I've come to you my fellow warsmiths looking for alittle bit of advice.

I feel like i've run out of steam with working on my iron fourth. I have a set of ten raptors sitting in my case to get painted, and i recently picked up three new additions, two maulerfiends, and a knight to chaos up.. but the drive to work on them has been lacking lately.

I find myself not so very enthused about continuing to build lists with our current 'dex, and im under no illusions that it's going to be fixed any time soon. I've given thought to turning my attention to the heresy, (id be able to make use to Perturabo, and the.. 20 cataphractii terminators i have sitting around) But i feel like the twenty marines i have built now, while if you look at my stuff, is already a mix of heresy and chaos mk armour.. they look alittle too chaos with the horns and such. Third option, though i do lothe to admit it, would be use the space marine 'dex for the time being and build towards that.

Have any of you found yourself sitting in a similar position, and what did you end up doing about it? Any thoughts or advice you feel you could share?

I think we all feel your pain, you're not alone in your predicament brother! That said, don't throw your spiky towel just yet. We received new rules for chaos knights recently (in case you missed that). So my advice would be to take a brief brake, join the ETL with your models to be painted and experience how the ETL magically lifts your spirits and fills you with new motivation to fight the long war. For me personally, using another codex is just a no-no. It's whack. It's admitting defeat. It's ^%$*^%$&. One more thing you could do is picking up IA 13 from FW, if it's allowed in your gaming group. Lot's of interesting stuff in there, too.

Join this year's ETL, vow your maulers and raptors. Treat yourself to the Knight as a second vow. The ETL is the way to get your hobby jive back. :) :tu:

This. I was feeling the same way. My IW just felt...bleh. The hobby felt...bleh. Then I picked up IA:13 and found a new wind (abit one from the warp of course) and have dived right back into things with a traitor guard force for my IW.

On the flip side, we haven't had to buy a codex for how long now? And look how many codex's the silly space marines have had to buy....

What model is that standing next to the Iron Circle?

Just finish painting the two Iron Circle models during the week there, so here Iron Within & Iron Without.  Chaos era, I still see Iron Warriors useing them with in there warband/legion/force.  They will ether be Contemptor Dreadnought or against friends useing the Horus Heresy rules as end of the day they know me as a hobbiest & know I just want to use models I think look cool in my games.

Also look like the metal Iron Warriors shoulder pads are no longer on sale over on the Games Workshop web site :(  Pretty gutted as I like useing them & I think I've still got 40 left.  But start stocking up on the Forge World once, try get diffrent mix between MkII & MkIII version to use.

Wow, these look ace! Brilliant job once again IP. I wish they were usable in 40k. They are really beautiful models.

//Edit: Are they about as tall as dreadnoughts?

Little bigger than contemptor dreadnought. I think I posted photos over on my army log in the forge area of the forum last saturday?

I got a more theoretical question. I have read about khornate iron warriors (Storm of Iron), and nurglite iron warriors (often modelled with shields). But i was wondering about fluffy explanations for iron warriors to devote themselves to Slaanesh. Iron warriors don't really strike me as the sort of people that really care about pleasure, excess and the like. So why would they suddenly have sonic weaponry, flayed skin skirts, icons of slaanesh and prance around with half naked daemons?

Well, in Angel Exterminatus the EC tried to convert the IW to Slaanesh which didn't work out. Actually, I have never read of Nurgle-devoted IW in the fluff either. There is that tidbit in the codex of how Perturabo had dealings with Nurgle daemons for a cause, but other than that I never heard of such a thing. Same goes for Tzeench. IW are generally an undivided legion wiht a few people devoted to one god or another.

Hey there!,

Still plugging away at getting everything assembled for Goodwin's Legion of Iron! Huzzah!

Someone showed me that neat formation of like four daemon princes?  Looked like it'd be kind of neat to run, not sure on how effective it is!

I have two daemon princes, Belakor, bitz and a Black Reach dreadnought so I got thinking...

Would/could a a dude strapped into a dreadnought be able to ascend to daemonhood?  I remember in one of the Honsou stories he straps that daemon into an old Ultramarine's dreadnought and thought that was MIGHTY cool.

I was thinking a dread with some daemonicy conversions, and wings may look pretty cool and fit an IW theme.  What do you guys think?  Possible?  Stupid!?

Say you have a group of Iron Warriors that are laying siege to a city. It's a long siege, and both sides are throwing everything they have at one another, but more than that, the fighting gets personal for the Iron Warriors. For example, the enemy captures some of their brothers, and tortures them where the rest of the Iron Warriors can see, but can't stop. Then after a long, hard fought siege, the Iron Warriors breech the walls / defenses, and enter the city. All of their frustration and anger is let loose in sacking the city. They make it he city pay for every slight and revel in the city's suffering. At some point as they reach new heights of excess in sacking, the Iron Warriors cross a line that can't be crossed back, and are marked by Slannesh. From there, some will rise in favor and become noise marines.
