Honestly, I'm not really feeling the head or shield. The head looks way too small and the shield just looks like an afterthought. Not trying to rain on your parade or anything, but I think you could convey the interred's former position simply through scheme and transfers. Barring that, if you had access to a Shield from an Iron Circle Domitar, perhaps or even shatter the shield and have a halve chained on his arm. It looks too pristine, at the very least.

Other than that, I love the pose of the Leviathan. That Consul is the titays too!

Must have ninjaed me when I was writing the other reply. Thanks for the feedback, I anticipated at least one person would dislike the head, I think it's a Marmite thing (e.g. you love it or hate it). I agree with you on the transfer point. However I rather like the head - the shield thing I will think about though, having shattered remnants mag-locked/chained to his shell is a cool idea. Will give it some thought. Cheers man!

At the risk of being the dissenting voice I think that the helm and shield were perfect additions, and added to the narrative for your force that you are crafting. The wounded Astartes being interned in the shell of a waiting Leviathan and being pressed into service almost immediately because of the gravity of events. This would leave the Legion's artificer's little time for ornamentation as their craft is now focused on getting weapons to the front lines as quickly as possible rather than decorations. Their only indulgences with this iron form being the use of the Legionnaire's helm and the shield that he bore in life to honor his sacrifices.

I was also going to suggest the Custodes standard as decoration for the leviathan, but the one you ended up using is even better. That looks really wonderful!

On an unrelated note - I think you forgot to build a copula around the guy on the left rhino. I don't mean to be overtly critical, but without the copula around his upper body, it looks as like someone cut him in half and stuck his armless upper body on top of the rhino - which is exactly what the bit is. There's no space around him to convey what's meant to be conveyed, so what's conveyed is this is a plastic miniature with that bit stuck on top it without thought. To me, the suspension of disbelief of that bit is completely destroyed without a copula.... which is a shame, as the rest of your force looks so well-thought through, modelling-wise, and it's painted to a most enviable standard.

thanks for the info on the trim, i love this force and might be using some of the ideas for my ZM/fleet based force. love the leviathan too - which head did you use?

one final question for now, but where are those raider dozers from?

great work mate, glad to see more updates

Loving the progress that you've made with these. Giving the boys in blue some lovely character

I'd bin the ptruges on the leviathan to be honest - they're too small so they're not really doing anything. I think they could be an awesome addition if you made them leviathan sized, i.e. Large enough to hang between mid-thigh and the knee joint, but otherwise they look out of place IMO.

Thanks very much for the feedback, all! Great to get constructive criticism in particular, really good to hear what I could be doing better.

I like the Leviathan, I think you have just the right amount of bling, especially if your going to be adding transfers.

I really like the blue and black scheme, it works really well. I think this is the best Ultramarine army I've seen.

I think I'm happy with the bling level too. Let's see how it comes out once painted and given transfers. Thanks for the kind words, man - big fan of your work so it means a great deal to hear that, thanks!

That's no moon... That's a Chaplain!

Oh, I think your lads deserve the upgrade, the Black One Hundred strike me as the desperately tenacious sort, any one of them might well be the equal of a Veteran from any other Company, considering what they´re put through!

Fine work on the Rhinos. Nasty surprise for most enemies I reckon!

Cheers Pheidias. I think there's an argument for veteran status too, just not in the decorated sense of the rest of the Legion. Good eye on the Chaplain

Some amazing stuff! Do my eyes spy a chaplain in the middle of that picture?

Yes sir! I went with the title 'Master of Discipline' - there's already a Master of Signal, and a Master of Discipline seemed a more fitting title for the Black One Hundred. Fluff to follow.

LOVE IT! I love these group shots as everything is just eye candy! Also, seeing them grouped together sends a real "don't :censored: with those hombres" vibe very well.

Thanks mate!

gorgeous work brother

Cheers brother, glad you like.

I like your reasoning a lot, and would have gone with it had I not decided upon an almost opposing reason for the ornamentation - simply put, in my head, the pilot of the ironform was a Suzerain in Orfeo's comitatus and died an ignoble death on Armatura, retreating before the enemy without his shield. Having failed to protect Orfeo and failed to die a warrior's death, he's interred in a Leviathan - an unstable ironform that always guarantees death for the pilot, whether through mental degradation or battlefield destruction - he has his shield mag-locked and ceremonially chained to his casket in order that, once the day of his death comes, he might die with a shred of the honour he ought to have displayed when first he fell on Armatura.

