Dr_Ruminahui
Thanks @Firedrake Cordova - I'm still not completely sold on my plasma recipe, but its better than my previous ones, so it will do until I find something that really clicks with me. Anyway, I'm glad you like it. I've finished my demon prince - must say I'm pretty happy with him. I did him quartered, with my EC magenta and a metallic purple that I intend to use for my CSM raptors - the main reason it took so long to paint this guy was it took forever for me to find and decide on a metallic purple I liked for the raptors and him. This scheme was chosen (like with my 3-gun LE/Cypher stand in) so that he would look like he belongs when I use him in either force. Here are some pictures of his back (I did the reiklander wash for all the flesh except the inside of the wings, and I didn't want to make that portion of the model too dark) with each of the other weapon options - I magnetized them in case they ever become separate options again. The weapon options don't really show up well from the front, so I figured this was the best way of showing them. And here is a picture with the old demon prince - the new one is a huge glow up. Once I figure out how I want to highlight the magenta, I'll come back and highlight the armour, but for now he's done. Dr_Ruminahui
Finished my second squad of new noise marines: In doing so I hit a couple of important hobby milestones: a) I've now painted all of the models I airbrushed purple last summer; and b) I've now painted over 1/2 of the EC models (in points) I own (and not including any models I painted for my Heretic Astartes but use in my EC army). sitnam
Great job on the milestones. I've always liked how you used the cloaks for unit markings Dr_Ruminahui and Firedrake Cordova 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370363-dr-ruminahuis-mostly-slaaneshi-stuff/page/5/#findComment-6170947 Share on other sites
Dr_Ruminahui
Thanks, @sitnam - I'm particularly happy with how the cloaks have come out, both for their aesthetics and how they help keep the units separate and identifyable when I do get them in a game. Here's a picture of the backs of both my noise marine squads together. Not sure what colour I'll do the cloaks on my third squad - maybe yellow? In any case, I want it to be a warm colour, as I'm using cooler colours (blue, green, not decided on my third colour) for my infractors. EmprahsStrongestGuardsman
You have an orange (yellow) and a pink (red), why not some kind of turquoise (blue), just to round it out. Not a bad idea, but I've reserved the cooler colours for my Infractor squads - and indeed, the one squad I've done so far was done in blue. So my third noise marine squad will need to be in a warm colour. And @Firedrake Cordova, those might work - ostensibly, the pink one was "red" (pink undercoat with a red wash), but I could try the effect again with a different pink as the base colour to maybe get a redder overall colour. Anyway, when the time comes I'll play around with some options to see what I like best. Dr_Ruminahui
I've gone with yellow and am painting them there. It may be too close to my orange, but it will have to do for now. Since I last posted, I've finished my second squad of infractors, this one a 5 man. Particularly like how the champion's head turned out - its from one of the forgeworld space marine head collections. And as an added bonus, they didn't suffer from "new model syndrome" in my first (and only) game with them so far. Also painted up a thunderhammer chaos lord that is kitbashed from the EC exalted lord kit - already had one of that model in my EC, and didn't want to double up, so am using him for my codex: chaos space marine army instead. Pretty happy with how he turned out as well. Dr_Ruminahui
Thanks, @W.A.Rorie. Finished the last of my noise marines. Pretty happy with them, though the yellow accent colour isn't as effective as the colours I used on my other 2 squads. Firedrake Cordova
That's a lot of heretical music It looks like they came out well. As you say, the markings on the cloaks isn't as obvious as on the others - I think something closer to Averland Sunset might have made them a bit more prominent..? Brother Christopher
It's nice to see more of your progress with the more regular stuff. The capes are well worth the work - they're great. Also, these Marines look deadly. I don't know anything about the current rules but the minis look like they're packing a lot of sonic firepower. Dr_Ruminahui
Thanks, @Firedrake Cordova & @Brother Christopher. FC: I'm alright with the contrast, I just wish it was more florecent and with better contrast between the highs and lows (so, in the folds, etc). That said, I'm not at a point where I think I should redo them. BC: They are pretty shooty, but rather short ranged (18"). The bulk of the weapons are essentially heavy bolters (with ignore cover rather than sustained 1) while the longer guns are essentially one of the few higher S (they are S 10) guns in the army. Given that outside the defiler or land raider they are the only real shooting unit EC has, at least a pair of them make it into most lists, though they are/were less necessary in the pro-defiler meta. Anyway, I'm glad they look the part. Antarius
You're really getting a lot done, looks great! I gotta say, I actually sort of prefer the yellow symbold on the cloaks. I know it's not as bright and garish as you Slaaneshi people like, but it gels well with the white, gold and purple Dr_Ruminahui 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370363-dr-ruminahuis-mostly-slaaneshi-stuff/page/5/#findComment-6181797 Share on other sites
kabaakaba
I like yellow cloacks. They really fit those "musicians". In closeup they very bright. But on family photo a bit too light because of contrasts. IMHO you need to add some very light grey wash/glaze on your white alongside yellow marks to make yellow shine more. Oooor just don't shoot them together. Dr_Ruminahui
Good points, @kabaakaba - for the sake of laziness, I think I'll probably go with the "don't photograph them together" route. Eventually, I may come up with a darker yellow and shade the yellow symbols (as that's my main problem with them, they look flat even on the curves of the cloak) but that's a problem for future me. Finished my GW Lord Kakaphonist model: I'm relatively happy with his point job even if the photos aren't the best - its a remarkably difficult model to photograph well. Eventually his armour will get some highlighting, when I figure out how I want to do that - its another decision I'm kicking down the road. IMHO. Your problem here is that you painting yellow with yellow and white with white. Not like I suggesting painting white using green(still it's obviously possible) but your cloaks way too bright. And with yellow which second brightest color after white it's impossible to not look flat. Since you trying make it brighter on white cloaks(which impossible). In fact it would looks better if You make cloak grey with little of white on outermost parts. Dr_Ruminahui
I feel like we are talking past each other somewhat. Yes, I recognize that the yellow doesn't stand out strongly against the white, and that it would do better against a different colour or if outlined by a different colour. That said, that isn't something that really bothers me. If it did bother me, I might outline it as doing the cloaks in a different colour isn't really an option as I want them to be consistent with all my other cloaks, which are white. Rather, I would like the folds in the yellow portions of the cloak to be darker. At some point I may do that. kabaakaba 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/370363-dr-ruminahuis-mostly-slaaneshi-stuff/page/5/#findComment-6182744 Share on other sites

space wolf
Love the wings on that Demon Prince! Just the right kind of disturbingly real. Your marines are looking top notch! The cloak paint really brings them to another level. You mentioned figuring out how to highlight magenta: have you considered edge or volumetrically highlighting with white (if volumetrically, you'll need more of a white gradient) then painting over the white with a florescent purple/pink? That would really be something!
