Man oh man, your work gets better and better all the time. How that's possible is beyond me, but it does.

Those robes are so beautifully blended. What's the free hand on the chainsword?

:unsure.:A try.  I was listening to Praetorian of Dorn at the time and was inspired by the ornaments on Dorns chainsword.

May be I should post some of my first models, from when I started painting DA.

Your mastery of the lighting and highlight can only be appreciated by other painters!

What technique did you used? the highlight seems so natural, like blended.

I would guess you used some dry-brush? and then layered nearly to a white?

also where did you get those robes!

The quality of your works is an inspiration.

I wish I had the dedication to put that kind of time and the talent to get that kind of quality.

I dry/wet brushing the highlights and paint over with a wash and set some highlights later

I have seen videos about layer techniques but I'm not sure if I have the patience for that.

As for the robes. These are made by Spellcrow.

I tried various ways to paint robes over time.

This was my first Dark Angel ever painted. I did it for a friend and he gave him back to me when he sold all his stuff.

I worked with Bonewhite and Gryphonne Sepia when I started (later AP Soft Tone Wash)

The issue these washes is that it sometimes leaves hard edges

or pool in wrong places

or dry in a way that the edges are darker than the middle.

I tried out Bonewhite, Flesh wash and a bit Offwhite as highlight.

Flesh wash gives it a more yellow touch, which I like, but also has a glossy finish which is unfitting for robes (unless they are of satin or velvet)

My recent models are painted with an undercoat of Heavy Skin Tone, on top of that Bonewhite, a thinned down Sahara Yellow into creases and a bit Offwhite highlight.

The Scalecolor has a matt finish, which its nicer for uneven or large surfaces.

For small surfaces or places where it's hard to get with a brush washes are still great.

I'm still trying out new stuff:biggrin.:

I seriously cannot check this thread anymore... Hadn't had time to do anything Warhammerish in the past 3 months (job change) and seeing this level of work just makes me go "why even bother".

In sombre tone - excellent work Lostrael, like always. I love the idea of the Lion pet! Might borrow that one for my true scale Azrael conversion (if I ever get to it, that is).
