Well that’s a pain.  The Shipping issues continue here in Oz with the Huron novel and new edition Infantry primer not coming up for release this morning.  Joins a bevy of delays and non-releases of models, codexes and novels this year.

Cool. BL is continuing its AoS audio backlog but also doing classics like Khârn: Eater of Worlds in audio (as expected/hoped) and The Triumph of Saint Katherine is gonna be out in two weeks, too.

So another three audiobooks that weekend. I wonder how much of this is still down to covid backlogs, and how the speed will slow down after that runs out, or if they'll keep up the high production rate, and will soon be able to tackle even more classics.

Worth noting we've got some new books on the way, as revealed on the Heresy stream today!

Update on Warhammer Community includes:

  • Lupercal’s War (anthology of existing shorts)
  • Cthonia’s Reckoning (anthology of new stories!)
  • Primarchs series - Rogal Dorn: The Emperor’s Crusader - by Gav Thorpe

Exciting!

I'm curious whether Lupercal's War will collect any of the shorts currently absent from the main print series.

I wondered that too! As a marketed starting point, perhaps it may have one or two, but perhaps it might also cover some of the more common ones? (Perhaps some of those shorts given away with the new website?)

Presumably because it’s a move away from the numbered series into the long-awaited Heresy as a setting books; perfect opportunity to revamp and rebrand, and, most importantly, means that people (eg me) can stop buying physical copies to maintain a ‘complete’ collection.

Gav for Dorn?????? O.O

I'd never imagined him to take on Royal. That's the first time or is it?

Was hoping for French, imho.

Lorgar was very good, though. Same with Luther, so I don't condemn it right away.

We had some beautiful world building with those two and I'm hoping for some Inwit stuff.

He did the "Chamber at the End of Memory" short from the Scions of the Emperor collection. Dorn also appeared in The First Wall of course.

EDIT: My mistake.

That was Swallow, non?

Anyway, glad to see the sundry shorts stories being collected. Didn't expect Thorpe for Dorn, but if he channels Luther and Lorgar again I'm game.

Sorry, you're right, I was mis-reading from the Conqueror's Truth short in there.

Surprisingly I think I’m more excited for the new AOS books than these at the moment.

Was hoping for Abnett or French for Rogal’s primarch novel. Thorpe just doesn’t move the needle for me, though I’m sure he’ll do a competent job.

Curious about Cthonia’s Reckoning. Far as I recall we really haven’t spent much time on the planet, especially post Istvaan.

Edit: anyone else notice the ebook of the Triumph of St. Katherine isn’t available on the BL site? It was supposed to be put up for preorder today. First time that’s happened in a while. Same thing occurred with Wild Rider a few years ago.

No, I believe just the odd classic with the Legion Primer. Everyone may have got the same one, even?

I'm on board with Gav getting Rogal Dorn. I liked the premise that the Primarchs series was a chance for other authors to put a spin on characters that others had defined. I wish wish wish someone other than Graham McNeill got Magnus. His story was so dull added nothing. Chris Wraight and David Guymer have both depicted the XV Legion well elsewhere in the Heresy.

Lorgar is superb. One of the best of the series. So if Gav brings his A-game, then I'm in for a treat.

If Lupercal's War collects uncollected HH shorts then I hope there are enough to make it worth buying, but I'm guessing it's a selection of HH anthology shorts. Great for newbies.

Admittedly I’m a long running fan of Gavs books, from his eldar fiction, dark angels and the outstanding Luther and Lorgar he is a superbly capable writer. I’ve loved his books for years, he’s a David Gemmell award winner.

I’m delighted Gav has got Dorn, this series has been very hit and miss. David Annandale has produced several absolutely terrible books and there have several other ones that hardly are worth a mention. I’ve never understood the hatred of Gavs writing. If you cut him open he would bleed little plastic space men.

Gav for Dorn could be a hit or miss situation. Luther's novel was ok IMO and Lorgar's was good too, but The First Wall was pretty meh. I definitely was hoping for French or Abnett, I think they are the ones who truly understand Rogal Dorn, especially Abnett's work with Dorn in Saturnine ("My deeds are my words", "I'm just going to kill you").

But anyways, I'm more dissapointed with the cover. I'm a fan of Mikhail Savier artwork, and so far his covers for the other primarchs have been awesome, this one just seems uninspired, Dorn doesn't even look like himself except for the armor and chainsword, that face and hair... And that's weird, given that Savier did a perfect Rogal Dorn illustration for The First Wall IIRC, that one on the war room with Sanguinius, Jaghatai and Malcador.

Underrated post. Have thought about this for a long time

How long has guy been writing for BL? It’s not that long I don’t think. I think going on the books I have of his 2014/15. But he really didn’t get so prolific until 17/18. If he’s been at it 7.5 years that’s an average of 170k per year. I would say his tax bill has exploded in the last 4 anyway!

Great achievement for a hard working and talented author.
