GhostMalone
Ahhh I actually had that happen on the second raptor, I found that if you lock time both halves into place as you connect it to the side it also removes any warping. It's fiddley but it works. And the reason I do these reviews is to help out any and every hobbyist Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/6/#findComment-4145347 Share on other sites

Kriegriss
quick question Kurama, do you think it is possible to build the fire raptor in a way that i could magnetize the weapon ball things and back ramp so as i could have a storm eagle as well and then i can change between the two or is there integral pieces missing in the kit Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/6/#findComment-4145814 Share on other sites
GhostMalone
The sides of the Fire raptor could be magnetize if you were to use the Deimos Pattern Rhino hatches but it would require a lot and I mean a lot of planning out. Not impossible it's just one of those ideas that requires a fair bit of effort. The back ramp really doesn't have much space to add magnets, but I'll pick up a storm Eagle next and I'll do a comparison for you as im curious now Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/6/#findComment-4145898 Share on other sites
Slips
I think the main difficulty in using a Fire Raptor as a Storm Eagle is the lack of a Front Ramp. I thought before the end of the Horus Heresy we will most likely see a 3rd and final copy of the collected visions so I decided to do a quick comparison and surprisingly enough it seems the production quality from over a decade ago is on par with our modern day equivalent. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163627_zpsgmjcpg9o.jpgas you can see just from the slipcase and dust covers we've come along way in adding that extra touch of quality.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163648_zpswmafipx1.jpgWith the expansion of extra lore and detail the newest version was split into two volumes, one must think at the end of this story will the 3rd edition have 3 or 4 books?http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163707_zpsqbhhh7tq.jpgThe black backing is a good indicator that maybe forgeworld were doing their collective homework on what us collectors were after.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163735_zpsz3934kmt.jpgThe eye of horus has evolved since it's first appearance in the series.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-09_16.51.06_zpspc33ohsm.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-09_16.52.15_zpscjr2mxeg.jpga nice comparison of how far we've come detail wise compared to the old index astrates artwork.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163952_zpsu5tacp3z.jpgone of the first Horus heresy short stories found in the original collected visions. Check it out if you haven't read it, it's available in e-book on the black library website.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_163910_zps70kcj29g.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_164036_zpsfqhokfrx_edit_1455000404902_zpsi3e5fgpd.jpgThe format is the same just with more in depth explanations in lore, events and things such as warp travel, astrates transition and such. All in all I love these books both copies, they are full of inspiration and if you manage to find one on ebay it's well worth the cash drop. My only gripe with the newest version is the missing metal corner clasps but really if that's the worst thing I found I'm a pretty petty nerd. Today we will be taking a sneak peak at that beautiful forgeworld book that is Tempest! (Shock horror). So what can I say for an overview? Well this bad boy contains the atrocity of calth, info on the realm of Ultamar and of course rules for the dastardly warlord titan (which every single person in the world wants.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_164643_zpstsponmsx.jpgBook V in all its glory, I never cease to swoon over the Forgeworld rulebooks, their quality is something I wish the mainstream 40k community could appreciate, the smell of these books is addictive and tends to lead to some form of psychosis.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160209_164649_zpsyufejvc5.jpgeven the inner cover screams (you know you wanna drop some serious cash). Sothalor
Wow I am so insanely jealous of the condition of your Fire Raptor kit. My bottom hull piece looked like a recurve bow out of the bag while both fuselage side pieces were warped more than 45 degrees along the length of their axis, and the ball turret autocannon barrels were so warped the only thing they'd have been shooting was the plane fuselage! GhostMalone
@amelancholicsanguinity- the great thing with Forgeworld is that they rectify any casting process issues and usually are great at replacing bitz if they're shoddy. But seeing firsthand there facilities I can vouch they rarely let a bad kit out most kits may need to be played with to fit but with the demand they're under the occasional bad egg makes it through. @Hengistironfang- thanks buddy I've got another 20 model kit reviews to post it's just finding the time to do it as I went off the radar for a while. And don't threat I don't ruin the plots on the novels unless they're horrid abortions of literature. I'll get more up soon just got a massive backlog. Once again forgeworld have a great casting process that rarely fails.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.39.13_zpsf9b3pytn.jpgweapon options are great but I think I'll hold off on choosing until the wolves get there full rules released as there may be other Legion specific options to choose.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.39.31_zpso8cu7fm2.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.39.48_zpscue8h2ix.jpgand finally the legs and waist, no casting issues and as always great quality. So what do I think about the Deredeo? I think it is a great kit and will be a blast to build so hopefully I can come up with a decent pose on this bad boy. And surprisingly enough no warpage considering the Anvilus Pattern Autocannon option I've previously re I ever was.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.29.57_zpsb9bfng0z.jpgand the lower plasma rail for the Canonade. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.30.15_zpsjzjvoxdg.jpgpower cables are cast really well, I'm hoping that I won't need to bend it too much as the resin isn't that thick towards the multiple power cords.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.31.01_zpsvqbmj4au.jpgThe arm sockets, well I'm trying to decide whether or not I should magnetize these for transportation so I'll consider drilling the ball socket out.