Hey Donkalleone, Yes he has used Ferrus, Horus and Curze, plus some Gal Vorbak... and while still recognisable, as their base models he has put an incredible twist on them, who knew Terminator weapons would scale so well with Primarchs??

 

xxoblivionxx, I will assume you mean Migsula's models... Yes pretty amazing eh?? My stuff looks positively mediocre in comparison, but at least it gives us something to aspire to eh??

 

On another note, so much for seeing a project through before moving on.... I am building me a Knight..... An Acheron!! Got the legs done so far and will prime when I get home. The FW Knights have fully detailed cockpits but no pilots, so will keep the upper body separate so I can paint the crew compartment properly.

 

With that in mind I have started a new gallery.. 

 

 

Full of knightly ideas... I actually quite like the heraldic shields in black red and bone, so may use a different one for each knight as and if I get any more than the one....

 

 

 

So what should I use for a house symbol?? Any ideas

Nice conversions but I don't like the fact that he uses any part without taking off the night lords or whatever chapter symbols they bring. A little greenstuff redo would be awsome and needed imho.

Ah, it took me a few moments to cotton on there...

 

You're meaning Migsula's stuff from Iron sleet. Yes, I guess you are correct, on the not removing some of the legion specific symbols, but he may have been going for a bit of character on each model.

 

To be honest I hadn't really noticed :)

My vow is now underway.

 

Hit a few snags almost from the get go though... Leadbelcher has run out and I spilt my nuln oil so none left... However this is to be considered a challenge not a problem.

 

Going to try Agrax earthshade for shade and shadow, and just mix blak with iron breaker and try to keep it consistent.

 

This is where she stands just now.

 

 

However my brothers & sisters, kin of Russ I need your help. This Sicaran is to be an honoured relic for 40K, but I want to use her for 30K and will try to weave a worthy saga.

 

First I need a name... Worthy of a Champion of Fenris.

 

Secondly I need some design help.

 

I keep  gallery of ideas, and I want to make her ornate without going over the top, plus time is limited. Any ideas on how I should mark her up?

Is there a small something you could put on the small empty panel on the left tread? Looking at it quick I liked the right tread design better. A closer look had me thinking the left depending on what can go on the small tread guard thing.

 

Like the wolf head on the side. What is your concept for this one's back story? It may help with name ideas.

And of course your work is also inspiring, Dantay!! The knot work continues to amazing me!! And having such a large canvas to work on is great!! I hope someday you tackle a knight!!

Thanks guys, the bigger design is basically a stretched version of the smaller one. I like the bigger designe because it goes all the way front to back. However I like the smaller design because it looks (to me) more cohesive, you can see the design as a whole without imagining the gap being there.

 

The small section at the front could have some sort of runic ward on it.

 

As for names, well, maybe Russ was fond of his Shield Maidens... I am thinking to name it after a Valkyrie from the Edda's... Possibly Randgrid or Randgridr (shield breaker), Geirahod (spear battle) or Hjorprimul (sword warrioress or sword battle).

 

Hmm, maybe I should get 2 more Sicarans, and I could have the 3 sisters hahaha.....

 

Which in that case they could be named after the Norns (the 3 sisters living in the well of Urd beneathe Yggdrasil. The 3 are Urdr (What once was), Verdandi (What is coming into being) and Skuld (What shall be).    Quite Apocryphal. Urdr sounds quite cool

 

It is a little bit of a break with tradition, as it seems that many vehicles are named after weapons (mjolnir for example), but she is a relic of a bygone age...

 

What way do you think I should go with the namings?

 

And RPR, I have a Knight in the works, an Acheron, as yet un-named. House name, not yet chosen, but not of the codex Knights.

It is attached to the Wolves, but the household wears red and bone. Think fire and ice

It has a close association to the Vlka Fenryka, but is not Fenrisian. There will be knotwork, but more in the banners and battle honours side of things, a bit like this.

