[DH1e] The Damocles Contingency (OOC)

Sure,

Spoiler

There is a central corridor with the rooms splitting off into their own self-contained and defined areas. The first intersection is 30m from the door to the rotunda you have just left. The construction is indeed ferrocrete, bare walls, so they're mainly just grey and dull, but also stark, no ornamentation, form follows function. You should certainly consider it a living space, communal like a barracks, or of course a prison facility, most if not all of you will be used to either.

The corridor itself is 2m/6 feet wide.

The refectory and bunk room doors open to the middle of the room.

Lighting is good, gentle enough to see well by, not overpowering lumens from striplights. Ceiling in the 'hallway' is 3m/9 feet, with the rooms being uniformly constructed of 30m square in area, and the ceilings moved to 4m/12 feet. The ceiling of the hall is serviced by one row of lumen bulbs, with the rooms being serviced by three rows set into a 3x3 matrix.

The bunk room carries 12 single-person bunks, arrayed neatly into three ranks of 4, which from the door of the room, present 4 left, 4 right and 4 ahead. Each bunk has a stiff, IG issue mattress, and two green army blankets, with one pillow. (Yes you can borrow from the unoccupied bunks). There is one footlocker (also painted green) at the end of each bunk, and one plasteel locker, laminated in white ceramic paint against the wall, adjacent to the headboard of each bed. All beds face feet first to the door.

There is no carpeting, just smooth, semi-polished ferrocrete floor in darker tone of grey/black.

The Refectory has a buffet style counter with different pans in a bain-marie, which carry the various nutrient pastes. The bread is pre-sliced. There are three long tables with affixed bench seats, which are painted red, with the table tops being covered in grey, non-slip texture. The floor here is tiled in the same non-slip, but easily washable material.

The briefing room and infirmary form the next junction down, by some 10m, which means their doors open in the corner of the room. The briefing room has several, individual "cinema" style seats which are upholstered, with foldable arms and small desks for holotablets, dataslates and the like. There is a hololithic projector towards the front, and the seating is tiered, with 20 seats in two rows of 7 and one row (the back, nearest the door) of 6.

The infirmary is lit very well, as befits a medical station, and the floor is partially tiled with ceramics. At the back of the room is a small ablutions block, including a shower. The door to this is located in the far corner in relation to the door to enter the room. On the opposite wall there is an alcove which is a recessed bay the same height as the room, dropping back into a space large enough for a small pedestal altar with votive candles, and a carved, wooden pew, complete with fixed kneeler. It is upholstered in red leather.

At the end of the habitation corridor, and directly opposite the door from the rotunda, (and 60m direct travel) lies a large door, which is made of unpainted, smooth plasteel. This door is served by a panel like those you have seen before, but the panel is inactive.

Hope this helps. I won't be going into detail like this for other areas in the hive (expect more impressions there), but this is your "big brother house" so to speak, so you might as well get to know it backwards. Some of the distances may be a little off, since I wrote this mainly on the fly, so don't squeeze my shoes for it, eh?

Bonus points for the use of "gaol" btw:yes:

NECRO - oh there's no going through with anything (untoward) and there was never meant to be.

I know you will be a gentleman and a scholar, and understand I am skimming the knuckle as near as I dare without violating family friendly forum rules, and I know you have been doing the same.

Once the game starts properly, this will vanish. (There will be the possibility of an arc tie-in later, perhaps).

Besides, don't you have a briefing to get to?

Nah man, there was no need to worry - for the sake of the comfort of the other players it was only ever going to get as close as it did.

It's hard to levy tension on certain characters at this particular juncture, but there must be conflict, because that is what drives narrative. There has been a touch of light friction between the characters in the hab block.

For Stimms/Stitches it's having the mask pierced, for Reynard it's about how much I can stop from going into his pockets, and Nicios doesn't want to be bored.

Bardas has a personal quest, Restal has an inner voice, Falk is a man of duty without a straight line. Hooks, hooks, hooks.

Yours, on the surface, is mixed roast blend of temptation, and denial.

Dark Heresy is not just about the shadows without...

Lot of people lining up to kill the inquisitor.

"...when we deployed a strike team, we received an ultimatum - we must publicly execute Lord Inquisitor Garrad Locke, within fourteen Solar days."

Vigilance may want to clear up if the tau gave the ultimatum of "kill the inquisitor" or not, as there may be some shotgun related mishaps from skipping over some potentially key step between "we sent people to the tau" and "lets kill the lord inquisitor"

@A.T. I read all of that preamble regarding the Tau (the Enemy Beyond) more as setting the scene and giving us all an OOC explanation of what these mooks were mucking about with. It looks to me more like the order to liquidate all assets has come down from the Inquisition high command following a lab mishap or sabotage by some other outside party (xenos or Chaos cultists or other), and this Lord Inquisitor we're being tasked with eliminating is one of those assets in need of liquidation.

I'll clear up a little bit of it here - Necro mostly has the handle of it, I apologise if I lost anyone, but it was just a bit of set dressing. (It was also a bit disjointed, since my day is all over the place).

Investigation more than liquidation...but you never know..!

There's no need to change any posts, as I'll address it in narrative. The Inquisition cell you're a part of would certainly suspect Tau tomfoolery in this matter, and it would not be a stretch for an Arbitrator to have this leap to his mind as Damocles is on the Gulf, staring at the Tau Empire off in the distance. So the challenges Falk throws up are perfectly valid.

And relate to the "or else" bit of the ultimatum.

I'm working on a post now, but I don't want to info dump you, so I'm balancing how to get it all in.

I will say that Vigilance is pushing buttons a bit, but it will make sense shortly.

I'm assuming the armory that Verdict refers to is beyond the exit of our current base?

Yes, it's through the door at the far end of the hab block.

Am I supposed to be rolling dice to see if Bardas can discern any additional information from the date slate/report?

No, not at all. If there was a test, I would have set the difficulty for you. Feel free to make any observations.
