Yeah. I'm head over heels for the mk3 sets. They just seem bigger and the leg positions are light years better. Just wished they had some runnin legs in there.

I also will be copying your reposed legs from the first few posts. Went back to your earlier posts and have taken notes.

*oh snap!!! I missed the leviathans! He looks righteous surrounded by the fallen. He's going to be a great centerpiece for your army.

Man I've been waiting months to see the completed leviathan, was super excited when I read the thread title! He looks great completed, and very nice decal use and weathering! Fantastic work, looking forward to seeing more!

Cheer hush! I’ll post the mk3 later, they’re pretty much done.

Yeah sorry about the wait! I’m a bit of a hobby butterfly, when I get to certain stage with a model I tend to move on. I’ve actually run out of preheresy stuff to paint (for the first time ever), apart from a few HQs. Good job I’m heading to WHW on Monday......

Thanks for comment

Fantastic work. That Leviathan is gorgeous.

Cheers Dos!

Iron Hands look awesome. Love the white Bolter casing against their black armor. They look spot on!

Thanks mate, it takes a while to paint up the white from a black base coat, but it works I think!

Great work mate! Can I ask how you paint your black armour?

Cheers Stix. The black is fairly simple.

1) Base coat black - either chaos black spray or airbrushed Vallejo black primer.

2) Then I do all the metal work without taking too much care, this inevitably leaves metal colours over some of the plates.

3) Then build up the black with coats of chaos black thinned with nuln oil, letting a bit of the metal shine through.

4) Highlight with Esher grey, then edge with mechanicum standard grey.

5) apply metallic weathering, chips and worn edges to the paint, light metals work well here (Vallejo plata)

6) use AK interactive streaking grime to blend the weathering, use white spirit to make the areas more natural.

7) mix weathing Brown powders with decal fix and water, apply sparingly to some of the armour recesses.

8) apply weathing powder to the greaves without sealing to achieve a dusting effect.

Perhaps it’s more compex than I thought!

Hi guys,

Enjoyed a trip to warhammer world last week. Took my alpha legion and iron hands (which I lent to my brother) and had a great 2500pt game.

Here’s the table:

gallery_87021_11487_784707.jpeg

The iron hands force, led by Ferrus:

The alpha legion:

A few of my favourite shots of the battle:

Landraider proteus lining up an opening salvo against the alpha legion typhon. Contributing to the demise of the typhon in the first turn!

The iron hands tactical squad take a building.

gallery_87021_11487_795645.jpeg

The alpha legion veterans move to counter.

gallery_87021_11487_932631.jpeg

A challenge ensues (the iron hands sergeant now needs a new bionic face...)

gallery_87021_11487_561664.jpeg

They have a contemptor.....our swords are no more use here! Run!

gallery_87021_11487_804328.jpeg

A good vantage point for true quad mortars.

gallery_87021_11487_354497.jpeg

The immortals flush out some more cowardly alpha legion infantry.

gallery_87021_11487_814188.jpeg

And then finish them off!

gallery_87021_11487_400074.jpeg

Brother Ixion attempts to prevent he destruction of the proteus but is quickly immobilised and taken apart by a few well placed krak grenades.

Sniping veterans put a few wounds on the advancing castellax - but cybernetic resilience saves their metal hides from complete destruction.

It’s hammer time!

Needless to say the leviathan didn’t last long....

Enjoy the pics! I’ll post up my next project soon!

It WAS worth it! Great contrast! This snow-cold white you got there looks really cool on your Iron Hands!

Gotta agree with the others, great work, especially on that white.. I’ve done white from a black basecoat before and know how difficult it is, you have a lot more patience than I do. :)

Cheers guys!

It was a great game, but I pretty much lost it in the first turn when my typhon went down to some lucky lascannon rolls. I even bought the 10” blast template from the forgeworld store just before the game, never used it lol!

The game highlighted a need for rhinos, I think I need x5 of them (I’ve been putting off buying them for a while!). Ferrus was a little disappointing, but that might have been because he had no real target for his unit with the alpha legion spread over the board. Quad mortars are insane, they single handidly kept me in the game until the end.