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.31.27_zps3kxzze2h.jpgand the plasma power pack hopper, pretty stocked with the quality of these two.So yeah great weapon option and should be fun to compare against the Autocannon option. Here's another option for the Deredeo. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.31.54_zps4rj1ypxo.jpgLuckily enough you get some guidance for this weapon option from the main Deredeo instructions. If you haven't got them or lost them you can reference my Deredeo post for a copy.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.32.20_zps9ctisx9b.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.32.48_zpspl2nxxk2.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.33.09_zpsjvkx3reb.jpgso the main missile housing is a highly detailed Piece of resin, with plenty of vents this bad boy should definitely be painted prior to assembly.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.34.19_zpsmwxdtnnh.jpgThe housing for the optics and the main point for pivoting and movement (yeah this kit has like 5 parts to it so sorry there's not much more to expand upon)http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.34.45_zpsl4664qbo.jpgThe optics I strongly recommended that this whole kit is painted prior to assembly.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.35.15_zpsnkomm28p.jpgand finally the missile front plates, it's great to have a load of them as drilling some out will give it a great realistic effect. So that's it for that one, my next Review will be recon marines (as I received 20 of them) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307114-kurama-reviews-the-horus-heresy-series-and-products/page/6/#findComment-4310213 Share on other sites

Why the story of a man who bought 20 reconnaissance marines. Yes that's right 20 god damn recon marines.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.40.26_zpsr4w2nolo.jpgbut fortunately enough I will only be reviewing one bag so as to not bore you with repetitiveness. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.40.05_zpssjvpg50y.jpgso standard protocol, bag arrived here in Australia with barely any damages to the contents, the box it arrived in though wasn't as lucky.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.40.53_zpsc5fwphi2.jpgminor flash on the weapons but no warping, breakages or lack of detailing.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.41.16_zps6byttsvu.jpgThe backpacks on the other hand ohh boi! Now there's a fair bit of flash from the casting process but I'm sure it will clean up nicely, I'll be keeping some gap filling material on hand for any damages after clean up.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.41.38_zpse2amfbdg.jpgShoulder Pads aren't broken from the sprue so I'm happy I won't have to rebuild any breakage. (Great stuff forgeworld keep up that bubble packaging)http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.42.02_zpsdokiuyuf.jpghelms are great but I'm thinking I'll add them to the belts give some bare heads maybe with cammo streaking over the bare faces for variation. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.42.24_zpsdqlrslrh.jpgno real issue with the extras either, but I'll need more grenades to kit them all out.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.42.42_zpsbntd6veo.jpgThe bodies have minor flash but are nice and crisp, I only wish for variation sake they released another set of recons for extra posing.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/2016-02-18%2016.43.01_zpsbkiwwune.jpgand finally the other arms, the only damages through transit but as they go under the Pauldron no one will notice the missing chunk of resin from the shoulder joints. So recon marines... what to say they look great they smell great hell if you payed me I'd eat one and tell you if it tastes great! But in all seriousness these are great models and one of my favourite sculpts next to the MkIV destroyers and MkIII Armour. But now I must say people please for the love of god wash and clean up your resin, I don't know how many times I've seen people ask why paint flakes off or beads when airbrushed. There is a mold release agent so washing in Luke warm water with detergent helps remove this chemical, also note not every model is cast perfectly so remove flashing mould lines etc and ensure you dry fit, im sorry to repeat all this but it seems to be one of those questions that I read daily on forums net wide.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/b0d5eea077348e7a7de2d8e8e452dc7f_zpsyebfafi5.gifhttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_163901_zpsvijyqzen.jpgSo first off I removed all the pieces from the gates, gave it a quick wash and removed excess flashing and tried to remove as many mould lines as I could. Now with that done I decided to move onto dry fitting. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_164327_zpsz85ef8dc.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_164336_zpsmxbbfpap.jpg http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_164345_zpswsg0kdqx.jpgnow I decided to just test and dry fit the legs without the torso (make sure to look at every angle just to ensure your happy with the posing) once I was pleased I simply removed the blue tac and slowly glued the components to mimic the dry fit.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_165546_zpsexhxbw17.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_170518_zpsvpik6qxt.jpgonce it was dry I attached the torso and moved it around to get the right angle for the effect I was after, once I was happy I ensured that it was locked into place with enough glue to build 5 titans!http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_170621_zpsxjku0eqk.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_171313_zpsnexctob0.jpgnext up I simply added the engine exhausts followed by the knee pad plating.http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_171656_zpsutcsrjmb.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_171709_zps5n1muelk.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_171719_zpsn7lig0lo.jpghttp://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/y524/Taron_James_Beer/Mobile%20Uploads/20160219_171736_zpsonkhfsbc.jpgI then attached my weapon options for the torso, after much tooing and froing I went for the heavy flamers, I then angled and glued in the head.Following this I decided to check the posing which I'm happy with at this point in time, in the next Review I have to build the weapon options and will have the finished product and a comparison next to my first Deredeo and how the posing doesn't have to be static.
