I like the name Hjorprimul the best for the Sicaran of those you've listed with Verdandi a close second.

That said those painted details are just phenomenal. I've been doing a lot of freehand on my Space Wolf tanks but nothing that intricate, really gives me some inspiration to do something grander on my next project... whatever that happens to be.

Okay, this is the most extensive list of Valkyrie names I could find, I didn't realise that everyones favourite fantasy barbarian was named after a Valkyrie (look at the bottom of the list):

Sigh, I didnt get off the rig today, the sea between the rig and Aberdeen was too rough, so the helicopters wouldn't fly here :(

Better safe than sorry though.

Meant I got a little more time to do some painting, so I finished up the wolf on the other side. It is smaller and looks similar but different (head more pointed down and smaller over all) but I still really like it and will not be changing it, besides, it'll be a rare player who can see both wolves at the same time ;)

SAM 2414

I also painted the front section in black as well as the front track section too..

SAM 2415

Here is where I need help... The black sections, I had considered marking it up as Long Fangs, but in 30K do they even have Long Fangs? Heoroth was the oldest Wolf at that time and considered a Long Fang, but I have no idea of Space Wolf markings for that time.

The other thought was to do a Grey Hunter symbol, as they are known to drive tanks from time to time and it gives me a nice re spot colour, like on the Raptor

Third option is to keep it black, but mix things up by doing steel/ silver knotwork instead of gold. However I am getting nervous that the model will start to get a little "busy" if I keep adding more stuff to it.

What do you think

1. Black and white Long Fang markings?

2. Red and black Hunter markings?

3. Black background with steel knotwork?

Oh and Valkyrie names... I gave you the 3 names I like, I also posted this up in the Space Wolves forum also and got a few suggestions from the list.. But I want to open it up a bit more, so let me know what you think please?

Oh and thanks for the name suggestions.... Keep them coming in.

It's a relic, give it Long Fangs markings. As if the Iron Priests would trust the youngsters to a second relic after they way they treated Night Fury ;) You'd think Grey Hunters would know better.

As for the name, start with the meaning then pick the one you like the sound of. What meaning or description fits your Sicaran? What a name means is just as important as how it sounds to me so I get a little hung up on it.

Yes those pesky Blood Claws sure did a number on the Night Fury!! It's good that she is back in one piece.

With regards to the Sicaran, she is a hunter and a duellist, which is why I was thinking along the lines of

Geiravor (spear goddess)

Geirahod (spear battle)

Hjorprimul (sword warrioress or sword battle).

Randgrid or Randgridr (shield breaker),

With a preference to the first 3,

Shield breaker could be a Vindcator or Typhon

Herja, a Fellblade (devastation) It is a good pwerful name, just not sure if it would suit a Sicaran, when she s more a precision weapon.

Reginleif or Sanngrior a Knight (daughter of Gods or in the case of some Knight, cruel & violent)

Togn (silence) is a good name for a hunter too :)

I also like the norn names, because the can have several meanings to the WOlves themselves. The first name could be in reflection of what the legion once was , the second is what they are now, a shadow of their former glory, but still powerful and majestic nonetheless, or the what will be, The bright hope for the Chapter.

Loks like the name will have to squeeze in above the runeshields on the flanks.

Will have to sleep on it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sorry for being away for quite a while, I got off the rig and Real life sort of took over in a big way.

By now I am hoping you are used to my cyclical postings. Basically I do 90% of my hobby work at well work (go figure!!)

I did ask the question elsewhere, and Togn kept coming up. While I like Geiravor and Hjorprimul. Togn "Silence" will be easier to spell and with those extended autocannons, I can imagine her as a hunter/ sniper.

Silence stalked the battlefield and after claiming her prey from afar, silence was all that was left....

Okay, moving on. I tried to get her finished up for the Solstice Advance and got her to a finished state which I am fairly happy with. I daesay I will come bak to her to tidy up the shading/ highlights and get rid of the decal on the hatch, but otherwise for now, she is ready to hunt

Oh and she needs her Runic name added..

I am a bit burned out on grey, so the plan is to work on a side project and do some sculpty modelling and try to finish up some shields, heads etc to finally get my termies done.

However here is a sneaky look at my side project

Can you guess what it is yet??

Ah, don't worry FenWolf, you'll get there... The joy of work for me is the downtime at the end of it.

