The Berserkers of Uran - a thread from the past

Okay, so I had a think about "The Deepest Cut" and how to change it. My current main idea is:

- The Deepest Cut: All models in this detachment gain Hammer of Wrath. Those who already possess Hammer of Wrath gain the rending special rule on their Hammer of Wrath attacks.

Alternatively, change the name and give the option for all infantry to upgrade to be classes as beasts, at the expense of being able to use transports. Opinions?

Maybe it could be a specialised Blood Boilers Destroyer Dreadnought? I'm picturing this thing with some kind of harmful aura, like it has a modified reactor that pumps out a cubic buttload of radiation so it's super hazardous for anyone to approach. Maybe with a special "vent" attack where it can release a dense cloud of radioactive particles when in Melee to poison groups of opponents with a large blast template on top of the Dread. Some weapon options could be Rad-Cleansers, Rad-Grenade Launchers, Phosphex-throwing Flamestorm Cannons or a Frag Cannon-like weapon that fires blasts of irradiated flechettes. :)

The downside to it would be that its super jank since all the radiation and other supercorrosive materials eat away at the occupants sanity and the durability of the chassis.

Essentially, all its shooting is either Poisoned 2/3+ or Fleshbane and almost always in template or blast form with the addition of dreadnought punchy arms but is literally rusting/corroding itself to death.

Oh I'll make its armour weaker than even usual cortuses, probably have some kind of "on a 1 lose a HP" rule when it vents radiation or something. Or even have its shielding not work above a certain S value.

Billions of ideas forming because of you guys right now.

A couple of possible suggestions:

Positives -

• Rad-Phage from all close combat attacks.

• Improved HoW attacks.

• Increased movement/charge distance (more so that your usual Cortus, due to the unstable fuel used within it's reactor).

Negatives -

• Lower armour in some regard, or a positive modifier on the Vehicle Damage table.

• A variant of the rule which forces the Cortus to always move towards/charge the nearest enemy unit.

Personally my thoughts would be something akin to the Rad-Furnace from the Mechanicum (-1 Toughness to everyone in melee not also equipped with one/immune to them), with poisoned/fleshbane ranged weapons and some melee option to make use of the lowered Toughness (since normal Dread CCWs don't care about -1 Toughness in most cases). The downside to that I think would be -1 Initiative on normal Cortuses (degraded joints etc), maybe always has to charge the nearest enemy unit etc

As a side note, I'd like to put forward the title of "Desolator-Class Dreadnought" for this conceptual unit, as a tribute to the bio weapon-toting Soviet troopers of the same name from Command & Conquer 2: Red Alert & Red Alert 3: Uprising/Commander's Challenge.

Appropriately enough, I love the word "desolate".

Okay, draft time.

Desolator-class Contemptor Dreadnought Talon

WS: 4 BS: 4 S:7 F:13 S:11 R:10 I:3 A:4* HP:3

Unit composition
1-2 Desolator-class Contemptors

Unit type
Vehicle (Walker)

Wargear

- Two Carcinogenic talons (with built-in rad-cleansers)*

- Rad furnace

- Smoke launchers

*The bonus attack for these weapons is included above

Special Rules
- Dreadnought Talon

- Atomantic Shielding

- Nuclear Overcharge

- Wrought with Corrosion

Dedicated Transport

A Desolator-class Contemptor Talon consisting of one model may take a Dreadnought Drop Pod as a dedicated transport

Carcinogenic talons: S+1, melee, sunder, rad-phage

Nuclear Overcharge: This model causes D3 Hammer of Wrath hits rather than 1. This rule also provides the same benefits as Atomantic Overcharge, but also allows the Dreadnought to perform the following special attack:

- Rad-purge: In place of attacking in melee, the dreadnought may place a large blast marker centered over itself at initiative step 1. Any non-vehicle model (friend or foe) takes a hit with the following profile: S:4 AP:3 fleshbane, rad-phage. Use of this attack will cause a further roll to see if it loses a hull point in the same manner as the Atomantic Overcharge rule.

Wrought with Corrosion: Attacks of S8 or higher reduce the invulnerable save provided by Atomantic Shielding by 1 (this may remove it entirely in melee). Rolls on the vehicle damage chart against this model have a +1 modifier, in addition to any others. This model must always make sweeping advances, can never score, and must charge the closest enemy unit possible.

Haven't made any options yet, but here's a draft for the base rules.
