I feel you can choose - you can either have Strike Team Veteran Specialist, focusing on his skills as a leader, or you can have Master of Arms, focusing on his skill as a marksman. You'd need to give me a fluff justification to explain the specific effect you'd like me to apply to your weapons.

 

Right I will take Master of Arms. 

 

My thinking on this is two fold:

1: He had limited experience of command, so the planning etc implied in strike team specialist doesn't seem as apt. 

2: He demonstrated himself more as a soldier than a leader, and being a better killer better fits how the chapter views themselves as "divine killing machines". 

 

The two options I will be taking under master of arms is as such:

- Accurate (because he is just so proficient with firearms, hence the marksmanship commendation in his bio)

- Felling (1) (His killing experience just tells him where exactly to hit to do the most damage, lots of experience in killing renegade Astartes in his latest 2 deployments, consult bio).

 

I'm also wondering what renown level we're looking at. I was going to ask as I'm hoping to take a combi-weapon with Sig wargear + Sig Wargear master but a combi weapon requires "respected". (Ie, tactical marine not just dumping all my exp into stat boosts :P )

 

Is this okay @Mol?

As MR said, you are correct Light. You can only buy from you chapter table and rank 1 tables until you cross the xp expenditures threshold for rank 2, then you can buy from rank 1 and rank 2 as well as your chapter table.

I was not aware that the lower ranks get blocked. I am certain just by pure chance I worked through it rank by rank anyways meeting the thresholds but I will keep that in mind for the future.

They don't, you can always buy from your current rank and lower.

The awareness skill is already there...but i want to increase it because of my characters traits. So do i have to buy the rank 1 awareness first or because i have the skill ticked i can go to rank 2. Basically is having the skill just the entry onto the rank table in the first place.

For example with Tyber:

His chapter advance table allowed him to buy Dodge, Dodge +10 and Dodge +20 for cheap. So Tyber started play with Dodge +10 because I could buy the +10 skill right away. but I needed the +10 version before I could by the +20 version.

Steel's on the money.  FWIW, the reason all the duplicate stuff is there is for GM's to stat NPC's and other characters appropriately.

As a Marine, you already have Awareness, so only need to buy Awareness +10/+20 to improve it.

 

More info is in the spoiler if you want to bake your noodle:

Be advised that your Awareness is based on your Perception Stat.  For free, because of your Marine implants you get +10 to Sight and Hearing Awareness tests.

 

When you put your helmet on, you get a further +10 to Awareness tests, thanks to your autosenses technology, for a total of +20 to any sight or hearing based Awareness Test.

 

So your Stat may say Per: 45, but even without your helmet it become 55, and with your bin lid on, trying to spot or hear something, it becomes 65.

 

Note also that you may increase your Perception Stat in other ways...it goes on and on...

Ashlander: I'd be fine with Incariel getting the Initiate of Secrets - though if he is Ravenwing (and/or ex-Ravenwing) it surprises me he's a Devastator. Perhaps if he were a Gunner on an Attack Bike or a Land Speeder? Why is he coming to the Deathwatch? Is he angling for promotion to the Deathwing?

 

 

You've basically read my mind, though that might just be because the way forward is very apparent. The Ravenwing into Devastator is the first hurdle but leapt over with an obvious justification of him fighting primarily as the gunner on the various speeders and bikes - it would be that in his service he showed enough aptitude with bring heavy, mounted weaponry to bear that it only makes sense to equip him as a Devastator. I was looking to reflect this in a certain unorthodox Skill advances, and roleplaying a prominent mindset that just because you establish a base of fire doesn't mean that base cannot shift according to the battlefield - and quickly!  There is the Advanced Speciality for a lofty 1,000xp that I'm willing to lean into to support this -- but I am getting way ahead of myself there.
 
As the DA and their successors aren't wholly Codex compliant and have considerable leeway with their various wings, I reckoned a variance in mindset and tactics would support what is otherwise, I agree, a surprising role for one who served in what is ostensibly a Fast Attack & Recon company. In keeping with the general theory/suspicion that the Consecrators are what's left of the Firewing, I imagine certain doctrinal quirks just don't wash away so easily, even after 10,000 years. Insert at high speeds, unleash armageddon (not the world but firing a planet at somebody is peak 40k), and then extract in the same blink of an eye.
 
 
His seconding to the Deathwatch would indeed be a very classic move of personal motives carried on the back of the welfare of the others - in this case it just so happens that the general welfare of the Dalthus sector works towards his own motives in great concert. A good showing here at Watch-Station Azurea is a considerable accolade to have on his path towards being considered for the Deathwing, and it just so happens to fulfil the Consecrator's commitment to honouring the oaths towards the Deathwatch, while providing another, more unpredictable testing ground for Incariel's quality to shine through. Seconding a trusted (such a silly word in this context but hey..) member of the chapter also just so happens to widen the net for other, more pressing issues, meaning the Consecrators would kill not just two but perhaps even three xenos with one stone here. Maybe four if they roll enough sixes on the dice.
 
