Working on a Heavy Support Squad to finish out my initial 1000 points and play an actual game. For a start I wanted all my Sergeants to have a crest, but hunting down enough crests have proven a hassle. But for this one I found the Sternguard Veteran sprue, and so we have a mohawk man leading the flaming folk.

I know I will get crucified for this as it's completely not lore-accurate with respect to the armour design, but I've been doing some kit bashes of the Primaris + Horus Heresy/mk6 kits, just for a fun Scouring-era skirmish campaign I am playing in.

Am doing only 7-8 marines so am really enjoying kitting them out with all sorts of different equipment. I love the extra limb-length of the Primaris kits, it lets you do a lot more with them and add accessories etc.

@Pacific81 Eh, prototype armours were always a thing, maybe yours just got some of those Cawlian goodies out before the Primaris project went into the fridge ;)

It looks great anyway. Reminds me of Rogue Trader / Imperial SM beakies, if only there were a bit more cabling and soft armour on it.

Thanks guys! Had to do some lore-gymnastics for the setting as one guy wanted to use loyalist 30k Death Guard and I wanted to use Beakies, a couple of alien race players too - so a Scouring-era setting, and remote edge of the Imperium, seemed appropriate.

Hey, I use loyal-ish Death Guard up until the 41st millenium as well, it's fine when you do proper warmups before all the mental gymnastics involved :D

So, I ended up picking up a kit of deathwing knights on clearance for conversion bits and some Indomitus Terminators, and I have a couple questions;

1) I've been planning to use the plastic praetor in Cataphractii as a base for a Primus Medicae. I've seen people do this before, but what I'm curious about is the feasibility of using the Deathwing Terminator sword in place of the combi-melta. I've put the two bits side by side; Do you think it could work with some cutting and sculpting?

2) I'm also wondering if the Halberd from the kit could be used as Farith Redloss's axe. I've been using the Plastic Power Axe praetor as a base, but I don't like the executioner's axe on a model that's clearly going to stride into combat. The hand spacing looks pretty similar, and could look like a low guard. What do you think?

3) As for the actual Indomitus Terminators, how much iconography should I remove? I definately need to remove the crux terminatus, but what about the rest? On the one hand most 40k DA iconography works for 30k DA too, on the other hand, 30k Indomitus is less likely to be blinged out the way the deathwing kit is. Suggestions?

You could possibly do it, but you'd need to re-pose the arm I think. I think with how rotated the pose is, it might not be the best base sculpt for holding the sword like that. You'll need the arm to bend upwards some, and not be so far out to the right.

know you can get it onto a normal Tartaros Terminator though, one of the arm bits is just right for the sword, as I did here in the past

Spoiler

As for the Indomitus Terminators, any crossed swords are perfectly fine, as that's the symbol of the Deathwing in 30k. The main thing you might need to do is remove any overt broken sword iconography, either by filling it in or swapping it out.

I'd never noticed it before, but they are covered in broken sword iconography.

Good to know.

They shouldn't be too bad to fill the break in with some greenstuff or milliput. I've done it before, and it wasn't difficult.

Doublepostaction!

more stuff arrived:

The Champion Consul which rides with them the Storm Eagle.

No turning back now.

I have to face the fact that I have to build that thing.

Otherwise they'd have to walk.

But they want to fly.

Just about done with my Praetor’s transport.  I run it as a Proteus, the original sculpt was designed to have the same hull profile, access points and weapon positions as the venerable plastic land raider.  So it’s very close to the new Proteus.

designed by Aceminis, printed and painted by me.

After far more hours masking than I’d like to think about I have the base colors done on my sky hunters.

What is the appropriate squad icon for them?  I’ve checked back through the black books but haven’t been able to locate a canon squad marking.

Finally got some plastic jetbikes today which I've wanted since they were resin, bonus thanks to Angelus with the guide to easy magnets (have yet to glue the magnets on so the 'easy' part of glueing the sprues is done).

Now to dig out some MkIV bits and change the armour for the riders.

3mm x 1mm. The square hole the weapon pegs go into is wide enough to accommodate a 3mm without modification. Just need to build a frame inside the bike out of sprue to hold the internal magnet at the right depth.

I have a squad of these as well. How the heck did they get even better this edition!?!

That sounds promising.

I just love their models which was reason #1 to take them as first Rewards of Treachery unit. Sun Killers are next in line. I just love the torso upgrades of the EC.

Speaking of torso upgrades.

I finally managed to build my 20 mem Despoiler squad.

Was quite some work but looks impressive and that's the reason why I will field them.

This is the sarge. The weapon is a Charnabal Glaive. I wasn't quite sure how this weapon looks but this is my interpretation of it. A nice pokey stick.

@Cruor Vault I'm extremely jealous of your productivity lol. I've fallen into the bad habit of doing a single model at a time with my airbrush scheme, kinda the opposite point of using time saving tools.

Dont be too jealous lol.  I work in Hollywood, I was between shows when the writers strike happened, and now that is causing more shows to go down/not get started, so I have all the time to paint...

Ha! I’m on the east coast also working in film and was hoping our show would go down so I’d have time to paint! Good to know I’m not the only one whose hobby progress is tied to the film industry.
