Thanks for the kind comments. So, more from the Art of the Dynamic Chainfist...

gallery_83859_10637_149762.jpg

Here with have my second terminator armed with a chainfist. The final pose is slightly more lopsided than I intended but I'm happy enough. I've tried to convey he's cut the hinges off a bulkhead door, booted in, and then come through Volkite CHOOMing.

This top down phot is just to show some the detail on the bulkhead door, made by Zinge Industries. It even includes a plastic window for the porthole. Very impressed by them.

Today I've been tinkering with another terminator. I wanted to continue with the idea these terminators have the flexibility to carry out practical tasks, unlike the unwieldy mono-pose indomitus models of old. So, this legionary is mid-reloading.

I drilled out a Mk V helmet to have on the base, underfoot. I green stuffed a spent power pack discarded on the deck and a second one in his hand.

A view from the side to better show the empty magazine well on the Volkite charger, removed with clippers. You can see in this phot I've had to reposition his right leg to get it to sit right on top of the fallen helmet.

In this phot, I've removed his upper body so you can see the spare power packs. I clipped out the bottom left one and then drilled out the recess it would have sat in.

Thanks, Verux. In my head, these legionaries are lead by a no-nonsense Terran veteran whose only allowance for the knightly traditions of Caliban are the Deathwing daggers on their hips (and even then only because they can be used to stab someone in the throat). He sees the ornamentation of the Astartes (like by the Emperor's Children or the Word Bearers) as wasted effort at best and a foolish distraction at worst.

He doesn't view the Crusade as some honourable challenge or an art - just something simple and brutal. So, that's how he has his men armed and armoured.

Plus, CHOOM is cool.

Very happy with the latest terminator.

Here he is from the front. Think the empty helmet turned out quite well.

gallery_83859_10637_146031.jpg

And from the side. Here you can see the mag-pouch-cum-charging-point where he's drawn a fresh power pack a bit better. You can also see a bit more of a vanquished Night Lord's helmet. Think the Mk V suits them quite well.

gallery_83859_10637_96898.jpg

On the back, I put a mag-locked power sword locked in horizontally.

gallery_83859_10637_439498.jpg

Next to the first one I painted up, hopefully it shows how they'd work in a scrap. The terminator would happily CHOOM away with one hand and hack enemies apart with the other. When needed, the terminator would lock his sword away, reload a new power pack (replacing it with the spent one to charge it if possible), and then carry on turning people to ash.

Been chipping away at another couple of terminators. As a bit of a break, though, I've come up with something a little different:

This Watcher in the Dark might go on the base of a librarian. He'll need his hands free for the most part, so his little friend will bimble around with his Volkite for him.

Started work on the Librarian.

gallery_83859_10637_525572.jpg

Whilst it isn't a legal option by LCAL, I think a psychic hood is a visually definitive part of a librarian's wargear. Whilst I like the torso on the Tartaros terminator, moulding a psychic hood above the armoured gorget would've looked a bit too busy. So, I took a GK terminator torso and filed it down so it wasn't so bulky. A bit of green stuff rounded off the collar.

I think a librarian would need to be more aware of his surroundings than other terminators, to be better attune his senses, so would trade off protection for situational awareness. So, I used a Death Shroud terminator's helmet for the large t-shaped visor. I green stuffed a ridge to the top to make it more visually similar to the other terminators.

gallery_83859_10637_8517.jpg

As the rest of the terminators are armed with GK force weapons, I used a Empire battle mage's sword to represent his force weapon to make him stand out. His little helper carries Volkite charger.

Absolutely stunning work. I may have to pirate bits and pieces of the rough and tumble look for my Istvaan Night Lords. And in all honesty, you've given me an entirely new perspective on those tartaros kits, they've only been good to me as basing material / dead iron warriors (Loyalist of course)

Congratulations, I think you've now sold me on tartaros, a pattern that I originally disliked incredibly, due to the forgeworld figures. I really like how dynamic they feel next to cataprachtii. It'll suit my night lords.

I'm liking that librarian as well, love the idea of using a deathshroud helmet and the empire sword!

I am intrigued by the watcher. I hope that the fluff shows when they started to follow selected Dark Angels, as they are actively seen doing so in 40k but in 30k they were a distant myth from the time before the great hunt.

Beitiful work on these models, and the painting brings the posing to life.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Glad other people are feeling the Tartaros love, even from those of the VIII! I've tinkered with mine and filed off all the studs and bits of ornamentation but I think some of that might work well on Night Lords. I'd like to see how other people convert their Tartaros, even if it's adding the First to decorate their bases...

So, the Librarian. Quite happy with how he turned out, as I wasn't sure how well the converted GK body would look with a lick of paint. The sword took a couple of goes to get to somewhere I was happy with as, originally, I had something more eldritch in mind. Then I thought, 'fire is always cool.'

After a bit of thought, I moved the watcher onto his base. I like the image here, of the watcher being small and unobtrusive but close enough to 'whisper' unheard by anyone else. I left the rest of the base bare so it didn't look too cluttered with both models.

gallery_83859_10637_717343.jpg

From this angle you can have a better look at the painted torso. I like from how this angle the watcher is out of sight.

gallery_83859_10637_520974.jpg

From the rear. Without loads of power couplings etc, the GK back is a bit more straight forward to paint than the normal Tartoros. I picked out nodes on the psychic hood in the same red as on the shoulder emblems to keep the colours tied together.

gallery_83859_10637_85803.jpg

Next to a regular terminator. I left him in the same colour scheme as the rest of the Legion as I think it's daft for a librarian to make themselves stand out in a big blue suit. I think the conversion and paint work is just enough to distinguish him as being a specialist whilst, at the same time, still fitting in with the rest of the models I've done.

Wow, that was quick!

Turned out great, and I agree with keeping him in the same livery as the rest. Also, post-Nikea, it'd make sense to put Librarians back in regular colours, and just "forget" to check up on their usage of force-powers :D

Absolutely phenomenal. I love tartaros armour, and it's great to see so many inspiring things being done with it. Those GK swords look superb, they were a really excellent choice.

Nice to see some Thramas (I assume) action as well!

Once again, thanks for all the kind comments gents. The models themselves are a lot of fun to put together and a lot of my creativity comes from the flexibility of the kit.

A Kvlt Ghost: The GK bits work with the Tartaros models without much fussing around. I like the idea that all the hi-tech kit the GKs have in 40k were once common issue to the Legions in 30k. Before it all got lost, burned, or hoarded away on Mars.

helterskelter: Glad you like them, bud.

Great looking libarian. Really luv him. Where is his head from by the way?

More of the boys in black.

Finished a second plasma cannon/blaster gunner and another squad sergeant. The 'running' legs are my least favourite in the set as they are quite narrow from the front. I warmed them up in hot water and widened the gait to better get his charging pose.

The horde as it stands: two five man teams, the Praetor, and the Librarian. With a little reinforcement, the bulk of a 1000pts ZM force.

Speaking of reinforcement:
