Ahzek451
Wait, so are some of the rules like "healing" only found in the app? Im curious now, so if someone purchases rhe rulebook, cards, and had associated codex...is that not everything and you still would have to reference the app for some things(not including updates)? Rusted Boltgun
6 hours ago, Doghouse said: From what I have been told the core rulebook is missing about 20 rules referenced in the book. Stuff like Go to ground and Healing were two that were mentioned to me. How true this is I honestly don't know, this is second hand info from people I know who are more invested in 11th. Go to ground has been removed as a strategy and is worked into the Hidden mechanic, if Google's sampling of Vanguard Tactics is to be believed. As for healing, it isn't a core action so isn't in the Core Rules. The rules indicate other actions rules will be found elsewhere, such as mission packs. There is an example of a 'healing' rule on the Painboy datasheet So perhaps data sheets will be where we find rules like this? Core rules seems decent - card decks look pricey if anything. I like having a separate small rule book, I don't think I picked up the big book that much last edition and now it sits filling my shelves alongside the other big edition books. They've done that and cut it back hugely. £15 hardly seems bad. What would you consider reasonable?... I'd consider it reasonable if it actually contained all the rules needed to play 10 hours ago, SvenIronhand said: I think the confusion comes from the PDF GW released missing those things. The PDF is exactly the same as the printed rule book. So things like modifying characteristics, re-rolls, multiple weapon profiles, within/wholly within... and dozens more aren't in there. And I would say a lot of things that actually have to be checked once you know how to play, are the things missing. 5 hours ago, Ahzek451 said: Wait, so are some of the rules like "healing" only found in the app? Yes exactly - you can download the pdf and see everything in green on the right text boxes is something you need to check on the app. That's not entirely correct, some of the highlighted text does have sections to refer to in the .pdf. For example I think starting under full strength is also covered in the main body of the rules. The .pdf released reads like an early copy that hasn't been finished. Most of the 'See Also' elements have the reference number to go to in the rulebook, the highlighted ones don't, suggesting that more text and references are to be added. I wonder what the rule book in the box is like? Rusted Boltgun
@Frogian, does your rulebook contain a section for Regaining Lost Wounds? The .pdf isn't exactly the same as the printed rulebook - it stops at p.88 and doesn't include the index shown in your photo. Weird it directs you to the App for Revived but the rules are in the book! A bit rubbish you need the app to get the full rules.... Probably in the app. On another note, the SM faction pack updates are up. For the most part, they're errata but the new 1DP detachments have been put up, too. For the most part, I'm whelmed with the SW ones — especially the Grey Hunters focused one. Because of the inevitable and relatively constant updates, the book are generally rapidly invalidated too. Since the advent of the card mission packs we've required multiple things to play. Whether it's right or not, it simply is and other companies are no different. SW legion printed stuff is updated frequently which requires using different formats, bolt action requires multiple books if you're playing anything bar the basic scenarios out the main book. A song of ice and fire updates the cards so frequently I've zero idea if what I own is ok to use or not. I understand the frustration but so many companies do the same thing, we can't pretend it's unique to GW. Well that's a whole other point - the most basic way to play (only war, whichever mission card it is now) should also have been in the book. Not sure how 2nd ed is relevant when we've had 8 editions between that one and this one that managed. And the thing with updates is you can choose to ignore them. You can get a rule book with all the rules and just go for it and work out any issues with your opponent where things aren't clear. We used to do that all the time. You can't do that if you don't have all the rules in the first place Edited June 8 by Frogian Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387719-new-warhammer-40000-edition-announced/page/47/#findComment-6174271 Share on other sites

I can't remember the last time I opened either a rulebook or a codex to actually look at the rules. Very easy to just search in the app for what you want, or use the command bunker when in a game for datasheets. With the upcoming change to also have quick access to your opponents rules, the app is going to be even more centralized as the 'main' way to utilize the content.