Moogs: and army shot, hmmm... are we talking the whole enchilada, or the more recent army stuff which has been for the 30K crossover (mech grey stuff)??

I can arrange a shot of the Sicaran with the Raptor and termies no problem.... I still have the Spartan to build and paint too!! And I want a ton of FW assault marines...

Vyk: Thanks for the praise on the Sicaran, it was a nice model to paint, once the construction was done....

Not much news, apart from Tamiya masking tape is Ace!! My Acheron has a name "Serpent's Breath" I considered Wyrm's breath, but I want a Nors-ishname without it being too in-your-face.

I am expermenting withthe leg armour, I am going to do it half red and half black, I just started it and got a case of the "Han Solo's" (I got a bad feeling about this...) Still you live and learn, and we shall see how it turns out eh??

In the black half I will do a red serpent, or dragon and on the red half I an cosidering a skull with a crown plus a sword or axe.

Not sure if I should do the items in the red half in a bone colour or in black... Your thoughts on this??

Edited by dantay_xv

Minor progress,

The Knight which will soon walk has a name, she is called Serpents Breath, after the sword used by Uhtred Uhtredsson, or Uhtred Ragnarsson in the books by Bernard Cornwell...

From the House Morhain dubbed "The Black Knights"

Now I just need to create a house symbol :wacko.:

So, my minor progress....

Got the personal heraldry nailed down now, and have moved on to putting on to the pauldron.
I have also run a dirty great piece of rod between the upper and lower halves so I can paint it easily, but also get to posing it.

I messed up the legs a little but I have a plan for that.

What do you think so far??

Well the plan was to use the mis-cast knight side as some debris, A kill for the "executioner" which he is stamping on... Thinking a dead/dying Knight Titan pilot under the wreckage being squeezed to death by Serpent's Breath.

So I built the leg and raised it up, but something went wrong and when I put the back leg on it was shorter than the stompy leg :blink.:

The backleg is raised on a bit of clear plastic just now, but my plan now is to put the debris into a crater made from its own demise and have the rear leg on a raised ground level to stop it looking so odd.

If you mean the serpent symbol then that was VOODOO!! :tongue.:

Ok- so i was looking through the list and just wanted to add a few things for reference. When you see something like "wand" it refers more to a magical spear then a harry potter wand. Magic, or seidr (the d is a thorn- a d with a line through the stem and is pronounced 'th' rather then d), is a little wanky in the norse culture. Poetry often went hand-in-hand with magic and knowledge. It is why so many Vikings were actually literate- as they were warriors poets.

Brunhild relates to the old german story of Sigfried- which is a very very similar story in norse culture.

Each valkyrie name is symbolic for something. The norse mythology is outlined in the 'Poetic Edda' or the 'Elder Edda'. The norse culture is laid out in 'The Icelandic Sagas'. If you want- look up the Saga of Egil Skallagimson--- he is a very famous hero to the icelandic people. It outlines the life of a viking and the required honor of such a title.

Yep, you're spot-on Vykryl, it is one of the designs from the vehicle gallery I had set up while looking at symbols for Night Fury... I Had considered trying to go uber detailed and try to draw in the scales etc.... However I like the relative simplicity of the serpent and by over-egging it I could ruin a perfectly good motif..

Hi Skallagoose. Thanks for the tips on the Valkyries and pronunciations.

The Edda;s are something I have been meaning to read for a long time. I have to admit that while I like Norse mythology, a lot has been learned from the internet. I have heard of Egil Skallagrimmson and plan to name a rune priest after him.

I am aware from research that The Valkyries are never documented as using the weapons which they carried, but I do like the idea of the watching over the warriors and choosing which path they take upon death....

My idea for my vehicles and support is to name them after the valkyries, because many of the vehicles such as the flyers and artillery/ tanks are there to watch over Russ' fighting men, plus I seem to refer to them as "her" a lot. I hope that while this maybe wasn't what Valkyries did per se, I hope that by using their names I do not give offence.

Would a name such as Togn (Silence) be apt for a hunter? Or have I used the name completely out of context??

Nope, that camera was assigned to the bin.

I am using the departments old camera. Bad pictures could be due to my shaky hands :D

Not much progress to report for now.

Ballsed up the house symbol and left ripply marks on the shoulder guard which means it may need stripping in a fairy bath I'll give it 1 more go and if it gets cocked up again, its bath time.

However I did make a wee bit of headway on the leg.
