Duz does RG

I think its one of the most underrated and extremely powerful formations in the game!

I've stopped bringing it to friendly matches (not that it will be an issue much longer)

 

I think people over look Stormtalons because they're made of paper and only have 2hp.

But the amount of firepower they can dish out, especially if your opponent doesn't have and AA is devastating! 

I hope they don't get too nerfed next edition. 

Oh ditto, I would happily take a Demi Company if I could take Issadon some way in it too. I am using Storm Talons too, Storm wing ftw.

Stormraven is on my list but I think Id have to purchase one of those Chapter House fuselage extension kits first.

So had a practice game with a friend this weekend he threw together a Gladius list. I managed to win by 2 pts in tertiary after tying primary and secondary.

I thought I'd share this photo of the end of my turn 1 it looked really dynamic. My army with the basing looked really good on the FAT mat too (if I do say so myself!).

Ill try and take plenty more photos while Im at the tournament.

My favourite first round match up...

Not much to elaborate on here, 1650pt event, he probably summoned 600 odd pts to the table. Glad to see this go next edition!

He also was taking his invul saves with his LOC and Fateweaver like a boss, my Stormtalons couldn't bring them down.

I was tabled in the end.

Major Win 19-1

My opponent was running the pseudo star Zardsnark. The few times I've played this list I under estimated it.

This time I was sure to apply extra prejudice to purge the Xenos scum.

I got first turn and my anti horde elements of my army went to work.

I ended up tabling him, we both had a lot of fun though.

Round 3

Eldar

Minor Loss 9-10

A very fun game too, the Wraithknight also would not fail a save and my Knight was deployed too far back to get into CC and take it out. It was very back and forth, I should have applied more pressure earlier in the game. However my opponent was rolling terribly and I felt bad and made some mistakes as a result.

It came down to tertiary points in the end and he won by line breaker.

Iron Hands

Major Win 19-0

I think I have PTSD when I see Smash Master Mcsmashface on the board.

When I first go into tournaments I would regularly play against a friend who would run a similar list.

Fortunately this list wasnt super optimized and he didn't roll Invis!

I played tactically, stay way back and laying down his high number of vehicles. My mission was table quarters, his was assassiante. I kept the 3 targets far away from attention. He charged my might with his Star and failed to do any major damage. By the time he blew up the Knight only Smashface was left on the table.

Chaos + Daemons

Major Loss 0-19

Not a super obnoxious summoning list which was nice, but summoning none the less.

Damn splitting pinks / blues / brims which blocked any assaults I wanted to make after shooting was really annoying.

He also had 3 hell turkies with a comm's relay so he managed to take my birds out pretty quickly. My goal was assassinate and with his comms relay he managed to keep those units off the board until I was effectively tabled.

High/low light of the game: Chaplain and Inquisitor charged a 10man cultist mob. Chaplain laid low 4 cultists and then died to the their blows in the first round! The Inquisitor enacted revenge by running them down as they broke.

Imperial Knights + Ultra Marines

Major Loss 4-14

This one was tough, I wasn't prepared to handle that much armour. Especially when he had an anti-knight, Knight Lancer which was his Baron.

The game ended with my Chaplain tying for primary because he was hiding 6" away from a Knight in a building which my opponent didn't realise was holding my 2nd objective vs his 1.

My dice were super cold this game and he literally wasnt failing any saves. The only damage I did was 1 HP each to the two FW Knights, and killing the Crusader Knight with my Warden who was taken out by the Lancer the following turn.

Overall I enjoyed my list, most opponents agreed it was well balanced. Not super cheesy and was true to RG in its tactical play. TSF was fun as my list was able to deal with most threats, it did struggle with high toughness / wound models and heavy armour though. The 1850pt version of it dropped the razorbacks for rhinos and gained a second Knight which would have helped.

Anyways thats the first and last time I will use this army as is. I'm hoping 8th will keep the flavour I was able to have in its current iteration.

I will post the list (for what its worth) later as well as a group photo and some of the armies that were at the event.

I've been looking back at your Scouts using Scions heads, did you have to trim the neck piece down on the heads to fit them or did they sit ok without alteration?

I believe I did have to trim the base of the neck a bit for it to fit without it looking goofy

Yes, both scion and astartes heads need filing down on the sides and back. For each pose differently, just try out.

The photos of the other armies that were there were pretty terrible too and I'm not sure if I want to invest the time trying to salvage them in post production.

PITA it may be, but DSLR+tripod is always worth it afterwards for me.

Yeh I hear you. My wife's G16 + tripod should do the job though, especially since it can also shoot RAW

 

I tend to keep the 1DX and L series stuff for when my time is spent purely on photographing. The thought of leaving that stuff on my trolley while I play is less than ideal. 

Although my 50D is smaller needs to be retired, picture quality is so poor by comparison... My dream is to one day I'll replace that with a 7D Mk<x> :) , unfortunately in the meanwhile 40k keeps sucking all my funds I might put towards such a device!

Not trying to drag your lovely thread way off topic, but you might want to slap a Canon 50mm f/1.4 prime on that 50D and shoot RAW with it. I used to have one on my 550D and the results were great. And it's a ton cheaper than a 7D.

So on top of the Lts I kit bashed this week I finally got around to doing my Jump Chaplain Shrike! :D

Got some more building in last night. (Was enjoying some wine in the evening so didn't want to paint. ;) )

I had this spare tac squad which I didn't really have a use for. With the changes in 8th I thought it would be a good opportunity to bulk out my 3 tac squads to 10 man and build plasma options too.

I have 1 spare body left which I dont know what to do with just yet.

I've also decided that I will use my Command Squad box to make 1 foot apothecary and the 4 other torsos will go towards heavy bolters. They're an older kit and are kinda bland for command squad duties. I only got them for the Apothecary.

However building these has also highlighted I need another 40-50 RG shoulder pads from Shapeways ... so much for no hobby spending this month and next!

So I guess today is a bit of a milestone for my RG army. I've managed to build and prime all my models. Better yet they all have MkVI helmets and RG shoulder pads. :)

Admittedly I do have 4 heavy bolters to build and 1 spare body I could maybe use as a Sgt.

However I'm still calling it a victory as I've only been collecting the army for just under two years. Half of which I was either under employed or unemployed, as I moved across the world and had to find work.

Now the long arduous task of getting them all camo'd up! (I also need to select my next vow for HHotE)

 

I think this will call for a photo op shortly. :D

 

On another note I've been considering steering away from my full white, white. (Ie ulthuan grey to white scar layer) and using a more modest ulthuan or one of the GW suggested ones. This would probably require me to repaint 10 veterans and some characters to maintain consistency. I may do some test models to see what I think of these alt-whites ...
