trim gray, everything else will be changing quite a bit next time i get a chance to sit down and paint. Also, the rest of the story will come with him, of course. biggrin.png

::Tohra Krouzak, of the Vetrelec infiltrators, 9th great branch::

The last rad-stained astartes was sent tumbling into the ash dusted gravel as a single high caliber bolt shell punched into the space marines’ throat, puncturing the soft mesh-armor just to the right of the jugular, and detonating with a muffled crump. As the corpse slid down in the charred shale, the armored helm tore free of the rest of the complete suit of MKVII plate, bouncing off the rocks and spraying rivulets of rich, thick gods-blood into the dirt as it went bounding downhill. Tohra Krouzak racked the slide of his weapon back, the emptied sickle clip falling cleanly from its’ housing. As he did so, he removed a large box magazine of bolt rounds from its’ storage point just between his back plate and power plant, and clicked the munitions into place behind the boltguns’ fore grip.

The astartes was about to move on, but hesitated.

He stood there a moment, head tilted to his right, Lymans' ear filtering out noise with precision to leave the sound of a tanks' rumble in the distance. The astartes extended his left arm straight out ahead of him, palm upward. A moment later, one of his familiars clawed its’ way into reality. The diminutive, glowing beetle chattered and stretched out its’ thin legs a moment, covering the breadth of his massive digits, before leaping into the air to serve as its’ masters’ eyes and ears in search for his quarry. Krouzak marched on once more, quietly observing the ash fall in sheets from the clouded sky around him. He was getting closer.

Great work, nice to see so much variety. I'm returning the favour and borrowing the pilot Dread look, had the idea for my Hell Blade and now I know how I'm pulling it off. Thanks!

Hahaha, glad i could be of help man! Hope to see it sometime in the future! smile.png

Looking good, your marines are definitely some of the most brutal I have seen.

Thank you i strive to add some extra sense of character to them as individuals where i can, glad that the theme and ideas are coming across!

Again, thank you so much for the support! biggrin.png

The New additions look Great .

thanks.gif

Hey guys, fell off the map again, this weekend homework's been killing me and all region tryouts start right after break, so i've been needing to practice for that.... Anyway, not much progress, but just enough to make me feel good about myself for a bit.

first, i'm finally getting together with my gaming friends this weekend, maybe if i'll remember i can take pics of how it goes trying out a Siege Assault list for the first time, proxies abound. If anything happens i'll post about it later turned.gif

Next, been screwing around with a new lighting setup again, the pics of my converted stormtalons' base show what i want the most, the others had my lanky 'ole arm in the way.

stormtalons' base first.

The flying stand is set at an angle on purpose, as i've altered the mounting joint to fit askew so as to make the talon look like its' banking hard to the right, assault cannon turned the same direction of the -totally not dead- pilot:

Next, i had to hack up the arm on my assassin character, the paint job got totally miffed in an accident involving a pesky little brother and gravity.... and it was at an awkward angle anyway.

Now, because of that, i've been kinda lacking enthusiasm on the project, so i went and worked more on the backstory instead....

and then i started an apothecary build, just 'cuz i love their models so much and needed a break from the nightmares of taking a knife and sandpaper to a nearly finished piece.

didn't want to chop into such a nice piece so much, so i just went with decorations and a loadout change for flavor.

anyway, that's all i got for now, see y'all again -hopefully- soon! happy.png

Hope classes are going well and best of luck on the try outs! It's going to be all worth it though but there are side effects. It's been three years since I got my Bachelors degree and I still have night terrors about a bio exam i have to pass to graduate even though I never attended a class for the whole semester.

Anyways, I like the assassin. I do not really see brown armored astartes but it sure looks good. The Apothecary is looking the business but what is on his left shoulder?

Haha, thanks! my school alone has ~8-9 other bass clarinets trying out so competition is insane! Studying for the AP tests are gonna drive me straight bonkers too. pinch.gif Wish i could skip to friday, the whole week's been going WAY too slow!! And i wanna see the next playoff game bad, we're goin' to AT&T stadium!

Thanks a bunch for the compliments, i know brown was a weird choice for color, but i chose it precisely for the fact that nobody else does it, and i wanted to try something as unique as possible.

The angle of the pics is pretty bad for it, but that's a raven perched on his pauldron. it'll be one of my first actual combat familiars put into plastic, and i really wanna sell the chapter full of pseudo-psychics deal that i've written into the chapters' background yet never backed up with a model. (save for the liche-king fantasy model form way back last year, and the little beetle that needs to be replaced onto the assassins' shoulder once again.)

thanks again for takin' a gander! i appreciate it!

Nice job on your latest batch of models! It's been a while since I've had a look so I just sat and read through a couple months of stuff :P Your paint work is really coming along nicely, that high regent is awesome especially what you've done with the thunder hammer's power field. I'll probably be stealing that next time I do a TH. Love the fluff as usual too, great stuff all around and looking forward to reading more about your chapter.
