I get so irritated with this rulebook. I was helping Nineswords with his called shot and it is only a small section in the power armour rules that tells you that autosenses make it a half action rather than a full. Gah!

Tell me about it - there's a rule for calling for a Strength Test when throwing things.  There's a tiny bloody sidebar that's 2 x 2 inches - in an unrelated section -  that contains the damned exception for grenades!

it is exceptionally frustrating.

It's a shame that the books are layed out so poorly, I think if they were edited better, the system would be amazing...

Black Crusade did a better job, along with doing away with "ranks", you can buy anything you want, just somethings are easier to learn based on your "alignment"... For Deathwatch, I could see that "alignment" system reworked to be decided by archetypes so to speak

Assault Marines -- STR based and aligned skills / talents (CQB stuff), pays a more for ranged combat / AGI stuff

Devastator -- AGI based (ranged combat), pays more for CQB and STR stuff

Tactial -- Fel based (command type stuff), no real extra costs

Libarian -- WIS based (Psy skills), pays extra for Fel stuff

Tech Marine -- Int / WIS hybrid, pays extra for Fel

Apoth -- Int based, no real extra costs

Something like that fixes some major issues for some of the classes, like not getting key talents untill Rank 8 (assault Marines, I'm looking at you and Pernatural Speed), this would also give a touch more customisation between characters... maybe next time I run a game locally I'll try doing it that way..

Mol: by my estimate, the last surviving Armsman is about 20m away. Would you allow Vaidan to cover that distance and shield the survivor with his body/armour/mass as one full action? (Vaidan's full running distance is 24m)

? :)

I'd love it if he survived!

Also, I'm all the more in favor of getting the Forging the Bond talent for us since it would basically let me give the squad either some CC oomph with Storm of hell:

  • Marine and those in support get the furious assault and frenzy talents ( which I would be able to activate as a free action for myself and Varvost thanks to being a Sanguinary Priest

Aka: Drinking from a Blood Chalice is a great honor buuuuuuuut...

Or, give us 8-10 extra wounds if we're taking major hits:

  • Lets the marine and those in support ignore the effects of critical damage that wouldnt kill you until the ability ends or combat finishes at which point we suffer the full effects.

Atratus has jumped into the middle of the horde will hopefully be in support range for anyone already there, so they can enter squad mode as a free action with no test.

No other benefit ATM (aside from activating chapter squad abilities), though someone could call stronghold as a full action that grants everyone in the squad +20 WS/BS against the horde and the option to use their reactions to make an extra attack.

That sounds like a very Sergeant-y thing to do! (And I would allow you to do your move+shield plus the Strongpoint call as part of your turn + fate point spend!) Edited by Commissar Molotov

Phew. Posted my bit.

tl;dr - if you are within 30m of Vaidan, are in Squad Mode, and attack the Upper Hormagaunt Horde, you gain +20 WS/BS, can reroll damage rolls, and can use your Reaction as a Standard Attack against that target.

This means that Nineswords, Slips, and A.T., whose characters are all within Support Range of Vaidan might want to amend their posts to benefit from this bonus, as each of their characters come after the Sergeant initiative-wise. You can do this for free as you are in SR of Vaidan.

Nicely executed, by the way Dos, what is your Chapter Demeanour?

MR.

Gregarious.

Gregarious.

That's your personal demeanour...

I can't access your sheet from here - you should have two of them, first one means you're a chatterbox and another one...

It's important, because depenmding on what it is, you can "invoke" your chapter demeanour and then roleplay it.  If you roleplay it well enough per the GM's opinion, you are granted the benefit of a Fate Point, without actually having one if you follow me...

I tried it earlier in the IC thread, but must have missed by a mile! ;p

MR.

Note that Vadian himself can also spend a reaction to smash aside a few of the horde as he goes - unless he's saving it for something else.

Good point!

Vaidan has Gregarious as his personal Demeanour (which represents charisma and chattiness) and Void Wanderers (which represents their nomadic nature) as his Chapter Demeanour. I don't think either really applies here.

By the by, I think you have to declare it when you trigger your demeanour, otherwise the poor GM will have little idea what you're trying to achieve!

My understanding of your prior post, Mazer, was that you invoked and spent your fate point all at one go, which I didn't disallow. If you believe you didn't benefit, I will give you another fate point for free.

Congratulations brothers! You stand victorious!

I am happy to presume you all relocate to the central area and shut the doors. Narrative time will resume and you will not be attacked - not least because I want Solastion to have the chance to heal you all!

Wasn't having a go Mol, I just looked at Akkad's Fate points from the Combat Rounds you were posting and saw his Fate Points were down to 2, so I thought I'd lost one from the pool and fair enough methinks. :wink.: Besides my post was a bit bloody overwrought, but then I had that one stored up for use, so...maybe not ideal.

What the GM has written, he has written after all :smile.:

My apologies if I have misunderstood.