Anyhoo, I am plugging away at getting my Solstice Advance vow done... Did the wolf on the opposite side to yesterday, same design, but look nothing alike really, grrrr! Saving Grace is that you can't see both sides at the same time

 

 

, May try incorporating some black in to the wolf to tie it in with this....

I decided to do the runic rims, like on my Raptor, but had to make them bigger... I think it looks okay, tried dark at the bottom getting lighter with the gold as it goes up...

 

With or without the lascannon sponsons... I am considering either magnetising them or, using tem to make 2 Long FAngs with drumfed HB's :)

 

 

Top knotwork matches both sides now..

 

Made a start on the turret, trying for an aged brass effect, but worried this will look like a gold mess!! Any tips on brass, and I do not have any brass paints with me :(

Played with some heat discolouration just behind the muzzle brake.. for fun and to see how do-able it is, need to stipple some black on the end of the barrel too.

 

 

This is to fit for 30 & 40K hence the nice grey... Any ideas on 30K wolves pack/ vehicle markings??

Your detailing is truly inspiring Dantay. I have yet to finish my Sicarian & now I'm glad I haven't. I apologize up front but I'm stealing some of your ideas. Mine just won't be as well executed as yours. Looking forward to seeing more.

I PIGGING HATE PAINTING RUNES!!

 

No worries Rift Blade, borrow away, nothing is stole, which is happily given, the amin thing isn't wjo's is best, but that you are happy and proud of what YOU achieve

 

I do have a small confession about the runes around the sponsons, I spent 2 nights trying to do those and just about gave up on them, but sometimes you just get lucky/ resourceful.

 

I could draw/paint it okay on paper, and you can get stuff off the internet, outlines and such which you can print and the paint, which is what I did, plus on paper you can screw up as much as you like and not wreck the paint job, paint effects to try them out etc.

 

After almost launching the Sicaran across the office in a manly fit of rage (no high pitched ranting I swear) and a lot of "expletive deleted's", it saved my but, looked good and also covered up the horror show underneath... Pigging runes!!

 

I guess the moral of the story, is you should always keep trying to push yourself to get better, but it's okay when things do not work out... Just keep practising and if that doesnt't work, adapt and overcome.

 

I will say though, the wolf and knotwork were done by hand, soI am not a total fraudster hahaha... just takes practice :) And one day with practice I will get those runes nailed, maybe not as nice as these one's but one day... They will be mine!!

 

Did I mention that I hate painting runes!?!  

 

Next step is to get the gold looking nice and shiny like the Raptor's... then do some detailing on the turret and front plate... Tidy up the autocannons and make the presentable...

 

Oh and I almost forgot, cheers for the boost Rift Blade, glad you like it and nothngs stilen which is gladly given :)

Cheers Morgan, you should go for it!! Its an absolute doddle, just 2 tubes, 1 slides into the other then gled into place. Pop the original autcannon tips on and done!!

 

i also drilled throught the turret and ran tubing through to connect the guns together, alas I drilled squint and the autocannons do not quite line up.

 

Just waiting to see if my wifey  Shield Maiden has approved my requisition for new magnets and the problem will then be addressed.

Well all my stuff is stowed away for now, as I'll be flying back to Aberdeen (maybe!!) later today.

 

The gold looks good, definitely more yellow and different to the raptor, which I will put down to using a different wash (sepia, as opposed to ogryn flesh)

 

My only slight concern that I have is that the gold is too "shiny". I used a gloss varnish over it and I am wondering if a satin finish might have been better?? The washes really dulled out the gold  

 

Anyhoo, names...

 

I liked the Valkyrie names, such as:

 

Randgrid or Randgridr (shield breaker),

Geirahod (spear battle)

Hjorprimul (sword warrioress or sword battle).

 

I keep referring to the tank as "her". Valkyries are the cool Shield Maidens who are choosers of the slain, and decide which of the dead go to Valhalla and which go to Freya instead!

Weirdly the Valkyries, while carrying weapons, are not ever known to have used them.

 

I also like the names of the 3 Norns:

Urdr (What once was),

Verdandi (What is coming into being)

Skuld (What shall be).
