The Redeemers ~ Black Maru's Order of Redemption

Orks are such a good army to face (and play!) you just feel like the time is ticking until they crash with your lines and they're just plain "fun" !

It's a shame these days something like a Knight can just end an Ork armies entire day - I'm hoping myself they'll get an incredible Decurion and a bigger league of Warboss.

Charging DC into Orks will never get old.

Well, now I'm in trouble.

My last game will be this Wednesday and it's against Eldar.
I've been lucky enough to mostly avoid the pointy-eared cheese-mongers, but it seems my luck has run out.

In fairness, my opponent Martin is a really great guy who generally steers away from the uber-nasty lists. He also really knows his stuff, so even without the Wraithknights he is still a force to be reckoned with.

I'm building my list around the following factors:

  • I know he isnt bringing a Wraithknight. - I wont be wasting points on grav bikes / etc as these will be redundant against his 3+ / 4+ sv guys.
  • He often brings Dark Eldar allies for their cheap transports- I'll be bringing flamers in pods to make a mess of his opentopped transports
  • He ALWAYS takes Jet-bikes. - Sicarian for the win! 6 shots, killing on 2's with no armour or Jink saves.
  • His HQ is usually the nasty psyker guy (Farseer?) - I'll be taking my Librarian to give me a few extra denial dice.
  • He often uses Warp Spiders. - I'm not taking many vehicles / Dreads as he always wrecks them with his stupid all-melta Warp Spiders
  • He likes Wave Serpants but usually only takes 1 - I'll be taking 2 meltacide squads to (hopfully) mess up his tank as quickly as possible.
  • He likes to go for the kill, prefering to table his opponent rather than play for objectives - I'll be taking 2 squads of camo-scouts. Hide at the back in cover to reduce my chances of gettign tabled.
  • He doesnt have much Anti-air - I'll be taking an empty Storm Raven to fly about and be a pain in the arse. Another unit to reduce my chances of getting tabled.

The List looks somthing like this:

Librarian: Jump pack, Force Axe, ML2

7x Death Company: Jump Packs, Power Fist, Power Sword

Furioso: Drop pod, Heavy Flamer, Frag Cannon

5x Sniper Scouts: Camo Cloaks

5x Sniper Scouts; Camo Cloaks

5x Tac Squad; Drop Pod, Heavy Flamer, Combi-flamer

Storm Raven; Hurricane Bolters, Assault cannon, Multi-melta

Vindicator: Overcharged Engines, Seige Shield, Storm Bolter

Sicarian: Accelerator Auto-cannon, Heavy Bolter

On a scale of 1 to Armageddon, how screwed am I?

Fire dragons or warp spiders? Dragon have melt (and plus 3 to the damage chart) warp spiders have pseudo rending, wound against I (so generally 2+) and flicker jump everywhere...

If he is bringing Dark Eldar allies he is no scatter deep striking Fire Dragons behind your tanks to blow them away. Or no scatter deep striking Wraithguard to d scythe everything to death.

If he plays a lot of bikes and he knows what he is doing? Theb don't expect to charge them. Ever. They are too fast to get.

Farseers are for buffing not attacking. If he spams the warlocks a lvl 2 isn't really going to help

I meant Fire Dragons, God I hate them so much. >_< He will certainly be deep strking them to get my tanks. I've got to keep them in cover and very far apart.

I'm not expecting to charge the bikes, I want to try and scare them with my deep striking flamers, forcing them into a position when I can shoot them to bits with my Sicarian.

He usually takes a Farseer on foot and a Farseer on a bike, more often than not casting invisibility on everything. :(

My Librarian is more there to buff my own DC, but the extra Warp charges will be usefull too.

Jet bikes get saves against a sicaran. Don't ask my why but they are 3+.

Yeah...

They have a 3+ save?

Ugh. Thats fething disgusting.

I think your list looks good. Any way to up the tactical squad to 10 men though? They may not last long otherwise...

Jet bikes get saves against a sicaran. Don't ask my why but they are 3+.

Yeah...

I know you said don't ask, but... why??

Because for some reason an Eldar riding a paper Jet bike gives him power armour.

