Mandragola
Choo choo! Here comes the Heresy train! I haven't ventured into 30k since before 8th edition 40k dropped. Naturally, this means I have a load of old resin stuff that I never got round to finishing (including a Spartan, irritatingly). I was always quite disappointed with the Sigismund model because I felt that his legs were too small for his body (or it was too big I guess). So poor old Siggy had been languishing in a bits box with no legs for a few years, until now. I had a sort of brainwave about the BT Marshall from the army box. I'm very unlikely to ever make a BT army and if I do it'll probably be led by Helbrecht, so I hadn't put him together. This provided me with a nice new pair of legs for Sigismund, appropriately covered in archaic details. I particularly like the belt. I wasn't planning on giving him a cloak but I think it actually works quite well here, blowing around. Quite a bit of GS work is going to be needed around the back to tidy up the joins but from this angle I think he looks quite fun. I don't really know how I'll manage my potential re-entry into Heresy. My Fists are all in Mkiii so most of the stuff in the new box wouldn't fit well with them but I do have a small-ish Ravenguard army in 4/6 that might benefit. No idea what I'd do with the Cataphractii but I'll think of something - maybe I'll get some shields and make Huscarls. depthcharge12, Chaeron, Astartes Consul and 14 others 17 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/71/#findComment-5834537 Share on other sites
Shovellovin
Excellent combination of two very cool models, Mandragola! Please post this model when you've completed it. SkimaskMohawk
As my profile pic kind of spoils, I finished a second Contekar (finally)! Sorry for the big pics, but they honestly help see the highlights on the blue and some of the details on the gold. I always really liked doing the details of the night lords to tie the model together; the trim, the lightning, and the gore. Especially the gore, as macabre as it is, which is definitely why I enjoy painting the contekar so much. Really happy with skull-helm; I was a bit unsure of how it would look in gold, and also really happy with the eyeball on the old zombie head. The lightning could have been better on the black pad, but came out great on the almost-impossible-to-fix blue. Happy 2nd edition! darkhorse0607, Pearson73, Chaeron and 13 others 16 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/71/#findComment-5834869 Share on other sites

Pearson73
@Mandragola Fantastic job on Sigismund, the billowing cloak adds so much drama and weight to the pose. I can really see him atop the walls of the Palace, storm raging above. @Blitzjager Really solid work with the Raptor, the use of transfers is super effective. @SkimaskMohawk You're definitely right to be happy with that eyeball! The volkite heat effect is spot on too. SkimaskMohawk
Thanks Pearson! NinjaBadger, it's a blue acrylic ink over a white and black preshade. It's highlighted with scale75 Mediterranean blue and shaded with an oil wash, want to say burnt umber? To that end I'm gonna follow the same tack as NinjaBadger and ask what you used for the gold? The legion symbol in it looks really bloody good, has an impressive 'old gold' look. SkimaskMohawk
It's basically a direct rip of kizzdougs' recipe, but with a little substitution of warp lightning contrast instead of green ink. -Scale75 necro gold basecoat. -scale75 necro gold and elven gold and a hint of the warp lightning as a directional highlight. I want to say 1:1:0.2, but it's whatever has enough green tint without overpowering the metallics -necro gold and warp lightning to build up the shadows. You can go with a lot more green with this one. -necro gold, elven gold, warp lightning and now silver (I used valejo solver, but any birght silver works) for the final directional highlight; concentrate it in the middle of the previous highlight. You have to watch out on the silver, because it can really over power the rest of the colours. The rest use the same ratios as step 2. -diluted warp lightning glazed into the extreme crevasses and areas where maybe you lost a bit of green. -final spot highlight with pure silver. You just want dots and the barest of edges. Maybe some scratches across the surface if you have the brush control. Astartes Consul
Finished a five man Cataphractii for my XIII Legion last night. Slinky
Welcome back, all - I finished off my Imperial Fists, will post pics some time. SkimaskMohawk
Got a couple of dudes converted up from the box, tho I definitely rely on the scheme to add more points of interest. Like this vigilator, who pinned an assault marine squad off the intercept! Iron Hands Fanatic
vigilator & despoiler squad built for my new raven guard force: I also had a go at seeing how much of the land raider proteus I could build from the spartan given they clearly share common sprues and this is the result: Pacific81, Chaeron, CaptainFrederickson and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363129-30k-hobby-chat/page/71/#findComment-5836721 Share on other sites
No Foes Remain
So far with my box I've not done much (work has been manic) but I'm in the process of building a Mk2 MoS from the Mk2 bits from the Spartan and a random pair of resin Mk2 legs that I found (never bought the kit so no idea where they came from). Also I decided to give the sword praetor a go and I now have a Raven Guard Vigilator, still need to shave back some greenstuff but I'm happy with him.
