My Word Bearer Kill Team was feeling unloved (and unfinished) so I repainted the base rims black. Thought I'd use the pesky VGC (gloss) black as they will be varnished matte at the end. They still need a few details (and the odd arm or head).

The FoL Assault Intercessor squad had some leather and metallic highlights, seals re-established, my standard dark earth basing mixture and some gloss work ahead of decals.

The Assault Sergeant needs a plasma glow as well as a head.

The FoL will gain a Scout Kill Team next, I think.

Looking good. To be honest, I'm not sure which guys are better ;) And as a loyalist I must stay: this pains me. I think that the variety of bits of armour on the Chaos lads, as well as the greatly different loadouts really helps.

But the colour scheme for the Primaris came together nicely.

I got carried away at lunchtime yesterday. Started something without planning it properly. Here's where I ended up today

I acquired this old Chaos Terminator without a head or trophy racks. Whilst I'm not a Night Lords fan, I thought this one deserved to be.

My second proper attempt at greenstuff after my Legion B&C mini-me (way back in this thread) and I'm quite pleased with some elements. As ever, I have rushed it and there are a few mistakes as a result. Hopefully they won't show too much after some paint.

The Fists of Light squad are just about compete! Sarge has a head

Don't look too closely at the eyes! Looks fine to my dodgy old eyes when held in the hand!

Purity seals got some Bad Moon Yellow to brighten them.

I've also finished off a couple of missing pieces from the Word Bearer Legionnaires - aspiring champion head and shrieve talon arm

That just leaves a shoulder pad and magazine for the rotor cannon.

Didn't stop them facing off against the Kroot in a Kill Team Lite ITD battle. Finished with a face off between the Aspiring Champion and the Long Sight - WB won.

I meant to paint more yesterday but junior wanted to build his ETB Assault Intercessors so I trimmed the pieces as he freed them from their sprue and then we started a little 9e intro battle against his Necrons.

I've had a short enforced break from the hobby and was getting a bit twitchy. Back now and time to start on the second Iron Gauntlet challenge - unit painting.

I had started on the Assault Marines before the IG challenge was announced so they couldn't count towards it.

Over in the Liber forum I have some background to the FoL in an Imperial Armour style document.

For the second challenge, a battleline unit is required for the basic challenge. I have Scouts to paint. The second level is a 'combat patrol' of a battleline unit, another unit and a character. So I'll give that a go

Here we have five Heavy Intercessors, the new Kill Team Scouts and a Primaris Apothecary.

Lots of trimming and gluing begins

A lunchtime priming session finished of everything ready for base coats.

Well, newly everything. I have managed to misplaced three Scouts so I've had to order another box and I've not started to assemble the Apothecary.

I'm undecided on the Scouts @firestorm40k. I found the arms and pads a bit fiddly compared with the chunky Gravis marines. Hopefully they'll look OK when finished.

Guess what...I found the missing Scouts. They were on a covert mission under some detritus on the edge of the table. Too late to cancel my order of another box...oops.

Thanks @Brother Christopher, I've started off with the VMC German Grey I use for the marine undersuits on the fabric for the Scouts. I extended it to the interior of the cloak and then in a moment of madness, put it on the exterior as well. The KT rules have the sniper with one of those 'active camo' cloaks. I guess they could be grey when inactive or I could get brave and try something...

I'm not sure whether the German Grey is the right colour given the larger area, I guess we'll see when I get the other colours down.

Having got the grey basecoated yesterday, I decided to try a test model for the Scouts this lunchtime.

This Tracker is the closest I have to an assembled model. I have used the Sniper body / legs as ai felt this model needed a little more personality. I see him scouting ahead with a camo cloak as forward recon for the Kill Team, reporting back on enemy movements to the Sergeant.

A shame he'll have the same essential pose as the Sniper but I need the models completed for the challenge - no time to attempt sculpting a cloak!

I'm quite pleased with the German Grey, I can layer / highlight it with Dark Sea Greyband the green will brighten significantly with the next layers (based on experience with the previous team).

Progress. Two basecoat layers of green on the Heavy Intercessors. Not sure how neat they are as they were done without magnification!

Not shown are one green layer on all arms and the Scouts and gunmetal on the arms.

Still haven't assembled the Apothecary . I need a character to round out my vow.

EDIT: additional material as I'm feeling a bit giddy. Feels like something has clicked - I've been enjoying the models and the scheme the most since I got back into the hobby.

It might be that I'm more organised in my approach or comfortable with my choices.

It certainly helps that I am looking forward to the end result and not comparing them to box art or examples I've seen on the internet.

This seems like a really nice feeling. I think that you're feeling the best possible thing about the hobby - enjoyment of what you do and what you have. I hope this feeling sticks for a long time.

Offering an outside perspective, I think that the feeling is also well-justified. Your paint scheme, as well as the collection as a whole, are great. You also seem to have good control over this project which is commendable.
