A Lesser Son of Greater Fathers: Dabbling in Epic

Recommended Posts

Lovely fluff as always Arkhan. For the pose, my suggestion would be a roaring rage into the sky. Arms out, knees slights bent with the back curved slightly back with head towards the sky.

Only a thought, the pose he's in now looks more like it should be in the XII.

Cheers mate! I've tweaked the pose a little but it's still running - I found it much easier to repose the Calth Contemptor to run rather than anything else. I like your idea though, might save it for a future Contemptor (you know, once you've done one you can't stop there...)

And the berserker thing was a little intentional - there really isn't much left of Diocletian, and what remains within his shattered skull is not conducive to the finer aspects of strategy or tactics. He's lost to the madness of ironform entombment.

Thosd Rapier batteries are badass!! Are they built entirely from the Kataphron (or whatever theyre called) Mechanicum kit? The tracked heavy weapon guys.

That Contemptor is also looking brutal.

Thanks fella, yes they're entirely from the Kataphron kit. I highly recommend the kit as it's thirty quid for (basically) three Rapiers and a ton of extra bits to do whatever you like with.

Fantastic pose on the Contemptor -- I think the fact that he seems like a XII legion madman is really rather deliciously ironic, given the whole matter of Armatura. The background piece is also excellent, as usual!

Exactly, I wanted a little dark irony in Diocletian's return to service. A hero of the Legion brought low by the machine used to prolong his service, now no better than the screaming madmen who were once his brothers now rampaging across Ultramar.

That is a proper angry dreadnought pose. Running right atcha!

:tu:

Nice to see Diocletian get a model! Even though it's still an early WIP, I look forward to seeing him completed. For the pose, I think he's fine as is. Perhaps a slight twist in the waist would be nice, but he looks good.

Tweaked the model slightly and will get an update soon - hope you like :)

Hey Brother-Captain, I was just want to say how awesome this thread is and how inspiring it is especially for someone like me who is in a major hobby rut at the moment. I can`t wait to see more of the Black One Hundred :biggrin.:

Thanks man! Hope it inspires :) Get some pics up of your own stuff soonish, I've found that the B&C and the feedback the brethren/sisterhood here give is really conducive to getting out of a hobby rut.

Some teaser pics from my first games in almost a year ( :O ) with the Hundred, against a Warp Cult, some Death Guard, and a hint of something yet to come...

Cheers brothers. Got a ton of pics to upload tonight, just swinging by here now to post a little teaser of one of the warriors known as the Black Suzerains...

The SUZE IS IN THE HOUSE!!! Looking good brother. How did the boys in black and blue perform? Adequate and befitting of the Black One Hundred?

Thanks fella. Very narrow loss against the Warp Cults, it was my first game back in a year and I was pretty shaky on the rules, so I'm pleased to have done alright against a pretty tournament-geared list (3 superheavies at 2k? Really?) I lost on attrition, in the end - we played Dominion (Age of Darkness scenario) and I was leading 6-0 up until the last turn when the Warp Cult player made some last minute objective grabs.

He doesn't look angry enough.... Just saying.

Also 3 super heavies in a 2k list? Is that even legal? I feel like your army would've done better if you weren't facing a super heavy. At least the odds would have been more in your favor.

They can get super heavies as Dedicated Transports

^This. 2 Malcadors and a Gorgon. Actually, one of the Malcadors went down to graviton fire and the other one missed a lot; the only kicker was that the opponent kept them behind an Aegis, so it took a while for them to die. They did soak up a ton of fire which could have gone elsewhere, though. I wasn't too unhappy with losing by 1VP in my first game back against someone who was practicing for a tournament. And he was a nice dude, so it's all good :)

Censure Bearer

What must a man do to enter the Black One Hundred?

What must a man do to be stripped of all honour and renown in the ranks of the XIII Legion, and cast into a band of malcontents whose only purpose is to die?

There are as many answers to that question as there flaws in the imperfect universe we live in. But Tarquin Hektor was a special case. He alone chose to join us. That day we landed upon Armatura, and bore witness to the waste of the greatest military fortress in all of Ultramar, was the day that Tarquin Hektor walked out of the ash-ridden ruins of the fallen citadels of the Evocatii, bringing with him seven warriors of unparalleled prowess and skill in battle.

How they had survived the slaughter of Armatura, I still do not know to this day. Only Brother-Captain Augustus and the Master of Discipline were made privy to the secret behind the survival of the warriors we would come to know as the Black Suzerains, and their charge, the warlock-warrior who we came to know as the Censure Bearer. Brother-Sergeant Coriolan was there when the Evocatii emerged from the citadel's subterranean tunnels, forming part of the captain's honour guard. He bore the banner we'd recovered from the greatest of Armatura's cities, upon which the epitaph of the Evocatii, and our new rallying cry, was emblazoned: Macragge Invictus. He told me, later, that he'd not heard what had passed between the captain and the librarian, for they had spoken apart from their respective entourages, with only Discipline Master Xeones in attendance. 'A look,' he told me, 'passed between the captain and our Discipline Master. I suspect that they knew then that we'd need every weapon in our arsenal, even a Librarian kept under guard by the Legion's fiercest wardens in accordance with the Nikaean edict, in our battle against this new enemy.'

Of course, that was before our first battle against the warp-cults left behind on Armatura. Against the horrors of the Warp that tore reality asunder and laughed at the laws of our universe as their claws parted ceramite like parchment.

In time, we came to appreciate the unique talents of Tarquin Hektor, Censure Bearer and Librarian. I'd even come to owe the man my life, when he tore through a XIV Legion squad on Canturas, casting Death Guard before him like a psionic whirlwind.

But I never liked him. There was something in the man's eyes - something in his manner - that suggested something feral. Something without compassion or empathy for others, and I suspect this was why when he took to the field, the Black Suzerains were never far away, the vigilant stares of their eagle-faced helms impassively watching their former charge's actions as he served the will of the Master of the Hundred.

And, in time, I would come to understand that Tarquin Hektor had been marked for censure and separated from his Legion brothers as much for our safety as for his own.

Arkhan: Hektor is incredible. So incredibly full of character, looks just as deadly and menacing as I would expect a psyker would be upon the battlefields of the 31st millennium.

disease: Pictures look lovely. It's very nice to see both models together, really showcases the thought that's gone into them on both of your parts.

Cheers guys! Yes, one of the games was at HATE, bit out of my way but lovely tables :)

Bit of an off-topic for this thread - how's this for a test scheme for Horus Heresy-era Imperial vessels flying Macragge colours...?

There's a lot more stuff I have to post properly, but here's a teaser for something else that found its way onto my desk by accident...