A scout riding a rugged ceramite bike keeps him at 4+. It's a legacy thing really, they've been 3+ for eons.

Dark eldar bikers are 5+ too. Just to keep it consistent of course.

I can sort of see the reasoning as the bikes are most likely made of wraithbone like everything else, e.g. As hard as a Wraithguard, but then again, they probably aren't.

I think your list looks good. Any way to up the tactical squad to 10 men though? They may not last long otherwise...

I wracked my brains trying to find some way to get the Tac squad up to 10 man, but I cant see anything else in the list I can drop without it really affecting the balance of the list.

Ideally I prefer to take full 10 man Tacticals in a Rhino with A Heavy flamer, flamer and combi-flamer.

That was fething terrible!

I knew Eldar had a bad rep, and I hate to sound like a broken record, but what the heck GW!?

So, it will come as no surprise that I wasnt expecting to win this game, but I never expected to get stomped quite so badly.

The frustrating thing was, he didnt even take an especialy hardcore list, He had one Wraithguard, one Fire prism, 5 Fire Dragons, 5 Dark Reapers, 5 regular guardian guys, a big AV 10 hoverbike looking thing, an AV10 flyer and then loadss of bikes.

In fairness to the Eldar, my rolling was fething disgracful, my reserves all failed until turn 3, My psyker rolled perils of the warp twice and died, my Meltacide squads totally whiffed (although did eventually manage to blow up the Fire Prism, taking 3 of my own guys down in the explosion.) Both flamer squads totally whiffed, only managing to kill 3 fire dragons and 4 Dark reapers before getting hosed down. My Vindicator scattered all 3 of its blasts before getting blown up and even my beloved Sicarian only managed to kill 2 jetbikes and about 3 Guardians before going up in flames.

Even my cards were against me, drawing nothing but "domination" or that one where your opponent picks the objectives for you to score.

My opponent is a really great guy and felt bad for my terrible rolling, but that was the first game I've had in ages that was just no fun at all. :(

The Six Up Save league has now officially ended and the scores are:

Chaos = 65 points

Xenos = 64 points

Imperium = 63

I cant beleive there was only 2 points between 1st and last place!

It's a shame I couldnt get the imperiums score up at the end but it's hard to feel too bad when the score was that close.

The game ended turn 5, 17- 2 to the Eldar and all I had left was 1 scout and a Storm Raven with 1 hullpoint left.

Bad luck mate - but it sounds like luck was exactly the problem, and it is no fun to feel like the dice gods are just laughing at you for the whole day... Still, at least the overall result was very close!

Out of interest, what did for the Sicaran?

What destroyed it?

His flyer (Crimson something?) blew it up.

I thought I was safe by parking behind it, but apparantly it has a much bigger turning radius than normal flyers.

Silly of me to assume anything in the Eldar codex follows any of the normal rules for movment or shooting. -_-

It seems like they have at least one unit that breaks every core rule in the core rules.

Dark Reapers are stupidly good, Warp Spiders and Fire Dragons can take on whole armies by themselves. :(

I've recently played a couple of games against the new Tau, contrary to popular opionion I find them much easier to deal with than Eldar.

You can charge pretty much any (non-superheavy) in the Tau codex and know it wont be doing anything for the rest of the game.

I find the Eldar can (for the most part) hold their own in combat.

  • 2 weeks later...

With the Back to basics tourney coming up fast, I decided to take a break from my 30K marines and paint somthing a bit special.

Behold, my HQ choice:

New chappy

Just need to flock the base and he's done.

Love the model and it was a joy to paint. :)

  • 4 months later...

Iliana leant forward toward the glass panel. Ignoring the black void of deep space on the other side of the window, she glared lazily at her reflection and used the tip of her needle pistol to scrape a layer of scum from her teeth. The trip to Ansellon had been a long and boring one, and Iliana hadn’t signed up for the Ordo Xenos because she liked long travels and paperwork.

