Looks like it, yeah. Here's hoping it went to either Haley or Wraight; Wraight could well use it to fix The Buried Dagger further, while Haley could do more to tie Heresy-era Mortarion to Era Indomitus (and he wrote Grandfather's Gift years ago, too). Just no Swallow, please, not when he's already sunk the character arc in TBD.

The illustrated edition of Xenos is tempting, though I'm less tempted if it's the only one they'll do in the series.

I'm the same. Not knowing whether they are going to do the next two (I don't expect it) is putting me off. But on the other hand, if they do and I don't get the first one now, I won't be buying it from scalpers. Decisions, decisions.

This, this, and a thousand times this.

Chris Wraight does a fantastic job with Mortarion in White Scars, Path of Heaven and Warhawk. Chris Wraight is my favourite Primarchs author: Dorn, Magnus, Khan, Mortarion, are all deep characters that feel like Primarchs in his work.

Guy Haley's not bad either with his HH short and 40k work.

I don't know if anyone here anticipates or even wants the book or not, but does anybody think that a Horus Heresy Limited Edition book on the character of Calas Typhon who became Typhus would be a great future release? I am aware that this ventures into speculation and is not part of official "upcoming" books, however, I would love if Typhus ever got a single book on his alien overlord origins which may reveal that the powers of Nurgle and the warp are alien in origin and connected to a rare species i.e. the overlords, similar to the fact that the Laer whom Fulgrim defeated were also alien beings who worshipped a Chaos deity, so maybe Chaos is of alien/Xenos origin and this angle could be explored in future books.

I would adore a Horus heresy Typhus book which discusses his secret psychic powers and his hidden origins, as well as his activities with the other psykers in the Death Guard legion whom he kept a secret from Mortarion and let us not forget if we ever get a chance to read how Erebus influenced Typhus in the warrior lodge meetings about becoming a chaos worshipper, that would be sweet.

Again, in the hands of Chris Wraight, this would be a fantastic read.

The work he did in seeding a sensible throughline between the guff that had been written about Typhus & Mortarion earlier in the HH series is frankly astonishing, given what he had to work with.

I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and get it. My copy of the Eisenhorn Omnibus is old and beaten half to death and I've become a sucker for illustrated editions lately. If it turns out that the rest of the trilogy doesn't get the same treatment, maybe I'll just sell this one off (I wouldn't be a jerk and charge an arm and a leg for it though).

Had the decision made easier for me; missed the Sigismund LE so had some cash spare to pick up Xenos (which i was going to pass on).  Now I’m sweating that they do 2 and 3 in the same format as well.

Damn, I missed out on the space marine anthology, distracted doing diy!

Interesting if it’s Mortarian next, I had assumed they would alternate loyalists with traitors.

GW stores will definitely have some copy’s of the space marine anthology this weekend

Completely forgot BL is doing the five short stories Celebration this week:

The Interrogator by Richard Strachan (AoS, Richard is one of the best current AoS writers, excited for this one)
The Only Good Ork by Sandy Mitchell (40K, another Cain story, hopefully another full novel is coming soon)
Tower of Empty Mirrors by John French (AoS, second French's AoS short story, enjoyed the first one, would like him to do a full AoS novel)
Fool's Ruin by Mike brooks (40K, Huron's short story)
Krenkha Goronga by Guy Haley (AoS, Kharadron)

Interesting if it’s Mortarian next, I had assumed they would alternate loyalists with traitors.

Traditionally they had alternated by year, even when the release rate slowed down:

2016 - Guilliman + Russ

2017 - Magnus + Perturabo + Lorgar + Fulgrim

2018 - Ferrus Manus + Jaghatai Khan + Vulkan + Corax

2019 - Angron + Curze

2020 - Lion

2021 - Alpharius

If Mortarion does indeed come in 2022, it would break that trend. Not that it's something I'm ever aware of BL specifically stating was a thing, just an interesting little bit of trivia.

I’d forgotten (or missed!) this too. I’m guessing these will differ from the free anthology available with purchases?

The anthology is exclusively old material that's been available before, either as eshorts or as parts of previous anthologies. Not a single new story as far as I can tell - and even the ads in it don't make much sense; for example, the Warhammer Crime short from No Good Men is a prequel to Haley's novel Flesh & Steel - but the ad points to Wraight's Bloodlines as your logical next read. Dumb, to say the least.

Thanks DC - I've now found the book listing (having forgotten to look before!). Interesting, one of the tales (W&TR) was in the Advent Collection this year - the Serpent's Dance was in last year's Advent with the Shaper of Scars. The Reaper's Gift appeared in The Accursed (which I've not yet read) - and No Use for Good Men appears in No Good Men.

Some very good tales in there from memory - and now I've worked out that they're different from the eShorts series, I'm tempted!

Looks like Mortarion is indeed up next for the Primarchs series.

Having only recently taken command of the Death Guard, Mortarion is sent to pacify the Galaspar System, whose leaders greedily enrich themselves at the expense of their population. The response is so swift and brutal that even the Imperium baulks at the carnage, although Mortarion shows no sign of remorse.

By David Annandale. For me, he isn't among the most consistent of the Heresy authors (and his two Primarchs books have been among the weaker ones), but he has had some quality output, so here's hoping.

My guesses for the remaining subtitles:

Sanguinius: The Angel of Baal
Rogal Dorn: The Blade of the Emperor
Horus: The Breaker of Tyrants

Edited by Tymell

Hmm, an interesting pick.

On one hand, Annandale's delivered two of the worst entries into this series, and hasn't exactly delivered a winner to balance things out.

On the other, the premise is exactly what Mortarion needs - we're finally getting the focus on the "man of the people" aspect that's only ever been a footnote or afterthought throughout the Heresy. Fingers crossed for character work first and fightan second.

Obviously sad it's not Wraight but you can't win em all.

Annandale seems especially focused on class conflict in his recent works. A Dynasty of Monsters and Deacon of Wounds emphasized the divide between rich and poor as well. It’s a very welcome theme.

Nnnooooooo not Annandale. They really must be struggling to get authors to write this series. It’s ground to a halt for years and now we get an author who has written absolutely terrible books in this series getting another book. This series has been so hit and miss, it was supposed to be finished years ago. A lot of them add absolutely nothing to the primarchs personality, depth or character. Mostly the Guilliman and Vulkan books by David Annandale

Curious.  WarCom don’t usually give too big a lead in time between announcement and delivery, but the new Primarchs book isn’t listed on the BL forthcoming books list, which covers releases up to the end of April.  So May at the earliest?

Also, I see the regular edition of Sigismund is up for April release.  Was this always the case or did I miss it the last time I checked?

Disappointed that Annandale got Mortarion. The story will be related to his previous HH Primarchs short, also set on Galaspar, which underwhelmed me a couple of years ago:

Scions of the Emperor - Horus Heresy Primarchs series

The Verdict of the Scythe - David Annandale. A wasted chance to show Mortarion during a Crusade compliance. Morty doesn't like psykers so kills everyone. No real characterisation here.

Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh! is out on March 12, with audiobook.

Best news ever! Thanks for the update! This exactly what I have been waiting for.

After the Twice Dead king and Severed, I'm hungry for more Crowley.