Well, I think I should be getting on with the next project:

gallery_87021_11487_253450.jpeg

I might be leaving Ferrus on the shelf.....

Cadmus

Shame to hear about the Typhon. I had been wanting to get a big ol’ tank but point hike from chapter approved has me delaying that. Hopefully next game he can lay down the rain.

Glad to hear about the quad mortars are good. I always love battles where some unit just keeps the battle going.

Also looking forward to the glaive (right?)!

Morning all,

I started work on the Glaive this week! The forgeworld instructions are really poor for the kit, mainly because the photocopies are so dark you can’t see the bits in detail. After a bit of internet research there are only a handful of hobbyist build guides and the videos tend to skip details.

So, I thought I would go through a step by step build (if I remember to take photos!) to hopefully point out some of the pitfalls with the kit.

I hope it doesn’t become too laborious!

Step 1:

Fairly straightforward, you need to build the plastic side and lower hull pieces from the bane blade sprue. I would suggest letting it dry overnight before moving on. Getting the pieces flat is essential as it provides the base for the rest of the kit. It’s also worth adding a few bits of sprue to support lower hull joint.

gallery_87021_11487_471162.jpeg

Step 2:

The next step is to fit the plastic hull

pieces together. I would suggest you spend a fair amount of time dry fitting the pieces prior to gluing.

I had trouble fitting the resin top hull plate to the plastic sides. I found I had to enlarge the two grooves sitting either side.

gallery_87021_11487_1349950.jpeg

Having tackled that groove the piece dry fits nicely.

gallery_87021_11487_81203.jpeg

Step 3

It’s time to start gluing! Pay attention to the very narrow resin piece with tow hooks:

gallery_87021_11487_42909.jpeg

Getting this bit right will help when you position the rest of the hull. The piece has two tabs either side where it slots into the plastic. (It’s also worth pre drilling the tow hooks if you intend to pass any chain through it at a later stage).

So you need to put one side of the plastic hull on to the base of the tank, glue the resin front plate (above pic) in and then glue the other plastic side on.

I would suggest resting the top plate on the two plastic sides while it dries to help keep it square.

Stay tuned for more riveting updates....

Cadmus

Evening guys,

I’m making good progress on the Glaive. I thought I would share the next phase of the build.

I’ve also just reached 50,000 views! Thanks for all your support so far everyone, it’s keeping me going!

Step 4:

So the next phase is fairly simple, you need the top plate and the plate with cupola/heavy bolter. Note the ridge on the top plate:

gallery_87021_11487_150835.jpeg

The cupola plate sits on top of this ridge and on top of the front plate already glued in place. You have to glue them both in quick succession to get the right position, so make sure you’ve spent time dry fitting first.

gallery_87021_11487_1260229.jpeg

Step 5:

Again, simple, the engine housing needs a lot of work due to the position of the injection mould.

gallery_87021_11487_369963.jpeg

gallery_87021_11487_533589.jpeg

Step 6:

So this part is important, we are about to add the two large resin track housing/side hull pieces. But before you do this I would suggest taking the rear track wheels (L7 and R7):

gallery_87021_11487_17902.jpeg

Place them into their intended position but DO NOT GLUE them in place yet:

gallery_87021_11487_106319.jpeg

gallery_87021_11487_337127.jpeg

(Ps I took the pic before preparing the wheel!)

When the track housing is added in will be impossible to put the rear wheel in position. The pressure of the track housing (when glued in place) will hold the wheel in position. The wheel can be moved still, and this is integral in the last phase of creating the tracks. This additional “play” in the rear wheel will really help that process later on.

Step 7:

With the rear wheels in position, line up the track housing and glue it into position:

gallery_87021_11487_105658.jpeg

gallery_87021_11487_296962.jpeg

Well that’s enough for tonight folks! Next step are the tracks and having build an original spartan, I am not looking forward to it!

The Glaive is probably my single favorite FW model, and I've restrained myself from getting one until this point.  I am eagerly looking forward to your build log for the day when I have my own to tackle!