What do you think? Tenable? Workable? There's some nuance and bending of the steel to be done but I think ultimately for the better. And again I have to commend you and everybody else here for the general smoothness of this creation process - I've seen military parades that were less orderly and polite.

Depending on your thoughts on how the Celestial Lions operate, you could use:

- Imperial Fists (Rites of Battle)

- Black Templars (Core Rulebook)

- Crimson Fists (Honour the Chapter)

- Codex Chapter Advances (Honour the Chapter)

- One of the custom Chapter tables (Rites of Battle)

 

We have some flexibility, especially as this is before the Chapter is decimated by the Inquisition and reconstituted by the Black Templars.

This also applies to the Solo/Squad mode - there are also some additional Black Templars options in Honour the Chapter - I think that if you renamed/reskinned the Black Templars ones they might be of some utility.

Much as Adesro has done, you could look at any of the Chapter Trappings in the core rulebook and look at how you could reskin for the Lions.

I will look at Renown - as you're not going through the arming process yet, it won't matter.

I did look at No Quarter Given and if you wanted to use that, you could. I did look at Right Gear for the Job and wondered if you could use that to have Chaka wielding a combat shield along with his chainsword?

I already suggested the Command Without Doubt table from Rites of Battle earlier, so if you don't mind I'll use that.

 

Having taken a look at Solo/Squad mode, Tactical Finesse and Courage Under Fire (Both also from RoB) seem fitting for Squad mode. Not sure about Solo.

 

Trappings could be the tabard from the Black Templars, and the Scrimshaw Tools from the Imperial Fists. Need to look at getting Trade Rememberancer...

 

Finally, isn't Right Gear for the Job for Tactical Marines only?

Righty then, I've done gideon's advances, so here they are for your viewing pleasure. If I feel like an advance has a particular link to his story, I'll add it in brackets.

 

Simple WS Advance -500

Simple Willpower Advance - 500

Simple Fellowship Advance - 500

Lore Imperial Navy - 200 (This comes after his tenure aboard a Rogue Trader's vessel, I don't know if there is a rogue trader lore but nevertheless)

Total Recall - 500 

Inquiry - 800 (Having served as a Diplomat for his chapter before, he is acquainted with conversing with non-astartes, be they human or xeno.)

Rapid Reload - 200 (Tactical's get it for 100 cheaper)

Performer: Storyteller -400 (While as a diplomat or an ambassador, he often eases tensions by regaling his audience with tales of honour and glory.)

Forbidden Lore: Xenos - 400 (While a member of a rogue trader's retinue, Gideon often encountered Xenos beasts up close. Suffice to say, he learned a lot from his encounters, and his training in the deathwatch only saw to advance his knowledge.)

It's from his service as a rogue traders retinue where Gideon has picked most of his advances in game, and I'm happy I rolled it for a past event. I think it gives a little depth into his character, having been able to explore without needing to be in combat most of the time, letting him broaden his perspective.

Ok, I think(?) that's all filled in correctly. I stupidly filled in the Purchase History page, then had to move it to the revised page, but other than that, all good!

 

On the Solo/Squad page, I haven't got any boxes or anything to populate, is that the same as everyone else's or am I missing something? Should we just lay that page out however we want, as long as the info is there?

 

 

Edit: Crud, just realised I missed out Forging the Bond. I'll edit, take out Solid Constitution and replace.

I'm considering either the deed Price of Victory or Return to Duty for Helgrim. Additionally I adjusted a couple of the dates in his service history such that he's a relatively newly raised Chaplain.

 

Edit: also for clarification, does the Doom Eagles' chapter drawback of Fellowship advances costing 2x only affect the attribute advances or does it also include skills and related talents.

Unless you guys have different versions, on your Character Sheet, you should have two tabs.  The first one will have all your gear and armour locations etc.  There should be boxes marked Squad Mode, Attack Pattern/Defensive Stance and Solo Mode at the bottom under "Primarch's Curse", on the left hand side.

 

If you want to know where the Squad Modes etc are for your chapter in the books, it depends on what Mol has agreed what these should be, and he will likely have given a book with a page reference to help find it, so you can study the effects.

 

If those boxes don't exist on your character sheet, they will likely need to be made for your convenience as a player.

Sounds like a glitch in the matrix!  You will have to give supplication to the machine spirit and put them there yourself - with Mol's approval and guidance, natch.
