Gotta say, I love him! I must have interrupted my studies a dozen times yesterday to walk over to him and check him out, thinking of what to do next.

Well, that's the best indicator that you've managed to come up with a great conversion! :) Two small pieces of advice, though, if I may: One, be careful with the angle of the head: It looks bent back so far in that first picture that it would end up being utterly impractical, even for a giy receiving Khorne's blessing -- he's still in the middle of a battlefield, after all ;)

Two, as I can say from my own experience, those horns on the jugger head work even better when turned around by a few degress and attached to the jaw at an even lower position, making them look like a natural extension of the jugger's head. Right now, they seem to be sticking out at a slightly strange angle, drawing attention away from parts of the model that are more important.

In spite of those minor quibbles, however, that is going to be one stunning jugger lord! Thumbs up! :)

I think I like your suggestion with the angle of his head. I broke him down into head/torso/legs and am fiddling with the angles a bit.

I don't mind the horns being in this position, though I may check my bits to see if I have any that are thicker or perhaps slightly curved.

No, mate, you mistook my meaning: Those are the horns from one of the Chaos Knight horses right? If so, they only need to be attached at a slightly different angle (and in a slightly different place) to look more natural -- check out my Lord Valkar conversion to see what I mean! ;)

Oh I realize you used them, that's why I said you'd recognize my most recent changes. I like the way yours look, as tusks, but I like my way as well. Don't wanna totally copy your lord, but I like the horns on their own on my guy as well. I did check to see if I had any horns I like better, and these work fine IMO.

Just about done sculpting the trim and adding spikes to his legs:

Maybe a little more trim on the top of his calf:

And the base:

Your models are awesome - very unique (full juggernaught army!) and very nice paint jobs. Keep it up! :D

One thing though - what happened to this guy (and his awesome dragon)?

I needed to hone my skills on other things first. I also wasn't happy with how he was turning out, so I've been thinking of different bits to use and amassing even more to choose from in my collection. I'll get back to him sooner or later... :P

I think I've done enough in terms of trim and details on him. Here's Orodruin with his legs attached:

The only thing I'm sorta iffy about is the (his) right armpit. The tubing isn't perfectly symmetrical (demented laughter), and it sorta bothers me. However, the thickness of the arms and shoulder joints doesn't match, because one is from the Dark Vengeance Aspiring Champ (Vrosh Tattersoul) and the other is from a Warp Talons kit.

Maybe I'll just leave it alone. Maybe I'll add a little piece of guitar string or something.

I think I hate you.  *goes back and looks at the teeth sculpted into the sides of the leg armor*  No, I'm sure of it.  I hate you.  :D

That is some quality work, boss.

Your hate is the biggest compliment you could pay me. I offer my humble thanks for your words! It's all the sculpting tools, really. And trying again and again until I'm happy with the results. I usually scrape off one or two failed attempts before I'm happy. Considering this dude is effectively my warlord, I wanted him to look right.

What tools do you use, by the by?  I've got to improve my sculpting, and while a good craftsman never blames his tools he does recognize that you can be hamstrung by having the wrong ones.  :smile.:

I use these clay shapers:

and various other dental tools, sculpting tools with metal balls at the end, X-acto blades, etc.

Cool, I'll look into picking up a set of those.  I have a set of those ball-tip tools, but haven't really used them for anything other than cleaning up flat areas and even then it's a bit iffy.  I'll get there, eventually.  :biggrin.:

Hey, I know the feeling. You've seen how many things I've built versus how many things I've painted, so we've all got a struggle :P.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I finally finished a unit of juggerspawn. There was a lot of experimenting with techniques and such. 4 of them are second-hand, and the paint didn't strip completely. This obscured some details and such, not sure if you'll be able to notice. Over all pretty sloppy, but I just gave up caring about them being perfect and just wanted something finished. I'm happy with 'em:

The idea for their bases is that they're on a goreworld where the skulls and bones of billions of warriors are ground beneath my army's boots into small pieces/dust. As new combatants are drawn to (or transported against their will) to the goreworld, fresh blood and bones are continually added.

I know you consider them finished and they look pretty neat but can I make a suggestion? (If not ignore the rest of this)

Personally I feel they need something to make them stand out as spawn from your other juggers. For this I'd suggest mauler fiend tentacles, only needing two or so per model. Just marks them as different and will really add to it, I feel.

Well, as for my army they are regular juggernauts. Spawn are merely the vehicle to use riderless juggernauts in the army. As for any "fluff" they aren't mortals who have been transformed by Khorne, but the true creations of daemonsmiths. The Brass Stampede has access to vast herds of juggernauts, to use as mounts in battle as well as to point at the enemy lines and let slip the mechanical daemon bulls of war. :P

If they were truly spawn I'd jump on your idea in a heartbeat, but I'm really not a fan of tentacles/mutations beyond horns and claws and such.
