Magnets are really cool. I've learned some tricks over that make using them a lot easier. This weekend I made a jig to hold the magnetized bits to make it easier to prime them. My last project took forever to prime/seal because I had to do the weapons one at a time. This should make that a little faster. It's double sided (one side all North polarity, the other all South) so I can attach all of one kind to a single side and get a good spray. Hoping to test it out this week once the wind dies down.

The fight against Nurgle begins. Airbrushed the base layers on my medicae tonight. I've decided to paint my Apothecary in an inverted version of my scheme, similar to my librarians. Armor will be red with light great knees/elbows/shoulders. I debated on doing the same for the Helix Adept but have decided that he's not a full fledged Apothecary yet so he'll have my gray armor but I'll do his right shoulder red.

I'm also trying out more base coating and zenithal so that I can push the contrast on my gray scheme. So far I like where it's going and I think when it's highlighted and done it will look a lot better than the flat way I've been painting so far. The close up of the helmet shows off the contrast from light to dark much better than the front shot.

'ha' to both of you.

I wanted to start for two reasons:

1 - I haven't painted anything for myself in a long time and I think it will be a good mental boost for me

2 - June 28th is not that far off and I'm still working on the Tau commission

I'd actually like to see how quickly I can paint up the models. I've got a goal of painting faster while maintaining quality and still improving.

Helix Adept progress! I'm really happy with how the model is coming. I base coated it entirely differently than my last attempts at armor and the contrast really shows and I'm very happy. Before my models were very light grey but now I'm basing in a darker grey and zenithaling my light grey color and it looks much better. I also reworked the blue trim color because I had this reverse highlight thing going on that I decided I'm not happy with. I pulled out some models I'd base coated previously to test new blues on and that's when I realized how much better, IMO, the new armor looks. First pick is before/after getting better with the AB. Last pic is where I got to last night. I think the red shoulder is a little bright so I'm going to try and knock that back down.

Started on the base for my Apothecary. Saw this idea somewhere and can't remember so sorry for not attributing credit where it's due. I plan on having arms that are cut down and then adding rubble to the base to hide everything else.

Helix Adept body is done and based. I'm really happy with the changes in scheme. I even dry brushed my highlight colors on the shoulder and knee pads to give them more definition. I'm not sure if I should take the red highlight up one more level. To do that though I think I'd have to use an Orange Red color I have and I'm not sure if that will be too much.

Head is on and I love how the red pops against the scheme. The Army Painter washes have been really awesome and I like them so much more than the Secret Weapon Miniature washes I've been using. They're quite thick but easy to work with. The purple has been great because it still does what I want on the eyes and it's been a really nice filter on the blue armor pieces.

I think first time I saw one of your models that this was going to be a love/hate relationship .... nothings changed :)

That is some real sweet work. I actually said damn and turned my phone off when I first saw it lol. Your ability to keep your lines so clean and the surface so smooth is awesome.

Thanks to both of you. The lines are just from going very slow and not having much paint on my brush so it's easy to correct mistakes. I'm still torn if I should weather them or not because I wasn't happy with my first attempt. I'm going to go through all of my Calth marines and practice weathering on them before I even attempt to weather my Primaris stuff.

DONE! So happy that I nailed the scheme. It's a lot darker compared to my previous attempts but it looks so much better IMO. Going to take a break to work on the Tau and then get back to my Apothecary.

Took a break from installing magnets and put some work in on my Apothecary base. Really happy with how it's turning out. It needs some more sand/debris and physical damage to the marine. I'll probably finish the body of the Apothecary so I can test it for standing on the base. I don't want him to look like he's dancing with one foot in the air or placed at an odd angle because there's not a good place to pin him too.

Base is done (I think). Rubble has been built up and some physical battle damage has been added. I'm undecided on what to do with the head: leave it be and paint some blood/soot or actually physically alter it. I don't want gore on the base, but I also don't think the head would be without damage. I think at this point I'm going to leave it and see what paint can do, but I'm open to suggestions if any of you have them.

Well I thought I was done with the grey trim on my Apothecary but as I took the photo I realized I forgot the elbows. I'll get those next time I paint. The shoulders also need the recess wash done but then it's on to all the little vials and cables. I think I'm going to keep them all pretty similar as I don't want this to take forever or clash with all of the varying colors put together.