The High Inquisitors for this sector had originally brought her twin brother, Inquisitor Pattan of the Ordo Hereticus to investigate the mysterious disappearances on the Hive World of Ansellon. After some of the more recent reports come from the governing bodies on the planet it was established that the planet had bigger issues than some would-be cultist, propaganda spreaders or rogue city guards. The most satisfying part of this job for Iliana wasn’t going to be the usual rush of adrenaline she got from hunting down and exterminating her alien quarry; the real joy of this job was knowing how irritated her brother would be knowing she would be finishing a job that he hadn’t been deemed suitable for. It wasn’t that she disliked her brother, but Inquisitor Pattan was less of a “shoot now and ask questions later” kind of person and more of a “do the paperwork now, ask the questions, torture, maim and then do more paperwork” kind of person. His reputation for bureaucracy and gleeful sadism and earned him the nickname “The Watcher”.

Iliana’s mighty cruiser “The Chu’k-Noras” was a hodgepodge of different imperial cruisers and xenos tech all bashed together, giving those who observed it the same impression as they would have for Iliana herself: sleek but unkempt. Her naturally delicate features and strong cheekbones were marred by pale scars and bruises. Her long flowing hair would be the envy of an Eldar Princess, had it not been left greasy and un-brushed.

She strode across her quarters and jabbed the vox button with her slender index finger.

“Pilot, how long until we arrive?”

“We have already been cleared for arrival, Inquisitor. We will be landing within the next hour”

“You aren’t my regular pilot, what happened to old what’s-his-face... the last one?”

“You had him fired out the airlock, Inquisitor.” The pilot responded in a deadpan voice.

“Oh, that’s right. The one whose bumpy take off made me spill my soup. ” Muttered Ileana, tutting under her breath. “He was my favourite too”. She added half heartedly.

“Yes Inquisitor.”

“So who are you?”

“Officer Krispycreme, Inquisitor.”

“Very good. See that we arrive without too much turbulence would you?”

“Absolutely Inquisitor.”

“Oh, and Krispycreme?”

“Yes Inquisitor?”

“Your name is too silly, change it immediately.”

There was a brief pause, followed by a very meek “Yes Inquisitor.”

The Inquisitor sank into her chair and gazed lazily around her living quarters. She smiled to herself as she drew focus on her trophy collection; tokens and trinkets from her various missions across the Emperor’s colossal domain. The Ceremonial robe of an Eldar Farseer, A sullied purity seal from a Chaos Priest and her personal favourite, the Legendary Harpoon of Korath she used to single handedly destroy a Tau Riptide. That was a battle she would never forget, and the scampi she made from the Riptide Pilot made the victory all the sweeter.

She supposed that she should at least read over her mission dossier before she got to work, so she reached into her cloak and unfolded the holo-scroll.

Mission Handler ---- OSCAR_BUMCHIN_BEUROCRAT_GRADE#4

Location: Hive planet #43567 “Ansellon”.

Mission Brief:

Inquisitor Iliana Nailo is to make planet fall and make contact with the mole we have established within the political ranks of Ansellon.

We believe the noble and political ranks of the capital city have been infiltrated by xenos sympathisers. It is our understanding that many of the high ranking political leaders have been brainwashed or replaced.

Under normal circumstances we would follow procedure and glass the entire planet, but there is one person of interest that remains on the planet. The inquisition would like to “question” this individual before the planet is cleansed. For the moment, the person of interest is still believed to be loyal to the God Emperor and was originally placed on Ansellon as a spy agent.

We have sent encrypted messages to the mole to meet you in an abandoned cathedral west of the capital city. The mole has not made contact with us or reported back in over 8 months, so we are unaware if the mole will be at the site or even if he is still alive.

You are to rendezvous with the mole and see what information he has gleaned about the cult. You are then to ensure his immediate detainment. The informants name is [PLEASE TURN TO PAGE 2 OF THIS DOCUMENT]

Iliana flipped the scroll over and read the informants name.

Then she swore and threw the holo-scroll to the floor.

“For Feths sake! Of all the Emperor damned jobs in this whole fething universe, why do I always end up chasing that bastard!?” She shouted to no one in particular as she stormed out the room.

She was going to makes someone’s life a misery for this and she didn’t care whose it was.

Lying in the middle of the floor lay the damaged holo-scroll, its cracked screen flickering red text.