By far my favorite Ultramarines army- the black and blue scheme is just awesome.  As is the whole story you've put together for these guys.

Huge praise dude. Thanks very much.

Cheers mate - and thanks especially for the detailed criticism, I really appreciate it, this is how I improve. I think you are absolutely right, and the funny thing is you already made this comment once months ago on this thread - I forgot to address it at the time, but on the Rhino pictured, the sandbags glued to the hull actually prevent a cupola being placed there (my original reasoning for cutting out the cupola, I think).

Luckily, the cupola bits on both Rhinos are not glued, so are fully transposable - I'll simply move the driver bit to the other Rhino and attach a cupola there instead. The original Rhino can receive a radar upgrade or something to fill the gap. Cheers for the comment mate.

Much appreciated millest! Glad to hear you like the Suzerain Leviathan  It's a Suzerain head, as you may have guessed. The Land Raider's dozer blades are from Kromlech.eu - you can find them on their shop on eBay if interested.

Cheers BB. As stated, huge fan of what you are doing with the Evocatii. Between us we embody the best and worst of our Legion it seems :smile.: I will have a think about the pteruges - they actually work for me, but if they look silly once painted I can remove them fairly easily I think.

From start to finish I have to say some of the best model posing ive seen in a while, everything looks natural which is great.

Cheers Noctem. Honoured by your praise, hope you continue to be impressed.

Oops wrong thread!

Lovely models tho

That's just being a tease

In lieu of another update, for now, quick snap of a game recently vs. IV Legion:

That makes a lot of sense, and my apologies if I missed that piece of background. The shield piece sounds very Spartan, the notion that the loss of your shield was unacceptable and that the only acceptable outcome of a battle was that you came back with your shield or on it.

These Ultras are so cool! I've been hanging around since the beginning and I love seeing new updates. The detail you put into each model is great and your characters are awesome!

Keep up the good work, and I'll keep marvelling at your minis.

No worries mate, I appreciate hearing different ideas - I really liked yours, I just went with a darker concept as these guys are not the heroes the XIII are meant to be.

Thanks a lot! Kind of you to give the feedback :)

These are just getting better and better every time I pop in. Well done Arkham, you should be proud.

Cheers mate! Always good to hear from you. You relocated over the pond yet? Shame we didn't manage to get that game at WHW in.

Here's something just to test the waters a little - not Ultramarines, but for something else I'm pondering. Any guesses as to what it is are welcome.

The sword is too Kopesh like to be a tulwar, so it rules out the White Scars in my mind/ the cloak/pet o the back made me think Space Wold with a stolen weapon but again the mark 6 makes me think not.

I want to say, Thousand Son, but I will go with Alpha Legion

I'm liking the new guy. He's totally a Space Dothraki! :p

I haven't yet, I'm in the process of getting the last bits of my visa done. I'm gonna try and get the rest of my pads and bases on my minis then hit WHW. A bunch of my mates are getting into 30k too and want to do an exodus up there for a big game day.

Very cool weapon conversion brother!

The eaglehead on the pommel fits the blade very well.

Let me guess: the blade is from tomb kings, right? :)

I know I'm late with this comment on the leviathan. For the tabard. Have you consider removing the small one and replacing it with chains that dangle? Maybe use the ultima banner tops from the space marine command squad kit? I think it would make him a bit more foreboding. Just a thought.

Like the Mk6 marine. Smooth posing, very natural as always.

are we looking at one of the sigillites Knight Errants there? hope so :biggrin.:

Sword says Thousand Sons, but the armor says Alpha Legion or Raven Guard. Riddles over riddles :biggrin.:

Well, considering there's a Raven Guard symbol on the backpack...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Raven Guard

Great answers, all have a little truth in them - but none are quite bang on yet! He's part of a squad with fairly mish-mash weaponry and armour, that should help ;)

The sword is indeed from Tomb Kings (the old chariot, if memory serves). Jimbo, I tried a version with chains in various places before I took any pics and it looked overwrought for XIII Legion (even for these guys) - I will paint it up and see how it looks. It's definitely a tad small but I don't like the skirt effect tabards can sometimes have. We'll see how it looks, maybe I'll eat my words.
